Century Media Records Back when Canadian progressive metal legends Voivod started in the early ’80s, cell phones were in their infancy and smart phones were far in the future. 30 years later, Voivod is releasing a smart phone app along with a teaser of their upcoming single ‘Mechanical Mind.’ The band’s 13th studio album ‘Target Earth’ is set to be released Jan. 22, 2013, in North America, marking Voivod’s 30th anniversary. Voivod’s company Iron Gang Factory is joining with Century Media Records to release ‘Target Earth.’ “Our goal has been to find a partner for Iron Gang Factory to help get new Voivod music to the world and Century Media, we are proud to say, is the right company to do so globally,” the band said. “We can’t wait to release, tour, and promote ‘Target Earth.’” Voivod’s current lineup includes vocalist Dennis ‘Snake’ Belanger, bassist Jean-Yves ‘Blacky’ Theriault, drummer Michel ‘Away’ Langevin and guitarist Daniel ‘Chewy’ Mongrain. Mongrain joined the band after the death of guitarist Denis ‘Piggy’ D’Amour. It will be the first time since 1991′s ‘Angel Rat’ that Snake, Blacky and Away will appear on a studio album together. ‘Mechanical Mind’ will be released as a digital single and 7″ vinyl on Oct. 9. The vinyl has the Voivod skull etching by Away (who is also an artist) as the b-side. The free Voivod mobile app gives fans access to the band’s songs, music videos, live interviews, news, upcoming live events and more. It is available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry. Voivod will kick off a European Tour in the U.K. on Oct. 3. The trek will take them through several countries, wrapping up in Helsinki, Finland, on Oct. 31. Each month there will be a new double-sided single that’s available in both digital and 7-inch vinyl formats. The vinyl will be available at most independent music retailers in countries worldwide. The first offering comes Oct. 30, as the track ‘Boy Division’ will front the A-side, while ‘Tomorrow’s Money’ is the B-side. September 18th, 2012 Metalkult Facebook: Salome Kat Katz is the screaming banshee of Massachusetts grind mavens Agoraphobic Nosebleed. After being welcomed into the band, she has since provided vocals for various splits, EPs and their 2009 full-length masterpiece ‘Agorapocalypse.’ As one of three Agoraphobic Nosebleed vocalists, Katz brings a more sharp and sonically piercing scream to the band, delivering an entirely new character into ANb’s music, which is both devastating and captivating. Katz is also known for her work with Virginian doom metal band Salome. The three-piece formed in 2006, gaining a significant following in the metal underground for their powerful and patient sound, mixed with the high-shrieks and low gutturals of Katz. Unfortunately, Salome split up in 2011, shortly after releasing the critically acclaimed full-length ‘Terminal.’ Still active with Agoraphobic Nosebleed and having contributed to the music of Pig Destroyer , including their upcoming full-length, ‘Book Burner,’ Katz is truly one of metal’s finest vocalists, and deserves the upmost respect as a talent and pioneer for female metal musicians. September 18th, 2012 Metalkult The best Soundgarden songs are culled from the band's lengthy and rich history, as they formed all the way back in 1984 and achieved an incredible measure of commercial success during the grunge heyday in the 1990s. The combination of gnarly riffage, pulsating rhythmic dexterity and Chris Cornell's soaring, soulful vocals set them apart from the hard rock pack and elevated them above “just another band capitalizing on the grunge thing” status.
