Jason Newsted Debuts ‘Soldierhead’ Single, Offers Snippets of ‘Metal’ EP Tracks

NewstedHeavyMetal.com Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted is back rocking again and fans are getting the first taste of his new self-titled band with the just-released single ‘Soldierhead.’ The song comes from the four-track release, ‘ Metal ,’ due Jan. 8 via iTunes. Newsted shot a video for the song over the week that’s expected to debut shortly, but in the interim fans can check out ‘Soldierhead’ in the player below. The hard-driving track finds the bassist exploring his metal roots and delivering the type of head banging song that most fans would hope for. The bassist steps up to the mic on the ‘Metal’ EP and does an admirable job, but it’s the bass breakdown in ‘Soldierhead’ that stands out and makes it uniquely Newsted. In addition to ‘Soldierhead,’ fans can keep an ear out for ‘Godsnake,’ ‘King of the Underdogs’ and ‘Skyscraper,’ the three other songs that make up the ‘Metal’ EP. Though full versions of the tracks have yet to hit the Internet, song snippets can be heard at iTunes, where the disc is currently available for pre-order. ‘Godsnake’ is more a chugging track, while ‘King of the Underdogs’ finds the band rocking with reckless abandon and ‘Skyscraper’ is more of a straight-up, attitude-filled rocker. To hear the song snippets or to pre-order the ‘Metal’ EP, click here . Newsted has not announced any tour dates as of yet, but it is likely he’ll play some shows as some point. 90-Year-Old Actor Christopher Lee Releases Heavy Metal Versions of Classic Christmas Songs

Charlemange Productions Love metal? Dig Christmas? Then let legendary actor Christopher Lee entertain you with heavy metal versions of classic Christmas songs. The 90-year-old Lee is famous for his roles in ’Dracula’ and ‘Lord of the Rings,’ among countless other films. He has been crafting his voice for many years, having famously lent his pipes to the soundtrack for horror flick ‘The Wicker Man,’ released in 1973. Although Lee is a classically trained singer, the ‘Dracula’ icon released his first metal album, ‘Charlemange: By the Sword and the Cross,’ in 2010, receiving Metal Hammer’s Spirit of Metal award at their 2010 Golden Gods ceremony. Lee’s ‘Charlemange’ sequel, ‘The Omens of Death,’ is expected to see a 2013 release. “I was first introduced to metal when I sang with a [band] called Rhapsody,” Lee tells BBC Radio. “But what I sang was not heavy metal; I sang with a tenor. Then I worked with Manowar as a narrator, I think it was in Germany, and again, that was not me singing metal. I became rather fascinated by this, ’cause in terms of history of music, it’s fairly recent, really. And if it’s properly done and you can understand the story and you can understand what the people are singing and you have the right bands and the right singers, I think it’s rather exciting.” Christopher Lee’s surprisingly crushing renditions of ‘The Little Drummer Boy’ and ‘Silent Night’ are now available to purchase via iTunes and Amazon . Check out a preview of both tracks in the player below. Ruinside Bassist Lauri Aitonurmi Dies in Car Crash

Ruinside: Official Website Finnish metallers Ruinside are currently mourning the death of their bassist Lauri Aitonurmi, who passed away after a car accident on Dec. 14. While he was most recently known for his work with Ruinside, who released their full-length debut, ‘The Hunt,’ in October of this year, Aitonurmi was a musician from the age of 11. After four years of playing the keyboard, Aitonurmi picked up a bass at age 15, maintaining the instrument as his primary tool until his passing. Aitonurmi was also involved with the bands OTW, Necropolis Depths, Dragonwing and GARM before joining Ruinside, naming Cannibal Corpse , Arch Enemy and Dream Theater amongst his influences. Ruinside posted the following statement to memorialize the death of their beloved bassist: Our beloved friend and bassist Lauri Aitonurmi passed away on December 14th 2012 in a car accident. We will remember him as a very bright person who always shared good spirit around him. Ruinside wants to wish strength and hope for Lauri’s family, his wife and little boy. Lauri will live in our hearts and in our music. Rest in peace, friend. We’d like to send our thoughts and best wishes to the family, friends and bandmates of Lauri Aitonurmi. Deuce Delivers Naughty Holiday Cards

Five Seven Music Happy holidays! It’s a sentiment expressed by many this season, but not quite in the way that Deuce is doing it. The former Hollywood Undead member-turned-solo artist is serving up several digital holiday cards branded with his own sense of humor to them. As seen in the first card above, Deuce and his lovely lady pose for a “family photo” on the couch, with the caption “Yo, I don’t know what Yuletide means, but happy it!” Other digital holiday cards currently available (as seen below) include a Godzilla-like Deuce terrorizing a picturesque town decorated for the holidays by stepping on it and exclaiming in the caption, “Take that, you tiny little Xmas bitches!” The third card features a scantily clad lady with her arms around Deuce as he holds a strategically placed gift-wrapped box with the caption, “Guess what I got you …” It’s clear from the cards that Deuce definitely falls on Santa’s “naughty” list, but still, he’s in the giving spirit by sharing these digital cards and letting fans use them as they wish. The thoughtful rocker did something similar earlier this year by providing his own branded Valentine’s Day cards. You can check them out here . For more on Deuce, visit his Facebook page here . Sepultura Release Signature Brand of Beer

Sepultura Beer Thrash legends Sepultura  have unveiled their own line of beer. Labeled with the band’s signature spiked ‘S’ logo, the brew is striving to hit your sense of taste with a creation as full-bodied as Sepultura’s music. The Sepultura Weizen beer is a wheat-based brew, which can come in an incredibly awesome package resembling a Marshall amp. Unfortunately, we haven’t gotten our hands on the beer yet, but it has been said that Sepultura’s drink possesses “turbidity caused by natural yeast in suspension” and the “aroma and flavors of banana and clove from a special strain of yeast that produces the chemicals that lead to these perceptions.” Alcoholic beverages released by bands seems like they might one day surpass the concert t-shirt in must-have items. Signature beers  and wines have recently been released by bands such as AC/DC , Clutch and Motorhead . There’s no word if Sepultura’s beer will see a major release or will make it to the U.S., but we’ll be saving space in the office fridge for just the occasion. A video documenting the beer is posted below (in Portugese): Watch a Video Piece on Sepultura’s New Beer [in Portugese] [button href=”http://loudwire.com/sepultura-arise-banned-music-videos/” title=”Sepultura – Banned Music Videos” align=”center”]
