Brian ‘Head’ Welch Streams Love and Death Album, Joins Korn for More European Dates

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Guitarist Brian ‘Head’ Welch is keeping busy with both his current and former bands. His current group Love and Death return next week with the new album, ‘Between Here & Lost,’ but fans can check the disc out early via a preview stream. Plus, it appears Welch is expanding his temporary reunion with  Korn to include their full run of European dates. As for Love and Death, fans can currently take a listen to the new album at Billboard’s website ahead of its release. The disc has already spawned the singles ‘ The Abandoning ‘ and ‘ I W8 4 U ,’ but the full effort can be heard by clicking the link here . Welch says of the new effort, “It’s night and day in every way — the clarity, the low end, the guitar tones, the drums. My first record, it took massive, massive time in the mixing process to get it to sound as good as it does. But this one sounded like a record on the rough mixes.” As for Korn, it was confirmed in November that Welch would join the group for their gigs at Rock Am Ring and Rock Im Park in Germany. Now, singer Jonathan Davis also reveals that Welch will stick around for the UK’s Download fest and other European dates. Davis writes: Download has always held a special spot in Korn’s heart. I’ll never forget the year the fans almost tore the tent down on top of the second stage! This year we have Brian “Head” Welch back with us for our European dates – could it get any better? We are looking forward to it! – JD Welch had previously stated that he feels now is the right time to reunite with Korn, and that he’s looking forward to spending time and playing again with his former bandmates. Ozzy Osbourne Suffers Injuries in House Fire

Larry Busacca, Getty Images A freak fire in the home of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne early this morning (Jan. 17) has left metal music’s ‘Prince of Darkness’ with singed hair, no eyebrows, minor burns to his face and a setback to an existing hand injury. Firefighters were called to the Osbournes’ Beverly Hills home at around 4:45 AM this morning to extinguish a fire caused by a candle which had not been blown out before the husband and wife retired to bed. The candle was housed in a glass vase that reportedly exploded, causing a small fire in the Osbourne’s living room. Sharon and Ozzy, who had undergone hand surgery the day before, attempted to put out the flames, but their efforts resulted in minor injuries to the  Black Sabbath vocalist. Ozzy attempted to put out the fire with his hand still in the cast from his surgery as Sharon got some water and unintentionally caused the oily fire to spread as she splashed the flames. The resulting blast of fire burned Ozzy’s long hair up to his ears, seared off his eyebrows and left his cheeks skinned. Luckily, Sharon and the Osbourne’s many pets suffered no injuries. Sharon described the incident with intricate detail on her show ‘The Talk’ today [via  Contact Music ]: At five o’ clock (in the morning), I heard a noise like metal had fallen. I thought it was my housekeeper coming in and she had dropped her keys on the tiles, that’s what it sounded like, so I didn’t pay any attention. A few minutes later, my eyes are stinging and my throat’s closing up, (I thought), ‘Something’s weird smelling in here’. Then my dog started to bark. I go downstairs and the whole living room (was on fire). The candle had burst and the cracking sound was the glass and the candle exploding… My husband had an operation on his hand yesterday so he’s in a complete cast… He comes down and goes, ‘Oh, the fire, the fire!’ (and tries to put it out) with his hand in the cast. Then he opens the French doors and I go into the kitchen and throw water on it and it erupted… Ozzy’s front of his hair from (his ear down is), gone! His eyebrows (are gone)… he’s got like, skinned cheeks. We are, like, two idiots, it was like The Three Stooges… Everything you are not meant to do – go to bed with candles alight, open the doors and put water on – we did it all. They (the firemen) come up, they give us a lecture, and Ozzy’s like, ‘She’s been doing this to me for 32 years! You tell her, you tell her, no more candles!’ I apologize to my husband because he put himself out. He made his hand worse, it started to bleed, the whole nine yards, and I’m sorry and I love you and I will never light a candle again… I want to thank the firemen from Beverly Hills Fire Station because you are magnificent there and I want to say to everyone out there, please, please check your candles before you go to bed. We’re glad to hear Ozzy escaped with only minor injuries. As it stands, 2013 is shaping up to be big year for the metal legend, as Black Sabbath have just announced that they will release their long-awaited new album, ’13,’ in June. P.O.D. to Perform During Halftime of NFC Championship Game in Atlanta

Payableondeath.com P.O.D. may be homers for the San Diego Chargers, but with their team out of the playoff picture, they’ll travel to Atlanta this weekend to serve up some hard-hitting rock for those in attendance at the NFC Championship game. The rockers have been chosen as the halftime performers at the event, in part, due to the popularity of one of their tracks during Falcons football games. Roddy White, the director of event marketing for the Atlanta Falcons (not related to the wide receiver of the same name), told San Diego’s NBC affiliate , “This is kind of a neat thing. Since 2002, when I came to work for the Falcons, their song ‘ Boom ‘ has been a fan favorite. Virtually every game we have played since then, their song has been played as part of our presentation.” Singer Sonny Sandoval also tweeted about their appearance at the event: Excited to be playing the @ nfl @ atlanta_falcons @ 49ers #Playoff Game #Halftime Show this Sunday!!!! @ pod @ thewhosoevers — Sonny Whosoever (@SonnyWhosoever) January 15, 2013 ? This isn’t the band’s first foray into NFL promotions. Back in 2007, P.O.D. created a theme song for their hometown San Diego Chargers. In addition to P.O.D., the Falcons have lined up country superstars the Zac Brown Band to perform the national anthem for the game. Sunday’s game between the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers will air at 3PM ET on FOX. Aside from the NFL appearance, P.O.D. will be plenty busy in the coming months. The band will continue to promote their ‘Murdered Love’ album on tour , opening shows for Shinedown and Three Days Grace . Best Kid Rock Song – Readers Poll

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Kid Rock has enjoyed a fruitful career that’s seen him enjoy success not only as a rock act, but also stepping into the worlds of hip-hop, country and pop just as easily. There’s no disagreeing that it’s hard to pin down the musician to just one genre, but some of his best songs have been rocking numbers. In this Loudwire Readers Poll, we’re asking you to determine Kid Rock’s best song. His ‘Devil Without a Cause’ album seems like a good place to start, with ‘I Am the Bullgod’ giving him some of his first radio play. That followed with a string of hits that included ‘Bawitdaba,’ ‘Cowboy’ and the rock ballad, ‘Only God Knows Why.’ After breaking big, the singer issued ‘The History of Rock’ detailing some of his earlier work and ‘American Bad Ass’ proved to be the disc’s breakout hit. Kid Rock’s ‘Cocky’ album led off with the single ‘Forever,’ followed by ‘Lonely Road of Faith’ and the crossover duet with Sheryl Crow on ‘Picture.’ The singer’s self-titled set spawned the hit song ‘Jackson, Mississippi,’ and Rock enjoyed a commercial rebound with the ‘Rock N Roll Jesus’ album, which gave us the hard-hitting ‘So Hott’ and the Lynyrd Skynyrd -influenced ‘All Summer Long,’ as well as ‘Amen.’ Rock went a little more message-oriented for the title track of the ‘Born Free’ album. That disc also spawned the college football theme song, ‘God Bless Saturday.’ And finally, the musician issued his ‘Rebel Soul’ album late last year, with ‘Let’s Ride’ being the first track to enjoy some airplay. So there you have it — 15 of Kid Rock’s most popular to choose from. Tell us which track is Kid Rock’s best song in the Loudwire Readers Poll below. Lacuna Coil Founding Member + Cayne Guitarist Claudio Leo Dies

Cayne: Official Facebook Page Sad news for metal fans everywhere: founding Lacuna Coil guitarist Claudio Leo, who also played for Italian metal band Cayne, has passed away. Leo was an essential member of Lacuna Coil in the band’s early stages, helping form the massive group in the mid-90s when they were known as Sleep of Right. The guitarist remained in Lacuna Coil until 1998, lending his talents to the band’s self-titled EP, which was released via Century Media Records the same year Leo and Lacuna Coil went their separate ways. After leaving Lacuna Coil, Leo and fellow ex-Lacuna Coil guitarist Raffaele Zagaria began Cayne in 1999, releasing their debut album, ‘Old Faded Pictures,’ in 2001. Cayne’s most recent release is the ‘Addicted EP,’ and the band is scheduled to release a new album on Valentine’s Day of this year. Lacuna Coil vocalist Cristina Scabbia posted a heartfelt statement on her official Facebook fan page, paying tribute to her former bandmate: It’s with deep sadness that I inform you all know that our dear friend and ex guitar player Claudio Leo left us. My deepest condolences to his family, close friends and the band Cayne. You will always be remembered for your strength and positivity. We love you, Claudio. Cayne also memorialized their fallen guitarist with a simple update: Goodbye Claudio. Rest in peace, brother. No cause of death has been revealed as of this posting, although it has been reported that Leo was suffering from a serious illness recently. We’d like to give our thoughts to Lacuna Coil, Cayne and the family and friends of Claudio Leo. Rest in Peace. Down and Warbeast Provide Passion and Emotion at Los Angeles Tour Stop

Kathy Flynn, WickedGoddessPhotography.com The temps may be chilly outside, but Down and Warbeast definitely brought the heat to West Hollywood’s Key Club Wednesday night (Jan. 16) for the Los Angeles stop of their winter tour. The two acts combined for a blistering night of rock and some rather emotional moments before all was said and done. As was announced right before the tour, both bands have dedicated the entire trek to the memory of late Rigor Mortis and Ministry guitarist Mike Scaccia and each of the acts made note of Scaccia’s legacy and friendship during their sets. During their performance, Warbeast dedicated tracks to the guitarist and urged fans to scream in his honor. It was obvious that frontman Bruce Corbitt was still feeling the loss of his onetime Rigor Mortis bandmate. Warbeast amped up the audience during their opening set. Guitarist Scott Shelby laid down some killer licks and Corbitt commanded the crowd throughout, with tracks like ‘Egotistical Bastard’ and ‘Krush the Enemy’ working the audience into a circle pit frenzy. The group ended their set on a high note with ‘It’ and ‘Birth of the Psycho,’ their two contributions to the newly released split EP with Phil Anselmo , ‘ War of the Gargantuas .’ Down were the night’s headliner and they did not disappoint with the audience passionately fist-pumping along to the band’s songs throughout the evening. Like Warbeast, Phil Anselmo offered his salute to Scaccia and also got a little teary-eyed mentioning the band’s home base of New Orleans before rocking out to ‘New Orleans Is a Dying Whore.’ But amidst the emotion, there was also some levity as Anselmo grabbed a bra that had been tossed onstage, gave it to drummer Jimmy Bower commenting that he thought it might not be big enough and then watched as Bower put on the undergarment to cover his shirtless body for the remainder of the show. Highlights of Down’s performance included a blistering version of ‘Witchtripper,’ fan favorites ‘Lifer’ and ‘Lysergic Funeral Procession,’ and the anthemic ‘Eyes of the South.’ The set also included an encore of ‘Stone the Crow’ and ‘Bury Me in Smoke,’ with members of Warbeast hopping up onstage for an extended jam on the final track. The Down / Warbeast ‘Weed and Speed’ tour rolls on into early February. To check out the remaining dates on the trek, click here .
