Stream the New Cretin Album Right Now!

Grincer connaisseurs  Cretin  recently popped their heads up when they were on the Decibel Magazine Tour last year, but other than that, they’ve been relatively quiet for quite some time. Eight years, to be exact, because that’s when they released their debut album,  Freakery . These guys have been long overdue for a new album, and now we finally get our wish: Cretin’s sophomore album,  Stranger , will be released next week, and the band is streaming it in full! Check out more info after the jump. Our pals over at No Clean Singing have the premiere, and it would behoove you to listen to it right this instant. If you’ve never heard Cretin but consider yourself a fan of grindcore and death metal, than man, have you been missing out. Cretin play a savage hybrid of death and grind a la  Repulsion  and  Napalm Death,  and they are fantastic. I consider  Freakery  to be a modern classic of the genre, and  Stranger  is a more than worthy continuation. It’s filled to the brim with blast beats, indecipherable vocals and razor-sharp grooves; what more could you ask of a grind record? Strangers  will be released next week on Dec. 9. It could very well be a late contender for year-end lists, so listen to it, get that list finalized and then share it with us here ! -AL

It's been a few months since, and now news has broke that Dallas-based engineer Kerry Crafton, who engineered the original self-titled for Capitol Records in 1988, has finished mixing the final … The post Mixing Is Complete On Final RIGOR MORTIS Album appeared first on Metal Injection .

Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready Hoping for New Album ‘This Year, For Sure’

Jeff Gross, Getty Images While Pearl Jam have been taking their time with new music, it appears as though the immediacy of generating new music is starting to ramp up for the band. Guitarist Mike McCready tells Rolling Stone that the group hopes to have their next album out “this year, for sure.” Speaking about the disc’s current status, he told the magazine, “We’re working on demos right now and we’re going to be recording soon. What everybody’s been saying is ‘ halfway done .’ I think that’s true — we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie [Vedder] brings in, so we’ll weed through those too.” McCready’s bandmate, Stone Gossard, recently suggested a “ nine-to-twelve month ” wait until a new album would be ready. The guitarist says he’s reluctant to discuss the album’s direction yet, adding, “What I can say won’t make any sense until you hear it.” However, he did offer, “I would say as a cliché answer, it’s kind of a logical extension of what ‘Backspacer’ was. But I think there’s a little more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.” The band met with producer Brendan O’Brien earlier this year and will resume work with their longtime knob-turner in the coming months. In the downtime though, McCready is free to pursue other passions. The guitarist is traveling to New Orleans to play ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and run a half-marathon in support of former Saints player Steve Gleason, who is battling ALS. Metallica To Rock National Anthem + Throw Out First Pitch at San Francisco Giants Game

Metallica.com With a new album in the works, a 3D film set to arrive in the summer, plans for a second Orion Festival and a headlining gig at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards, Metallica  have a busy 2013 ahead of them. And now the year got even more awesome with the announcement that the band will step up to the metal plate by performing the National Anthem and throwing out the first pitch at the San Francisco Giants game May 3 as part of the first ever Metallica Night at AT&T Park. The World Champion Giants will be playing against their arch rivals the Los Angeles Dodgers in a game that will even be more explosive with Metallica’s performance of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner.’ Special event tickets for the game go on sale this Saturday morning, Feb. 9, at 8AM PT. Go here to purchase your tickets. The special event ticket package includes a limited edition Metallica/Giants hat (which, as you’ll see in the poster below, is pretty dame awesome). A portion of the ticket sales donated to the Bill Graham Foundation, which strives to give grants in the area of music, the arts, and education, while also supporting social work, environmental protection, and spiritual and compassionate projects in our community. The pairing of the Giants and Dodgers is even more appealing considering that Metallica formed in L.A. but ended up settling in San Francisco during their early years.
