P.O.D. to Perform During Halftime of NFC Championship Game in Atlanta

Payableondeath.com P.O.D. may be homers for the San Diego Chargers, but with their team out of the playoff picture, they’ll travel to Atlanta this weekend to serve up some hard-hitting rock for those in attendance at the NFC Championship game. The rockers have been chosen as the halftime performers at the event, in part, due to the popularity of one of their tracks during Falcons football games. Roddy White, the director of event marketing for the Atlanta Falcons (not related to the wide receiver of the same name), told San Diego’s NBC affiliate , “This is kind of a neat thing. Since 2002, when I came to work for the Falcons, their song ‘ Boom ‘ has been a fan favorite. Virtually every game we have played since then, their song has been played as part of our presentation.” Singer Sonny Sandoval also tweeted about their appearance at the event: Excited to be playing the @ nfl @ atlanta_falcons @ 49ers #Playoff Game #Halftime Show this Sunday!!!! @ pod @ thewhosoevers — Sonny Whosoever (@SonnyWhosoever) January 15, 2013 ? This isn’t the band’s first foray into NFL promotions. Back in 2007, P.O.D. created a theme song for their hometown San Diego Chargers. In addition to P.O.D., the Falcons have lined up country superstars the Zac Brown Band to perform the national anthem for the game. Sunday’s game between the Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers will air at 3PM ET on FOX. Aside from the NFL appearance, P.O.D. will be plenty busy in the coming months. The band will continue to promote their ‘Murdered Love’ album on tour , opening shows for Shinedown and Three Days Grace . Kurt Cobain Documentary Filmmaker Inspired by ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ Movie

Frank Micelotta, Getty Images A new Kurt Cobain documentary film is currently being planned for a 2014 release, and it aims to delve into the true spirit of the late  Nirvana frontman. As popular as Cobain remains, the musician’s life continues to be somewhat of an enigma even among his most rabid fans. Now, the director of the recent Rolling Stones documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ has accepted the challenge to reveal the true nature of Cobain. ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ was released in 2012, receiving an impressive amount of critical acclaim and securing a 92 percent “fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes . Director Brett Morgen now seeks to create another success with the yet-untitled Kurt Cobain project. “If you think about Kurt, he’s a contradiction,” Morgen tells NME . “He could be sincere and sentimental, and also ironic and sarcastic. He was sweet and sour. He was incredibly funny too, and the film has to reflect his sprit.” Morgen adds, “The thing about him people might not know too is that he was an incredible visual artist and left behind a treasure chest of comic books, paintings, Super8 films, all sorts. We’re hoping the Cobain film, that’ll hopefully be released in 2014, will be this generation’s ‘The Wall’ – a mix of animation and live action that’ll allow the audience to experience Kurt in a way they never have before. It’s very ambitious.” As word of the Cobain documentary first broke, it was reported that Hole frontwoman and Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love would be a part of the film’s creation. Although Morgen stated that Love originally brought him into the project, it has been confirmed that Love will not be involved in the filmmaking process. GWAR’s Oderus Urungus Slams Rob Zombie, Claims Credit for Slipknot

Metal Blade GWAR front-thing Oderus Urungus is in the upper ranks when it comes to tearing humans apart both physically and orally. When he’s not ripping the limbs off celebrities and disemboweling politicians onstage, Oderus’ favorite pasttime is bashing those he feels are inferior to himself. In this most recent display, Oderus goes after both Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson , while taking the credit for Slipknot ‘s existence. The ‘Twins of Evil’ tour has been a source of controversy as of late, with co-headliners Zombie and Manson taking shots at each other onstage. Oderus Urungus addressed the situation during our recent interview with the intergalactic warmonger, but he went even more in-depth with BrowardPalmBeach.com . “A lot of bands have tried to do what GWAR does,” Oderus begins. ‘But no band has ever taken it as far as GWAR has. No one has ever out-sicked us. You think these Walmart behemoths of the music industry like Marilyn Manson or Rob Zombie are really scary people? That they have any kind of revolutionary agenda? All they care about is making money, and hanging out with their director buddies as they throw gala award ceremonies to circle jerk each other into a frenzy. GWAR is where GWAR should be: In the drawer marked filth.” The hideous space barbarian continues, “There would not be Slipknot without GWAR. I have a direct quote from Rob Zombie about GWAR when he was figuring out what he wanted to do with his career. They asked him, “Hey what do you think of them?” and he said, “The first time I saw GWAR, I thought ‘I want to be that, but I want to make money.’” That to me says a lot about Rob Zombie as an artist. It says that he isn’t one … Rob Zombie is a tired, G-Rated, mishmash of other people’s styles. When I see Slipknot I see lots of pentagrams and cow skulls. Really familiar imagery. What I do like about Slipknot is their music. Their drummer is f—ing amazing. But when I get to Marilyn Manson, he’s a little harder to peg. A little Alice Cooper, a little Bowie, a little Johnny Rotten.” GWAR are currently on tour with Devildriver, Cancer Bats + Legacy of Disorder. SLIPKNOT’s Clown and FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH’s Ivan Moody Star In Movie

I don't know if I should thank Axl Rosenberg of MetalSucks or be mad at him for exposing me to the trailer for The Devil’s Carnival, a new movie from the director of a bunch of Saw sequels. The movie finds metal luminaries like Clown from Slipknot and Five Finger Death Punch frontman Ivan Moody …
