God damn you guys get some good tours. Luckily I won’t have to wait as long

Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato Offers Update on Max Cavalera + Troy Sanders Project

Anna Weber / Carlos Muina / Karl Walter, Getty Images There were some eyebrows raised last year when Mastodon ‘s Troy Sanders and Soulfly ‘s Max Cavalera revealed they were working on a project together , and the anticipation level grew once it was revealed that Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato and The Mars Volta ‘s former drummer Dave Elitch were involved as well. With some time for the band to work through the specifics, Puciato has offered an update on their new album progress. He tells Noisecreep , “We have 11 songs written … We had a really easy time writing and we may actually be recording really soon, like in the next month or so. And then we’ll have to sit on it. We can’t release it right behind the Dillinger record and we also have to figure out when the Mastodon record is coming out and the same for whatever Max is doing next. It’s going to come out. It’s just going to be a matter of logistics as to when.” Puciato says the idea for the band came together when he was at a Deftones show in Los Angeles and started talking with Cavalera about their shared love for old thrash metal, punk and hardcore. He recalls, “We found ourselves referencing many of the same things and we were like, ‘F– man, we should make a record and do it together as a one-off like Nailbomb.” The Dillinger leader adds, “No one in metal makes collaborative records like people in jazz and hip-hop do. It doesn’t have to be like a band that you’re launching from the ground that you go on tour with. There is something to be said for collaboration and throwing yourself out there and learning something new from working with different people.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/the-dillinger-escape-plan-when-good-dogs-do-bad-things-top-21st-century-metal-songs/ ” title=”Next: Dillinger Escape Plan – Top 21st Century Metal Songs” align=”center”]

Mastodon’s Troy Sanders Saved by Wonder Dog in Orange Amplifiers Short Film

YouTube Mastodon  singer-bassist  Troy Sanders is sitting backstage riffing on a guitar when he learns that all six of his amps have bitten the dust just shortly before he’s going onstage. Though the scenario is not that likely, it’s played to the full humorous hilt for the new short film / promo starring Sanders for Orange Amplifiers. In the short, Sanders gets to play a cockier version of himself, fully consumed with his own greatness and upset that he’s due to go onstage without the use of amplification. But a quick call and not-so-immediate response from the Orange Amps warehouse may solve the situation. The clerk puts his best man in charge, and by “man,” we mean the wonder dog Bear who traipses all across town to get to the show on time, but does actually get distracted by the city skyline, some vinyl record shopping and a quick bite to eat along the way. With the clock ticking, Sanders starts to worry about whether he’ll have to play without his amp, but just as he’s about to take the stage, Bear shows up with Orange’s Micro Terror hanging around his neck. A relieved Sanders takes the stage to the roaring applause of the crowd, plugs in to his newly-arrived amp and rocks the audience to their satisfaction. Stone Sour + Mastodon Join 2013 Download Festival Lineup

Adam Bettcher / Ethan Miller, Getty Images The Download Festival has done it again, putting together one of the best music lineups in recent memory, especially if you’re a hard rock and metal fan. The 2013 event, which runs June 14-16 at Donington Park in the U.K., just increased the awesomeness of its  already stellar lineup by adding Stone Sour and Mastodon . For Stone Sour, this marks the second major festival of 2013 where Corey Taylor will get to pull double duty (the other is Ozzfest Japan ), as his other band,  Slipknot , have been confirmed as one of Download’s headliners. Stone Sour have been building extra buzz from their ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1′ album and their European tour with Papa Roach . As an extra little gift for fans, by the time Stone Sour return to Download, ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 2′ will be in stores. The status of Mastodon by the time that Download comes around is a bit murkier. Brent Hinds recently revealed that while the band is enjoying supporting their 2011 album, ‘The Hunter,’ they actually have a good start making music for their next effort, possibly using some of early 2013 to lay down tracks. Depending on how they progress, the band will either still be promoting ‘The Hunter’ or potentially gearing up for a new release. The three-day event will have Slipknot, Iron Maiden and Rammstein as the headlining bands for the individual days. Other acts set to play Download include Bullet for My Valentine , Queens of the Stone Age , 30 Seconds to Mars , Motorhead , the Gaslight Anthem , Alice in Chains , A Day to Remember , H.I.M. , Volbeat and the reunited Coal Chamber . More bands are expected to be revealed in the weeks and months leading up to the festival. For ticketing information on the 2013 Download Festival, please check here . Mastodon Writing Music for Summer 2013 ‘Monsters Inc.’ Prequel

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Getty Images Mastodon have the wheels in motion for their follow-up to ‘The Hunter’ album, but at least one of their forthcoming songs (and perhaps more) may have a more child-friendly slant that the rest of their material. That’s because the group is reportedly working on music for the upcoming ‘Monsters Inc.’ prequel, ‘Monsters University.’ The band revealed the news in a Facebook posting (which appears to have since been removed), as reported by Metal Injection . The movie itself is set 10 years prior to the hit Pixar film, which debuted back in 2001. It follows the story of Sulley and Mike as they attend school and plan their future careers. The movie is set for a June 21 release next summer. Mastodon did not elaborate beyond the fact that they were “writing and recording a song for the new ‘Monsters, Inc.’ movie,” but the timing appears to be right as Brent Hinds recently revealed that the group has already started writing and coming up with ideas for their next album. The group has prior experience working in the animation field, penning the track ‘Cut You With a Linoleum Knife’ for the ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.’ You can watch their ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ contribution below. Mastodon’s Brent Hinds Says New Songs Are ‘Radioheadish and Very Spooky Sounding’

Reprise Mastodon are coming off one of their more well-received albums with ‘The Hunter’ and they’re in the mood to keep things rolling. Singer-guitarist Brent Hinds reveals that writing is currently underway on their follow-up and there’s potential that they’ll begin recording just after the start of 2013. Hinds tells MTV Hive , “We’ve never put out an album a year. That would be unlike us, so maybe we could tour for another year on ‘The Hunter.’ It’s very possible.” Mastodon is wrapping up a South American tour with the possibility that Hinds will follow with some West End Motel shows in support of their ‘Only Time Can Tell’ disc. Once that is done, Hinds says there’s a chance that a January Mastodon recording session could follow. As for the Mastodon stuff he’s been working on of late, he explains, “A lot of the stuff I’m writing is in open G-minor. I’m playing a lot of slide guitar and just getting really Jimmy Page -y on the place and getting really eerie and Radiohead ish and very spooky sounding.” Hinds says he has three songs worth of material, but he adds, “It could be one gigantic one. I haven’t made up my mind yet.” Regardless of how far along he is, he’s confident that the rest of his bandmates are also working toward the common goal of a new record. He concludes, “Those dudes are always working. There’s never really a shortage of music with Mastodon because all of us are working on something musically. I’m in good company. Just because they might [see me] stand in the middle of the stage or something, people might think this is the leader. He must conduct everything, but we’re all the leaders. We spread the weight around.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/best-mastodon-songs/” title=”Next: Top 10 Mastodon Songs” align=”center”]

Mastodon’s Troy Sanders Joins Max Cavalera in New Supergroup

Michael Buckner / Carlos Muina, Getty Images Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera has spoken in the past about an upcoming musical project with Dillinger Escape Plan vocalist Greg Puciato and former Mars Volta drummer Dave Elitch, but a new member has been added to the yet-unnamed supergroup. That man just happens to be Troy Sanders , the bassist and co-vocalist of modern metal outfit  Mastodon . During an interview with Singapore metal radio show ‘Vicious Volume,’ Max Cavalera announced the inclusion of Sanders in the upcoming experiment. “Troy from Mastodon just joined the band, too, so now we’ve got three singers for the project, which is also really killer,” says Cavalera. “I’m really excited about that, too. I think it’s gonna be a very original project. I don’t know any other metal projects out there with three people singing like this. So it can be almost like a Transplants of metal. Transplants had three singers; this also has three singers, and it can be very, very great.” He continues, “I’m following, in a lot of ways, some of the same footsteps as Nailbomb in my approach to this project — a lot of do-it-yourself, punk-rock kind of feeling to the project. So the songs are written really quick — I don’t think too much about it. I like it more like that, so they are very raw. We are working on the [music] in December and then we’re hoping to get in the studio in January. The main thing we don’t have is a name.” Mastodon are currently cruising through South America and Mexico for a small amount of dates, and none of the other acts with members in the upcoming project are currently on tour, so it seems like the new project will being to grow right on schedule.
