Casting Call: Who Should Play Nirvana in a Movie?

Universal Music Few bands have made quite the impact that Nirvana did when they exploded onto the scene in the early ’90s. Led by frontman Kurt Cobain and featuring the talents of drummer Dave Grohl and bassist Krist Novoselic , Nirvana revolutionized rock music with their 1991 sophomore album, ‘Nevermind.’ Tragically, Cobain took his own life in 1994, but their music and legacy lives on, making them the perfect subject for a big-screen biopic. But who should play the iconic rockers in a movie? We think we’ve found three very strong candidates to portray the members of Nirvana. Check them out below: Kurt Cobain Played by Joe Anderson Frank Micelotta, Getty Images / IMDB Talk about an uncanny resemblance! Actor Joe Anderson is the spitting image of the late, great Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. While you may have seen Anderson in the Liam Neeson film ‘The Grey’ or the TV series ‘The River,’ he remains relatively unknown, making him a perfect candidate to play the enigmatic Cobain. That said, it’s no easy task portraying a troubled musical genius that changed the face of rock music forever. ? Dave Grohl Played by Efren Ramirez Universal / Alberto E. Rodriguez, Getty Images Along with being an extremely talented drummer, Dave Grohl is one of rock music’s resident funnymen. He was always the jovial member of Nirvana, and has continued to show his sense of humor as the frontman of Foo Fighters. In addition to having similar facial features as Grohl, ‘Napoleon Dynamite’ actor Efren Ramirez can definitely display the musician’s comedic side. So, we say ‘Vote for Pedro’ to play Dave Grohl in the Nirvana movie. ? Krist Novoselic Played by Jason Segel Jeff Kravitz / Jason Merritt, Getty Images The first qualification to play the 6-foot, 6-inch Krist Novoselic is that you gotta be tall. And at 6 foot, 4 inches, ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor Jason Segel definitely fits the bill, as he also resembles Novoselic. Segel has been known to play a bit of a klutzy oaf in movies, and that experience will come in handy when he re-enacts the scene of Novoselic tossing his bass in the air at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards and having it land on his face. Who do you think should play the members of Nirvana if a biopic was made about them? Let us know in the comments section below. Nirvana Members + Paul McCartney Release Studio Version of ‘Cut Me Some Slack’

Sound City For everyone out there who was blown away by surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl , Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear  jamming with Beatles icon Paul McCartney at the ’12-12-12′ Hurricane Sandy benefit show, we’ve got some good news for you! The song performed by the collective, ‘Cut Me Some Slack,’ is now available on iTunes. The incredibly raw track has a strong Nirvana vibe to it, while adding a splash of Sir Paul’s personality and heavier Beatles songs such as ‘Helter Skelter.’ The unlikely collaboration was recorded for Dave Grohl’s highly anticipated ‘Sound City’ documentary, which is set for a February 2013 premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. The flick will become available simultaneously through video-on-demand services as the Sundance projector starts to roll. At first, McCartney simply thought he was jamming with Grohl and some random musicians, unknowingly finding himself in the middle of a partial Nirvana reunion. “I didn’t really know who they were,” begins McCartney. “They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said, ‘Whoa? You guys haven’t played together for all that time?’ And somebody whispered to me, ‘That’s Nirvana. You’re Kurt.’ I couldn’t believe it.” Expectations were high when the public learned that an original song was composed by the group, but when McCartney, Grohl, Novoselic and Smear took the stage at ’12-12-12,’ the worldwide audience knew that they were witnessing something remarkable. The documentary’s soundtrack, ‘Sound City – Real to Reel,’ will see a March 12 release, but ‘Cut Me Some Slack’ is already available to purchase via iTunes . Go buy it! Nirvana’s Krist Novoselic Performs Campaign Song for Politician Bill Finkbeiner

Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has found passion in political activism along with music, but now, the legendary musician has combined the two in a campaign video for Washington Lt. Governor hopeful Bill Finkbeiner. The Republican politician teamed up with Novoselic to perform his own campaign theme, a take on Johnny Cash’s ‘I’ve Been Everywhere.’ The song is accompanied by a YouTube video, which begins with a statement from Finkbeiner. “It’s
