Slayer’s Kerry King on Next Album: ‘I’m Very Comfortable Saying That It Will Be Out This Year’

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Although Slayer have a way to go in recording their next album and there is no set timetable for when it may come out, guitarist Kerry King has stated that he is “very comfortable saying” that the record will see a 2013 release date. ‘That Metal Show’ host Eddie Trunk spoke with King at the 2013 NAMM convention and nabbed a comment from the legendary thrash guitarist. “We have two songs that we completed last May and just need mixing,” reveals King. “We have another that just needs vocals and leads and me and [drummer]  Dave [Lombardo]  are working on a complete new one that we haven’t demoed. The whole hold-up now that seems to happen with every album we do is that Rick Rubin wants to change distributors. So we’re left in limbo until he lands somewhere. Realistically we are without a deal, but we plan on staying with Rick. When that gets settled we will start recording. I’m very comfortable saying that it will be out this year.” King also commented on the health of guitarist Jeff Hanneman , who is still recovering from necrotizing fasciitis after suffering a spider bite. “Not to sound weird, but when you get off tour, you scatter. And [it’s not] because I hate him, I don’t talk to him because I had enough of him! I don’t even talk to [singer] Tom [Araya]. The only reason I talk to Dave is that we rehearse all the time. When I go off tour I just want to go chill and be Kerry, not Kerry King. From what I know he’s still trying to get basic in the game.” Hanneman has unfortunately not been able to contribute to the next Slayer record as of yet. “I have enough material on my own if need be, but I’m open,” King says. “If Jeff comes to the party with some new material, hell ya! I will play all the guitars. I’ve been playing all the guitars for years anyway, except for Jeff’s leads.” Check out Eddie Trunk’s full interview with Kerry King below. Trivium Frontman Matt Heafy Performs Acoustic Cover of Opeth’s ‘Harvest’ in New Video

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Trivium  frontman Matt Heafy  has been covering the Opeth song ‘Harvest’ at some recent solo acoustic shows, including one in New York that Loudwire reviewed . Now, a video of Heafy performing the song in a studio has been released. (watch below) In discussing the songs he picked to do at the acoustic shows, Heafy said, “It was just things I felt like doing, artists that I love, like Depeche Mode and Opeth so I figured I might as well. I love Opeth. I guess for the Trivium fans if they were coming, they would be like ‘What the hell are these song choices?’ but it’s just stuff that I love.” The video for ‘Harvest’ was shot in the house/studio where Trivium are in the midst of recording their sixth album. It was recently revealed that  David Draiman of Disturbed is producing the album. The band has been posting several photos of the sessions on their Facebook page , and announced last week that pre-production was finished and Heafy had begun recording scratch tracks. It will be interesting to see if any other videos of cover songs Heafy did during those acoustic shows will be released. Some of the songs he has performed include Depeche Mode’s ‘The Sweetest Perfection,’ Elvis Presley’s ‘Can’t Help Falling In Love,’ Nine Inch Nails’s ‘Hurt’ and Roy Orbison’s ‘In Dreams.’ Watch Matt Heafy Perform Opeth’s ‘Harvest’ Harvest from jonpaul douglass on Vimeo .

Halestorm Bring the Rock to ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ With ‘Love Bites’ and ‘Freak Like Me’

Facebook: Halestorm Halestorm got in a little late night action Tuesday (Jan. 29), performing on ABC’s ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ and sharing two of their favorite tracks for the studio audience. ‘Love Bites (So Do I)’ aired on the national television broadcast, while the band also performed their current single, ‘Freak Like Me,’ as a Web-only bonus. Both performances can be seen below. Lzzy Hale , with her long hair pulled up for the evening, delivered her usual amount of energy and vitality on ‘Love Bites (So Do I).’ The track began with the combination of drummer Arejay Hale’s arms and hair flying during the hard-hitting intro, while Lzzy and guitarist Joe Hottinger traded some wicked licks. As for the Web-only bonus performance, ‘Freak Like Me,’ Lzzy Hale and bassist Josh Smith brought a perfect vocal blend during the chorus and Arejay Hale got a little bit of camera time to show off some of his stick handling on the song. Lzzy also unleashed a fairly powerful blood-curdling scream during the track. Halestorm are currently enjoying a respite from the road, but will head to Europe in March for a tour before returning to the States in April to play the ‘ HardDrive Live ‘ tour with headliners Bullet for My Valentine . Korn’s Jonathan Davis Receives U.S. Flag Flown in Afghanistan From Air Force Supervisor

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Korn frontman Jonathan Davis is an avid supporter of the U.S. military, as evidenced with his continued USO meet-and-greets and performances for U.S. servicemen and women and his participation in the recent ‘ Wounded Warriors ‘ short film. The singer’s support continued during a special meeting set up at the ShipRocked event in late November. United States Air Force Shift Supervisor Michael Bowser attended the cruise performance, where he was finally able to meet his hard rock hero and present him with a flag flown over an Afghanistan base on Sept. 11, 2012. Video footage of the presentation may be seen below. Bowser said he also collected flags for Five Finger Death Punch and Sevendust , who were also among his favorite bands, to present to them, as well. He told Davis, “Hopefully this can give back to you guys what you’ve given to me, because if it wasn’t for rock music I wouldn’t get through deployment.” A moved Davis responded, “I know lots of people and I know the s— you all are going through. This is amazing. This will definitely be displayed at our studio.” Just last fall, Davis was presented with the uniform of Marine Lance Cpl. William H. ‘Billy’ Crouse IV by his brother Ryan Rothman. Crouse was killed during a bombing in Afghanistan. It’s expected that Bowser’s flag will be displayed alongside Crouse’s uniform and other gifts that band has received from the military over the years. Drowning Pool, ‘One Finger and a Fist’ Lyric Video – Exclusive Premiere

Facebook: Drowning Pool It looks as though Drowning Pool  are maintaining their aggression with new singer Jasen Moreno leading the way. The new track ‘One Finger and a Fist’ is an amped up rocker and Drowning Pool are exclusively premiering the lyric video for the song right here at Loudwire. ‘One Finger and a Fist’ could arguably be one of the band’s most confrontational songs, boasting the lyrics, “ I’ve got news for you / you’re not the first one, won’t be the last / Won’t take abuse from you / I see you run, son, you’re running fast .” The band also states in the chorus, “ One finger and a fist / I’ll claw my way out any situation .” For the video, the lyrics fly at the viewer at rapid speed while set against the backdrop of computer generated visual effects mimicking hands, arms and a certain finger that appear occasionally independent of a full body. ‘One Finger and a Fist’ was offered as a free download for a limited period back in December. It’s also one of the key tracks to their first album with Moreno on vocals. Other cuts that have been heard since Moreno took over include ‘In Memory Of …, ‘ a song that was issued as a tribute to the band’s original frontman, the late Dave Williams, and their recent single, ‘ Saturday Night .’ Drowning Pool will hit the road  in February, sharing the stage with another act employing a new vocalist — Flyleaf . The trek runs through March 24. Details on Drowning Pool’s new album are expected very shortly.
