Tony Iommi Wins Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com In an incredibly close race that saw multiple lead changes throughout the entire voting process, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi narrowly beat out Slipknot / Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor for Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. The legendary axe-man and master of the riff was diagnosed with cancer early in 2012, and although it stopped the majority of Black Sabbath’s tour dates, one thing it never stopped was Tony Iommi. Despite the lymphoma diagnosis, Iommi continued writing for Black Sabbath’s massively anticipated next album, ’13,’ laying down guitar lines that will surely blow us away once its released in June 2013. Machine Head Win Metal Video of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards

Roadrunner Coming in strong in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards with more than half of the overall vote for Metal Video of the Year is Machine Head for ‘Darkness Within.’ The honor is incredibly well-earned, as the visual accompaniment for ‘Darkness Within’ plays more like an acclaimed short film rather than a music video. The brilliance of ‘Darkness Within’ managed to beat the cartoon clairvoyance of Dethklok, the messianic time traveling of High on Fire, the disturbing Job for a Cowboy and the acid-laced ape assault of Pig Destroyer. Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn praised bands such as Behemoth and Rammstein for their game-changing music videos, which inspired Flynn and the rest of Machine Head to create something more than just “dudes in a warehouse playing.” Congrats to Machine Head for winning the 2012 Loudwire Music Award for Metal Video of the Year. Dave Grohl + Corey Taylor ‘Sound City’ Collaboration ‘From Can to Can’t’ Surfaces

Theo Wargo / Kevin Winter, Getty Images It’s hard to follow in Paul McCartney ‘s footsteps , but if there’s anyone with the balls and pedigree to do it, Corey Taylor would be that man. The Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman, who seemingly has his hands in everything, was one of the participants in Dave Grohl ‘s ‘Sound City’ documentary and a new song featuring Taylor from the soundtrack has surfaced online. ‘From Can to Can’t’ received its premiere on the BBC today and a radio rip of the track has surfaced online courtesy of a radio rip from  Antiquiet  (listen here). The track, which also features Cheap Trick ‘s Rick Nielsen and former Kyuss bassist Scott Reeder with Grohl on drums, is a slow builder. Taylor puts his emotion into the track as it goes from mid-tempo to full-on rocker. Both Taylor and Nielsen will be on hand as part of Grohl’s Sound City Players when the star-studded film premiere concert takes place this Friday (Jan. 18) in Park City, Utah at the Sundance Film Festival. Nielsen will also perform at the post Los Angeles premiere concert bash , as well, on Jan. 31. The ‘Sound City’ soundtrack arrives in stores March 12.
