Refused Reflect on 2012 Reunion + Announce Hometown Finale

Refused – Official Site When we reflect on 2012, one of the better reunions to take place will have been that of Swedish hardcore punk outfit Refused . However, the band has revealed that the time has come for the reunion to wind down, and they’ve decided that the best place to do it would be their hometown in Umea, Sweden at the Exel Arena on Dec. 15. The group made the most of their time back together, hitting just about every major festival you can imagine. Their touring took them to such festivals as  Coachella , Rock am Ring, Roskilde, Groezrock, Download, Primavera Sound, Fuji Rock, and Pukkelpop among others. Plus, they made a rare television appearance on ‘ Late Night with Jimmy Fallon .’ As the band prepare to say farewell, they decided to put their thoughts into words and offered this note of reflection on their Facebook page: So there were those years right after school, when you were 15 and pissed off and everyone thought you were a loser and you ran around with the other weirdos, generating weirdness and little else. And there were those years when what set you apart from the others become a fixation and a lifestyle and you had a band and people talked about what you did but you were so used to being weird you just lumped them in with the rest of the slanderers. Then there were those years when the ideas you’d clung to through late adolescence were beginning to ring hollow and you got more and more confused and destructive and the band broke up and you had rent to pay. That was among the tougher years. And then slowly, over a span of time, you began to sort yourself out and your friends started making sensible decisions in their lives and it suddenly began to seem like most of you were gonna be ok. And then there was the year when you stopped being a petulent kid and you got your favorite musicians together in a room again and decided that you were gonna accept the love of thousands of listeners, accept the success that was waiting there to be had and just in general enjoy being appreciated for the exact same qualities that made you a freak to your contemporaries in your teens. This was one of the better years. And now it is coming to a close. It’s been kind to us. And that old punkrock golem “The shape of punk to come” has done good. The hatchet is buried, 1998 is not such a terrible memory for us anymore. We’re going home. And we’re doing it in style. With old friends and new acquaintances in tow we’re gonna take over our old hometown Umeå for one more night, just because we can. On the 15th of december at the Exel arena we’ll be sharing the stage with these magnificent comrades: Randy, a band of punkrock bandidos from the north who we befriended years before we even were Refused, Two White Horses, an excellent sister/brother-duo from Sävar, both of whom we’ve individually collaborated with in different musical projects through the years, and Råd Kjetil Senza Testa, a new and exciting musical collective consisting of old Umeå pop and hardcore scenesters, among them the guy who produced the very first version of New noise for a local hardcore compilation in early 1997. We unconditionally endorse these bands. Great music, good crude fun, what more do you need? It’s going to be one of those nights. Thank you for populating the pit in 2012. Over and out. Pennywise Reunite With Frontman Jim Lindberg

Bryan Bedder, Getty Images It was a less than amicable parting of the ways, but after three years away singer Jim Lindberg is rejoining Pennywise . Lindberg and guitarist Fletcher Dragge appeared on KROQ’s  Kevin and Bean Show  in Los Angeles to make the announcement and revealed that the reunion will finally follow through when they take the stage at a January performance. Dragge explained, “We’re happy to announce that Jim is rejoining Pennywise and we’re all looking forward to playing music together again. We’re going to celebrate our reunion with a show at the Hollywood Palladium, Jan. 18, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pennywise for our friends and fans in L.A.” Lindberg admitted that being back with the band was somewhat of a surprise, and he joked, “[I feel like] someone who took an Ambien [and] has found themselves down by the lake and they don’t know how they got there.” Dragge revealed that the first step in the reunion came about after “a little self introspection,” and that he called Lindberg while he was at a bachelor party. Lindberg said he had erased Dragge’s number, thinking he’d never hear from him again as he’d repeatedly called following his initial exit only to have Dragge not answer or return any of his messages. Meanwhile, it appears as though things have worked out all around for the singer switch. Zoli Teglas, who joined the group after Lindberg’s exit and sang on the band’s ‘All or Nothing’ album, had back surgery earlier this year, which has kept the band off the road. His recovery has taken longer than expected, and according to both Lindberg and Dragge, the vocalist let it be known he was ready to exit. “He’s actually happy. He’s happy to get the hell out of here,” says Dragge. “Jim told me he was calling and saying, ‘Hurry up and come back man.’” For now, Pennywise just has the 25th anniversary show at the Hollywood Palladium on their schedule. Tickets for the Jan. 18 performance go on sale via Live Nation this Friday (Nov. 2) at noon here . DJ Lethal Returns to Limp Bizkit After Posting Apology via Twitter

Ryan Pierse, Getty Images It seems that all is right in the world of  Limp Bizkit  again, as estranged member  DJ Lethal has returned to the band after apologizing for his actions during a feud that had lasted several months. DJ Lethal had recently gone on a Twitter tirade about Bizkit. In one particular tweet, Lethal posted , “I hate a–holes that judge me for leaving a ‘band’ I was in for 15 years. Your like a f-n moose that got lucky!! F— Fred Durst. I was talented and was an artist [long] before u even knew who Fred was. If [you’re] gonna be a #wigger, than do your homework. #houseofpain b-tch!” Luckily for Bizkit fans, the battle seems to have been brought to a halt, as DJ Lethal once again went to Twitter on Oct. 10. Here is a compilation of a series of Tweets from the turntablist: I want to clear the air about limp bizkit. I have had some personal issues over the last few years that have led to some outbursts. I lot of the things I said about the band and fred was out of pain and anger. None of which I really meant deep down inside. So I think I owe it to fred,Wes,sam and john and the fans to really admit the truth. I had some problems. Be it partying on the road. Talking shit when I was drunk and causing internal conflicts. Today is the day that I can finally be a man and step up and say I’m sorry. The rants are done. And were really embarrassing. I think the guys in the band were actually looking out,I really needed a wake up call. So to finally come clean is really hard but the weight of the world on my shoulders is even harder to carry around. I’m in a great place now and want to thank everyone who had my back through the dark times. So to all the fans and the band. I really was fkd up for a while. I’m sorry. Fred and the band are great people. We’re all human. All love!! Feels great to finally step up to the plate. I hope we can resolve our issues because I miss my friends and band mates. FC Ty for his help. The guys in our band are true gentlemen. Giving me a second chance after the stupid shit I talked and the way I acted really shows class.LBF Now it’s time to step up to the plate and I’m hitting this ball out of the park. I was wondering how it would To be back. AMAZING!grateful” In response, Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland tweeted out a big virtual kiss to Lethal, simply writing , “Muah! @djlethal.” And in Lethal’s latest Tweet, posted Sunday (Oct. 14), he stated that he would be hitting the studio with Bizkit to write songs for their upcoming album. Weird Al Yankovic Looks Back on ‘Smells Like Nirvana’

YouTube After a string of successful parody singles in the ’80s, the career of Weird Al Yankovic hit a lull. However, he rebounded with ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ from 1992′s ‘Off the Deep End,’ and Yankovic recently  spoke with Spin about the parody of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ near the 20th anniversary of its release. The most difficult part of the process was tracking down  Kurt Cobain to get permission to do the song. “A friend of mine was in the cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’ [Victoria Jackson],” Yankovic recalls. “I told her, if you ever get Kurt Cobain alone in a room, put him on the phone, because I’d love to talk to him — and she did! Directly! He was sweet and he got it in like five seconds and said, ‘Of course you can do a parody.’” Yankovic continues, “The famous quote from him was, ‘Is it going to be a song about food?’ because at that point that’s primarily what I was known for. And I said, ‘Well, no, it’s going to be a song about how nobody can understand your lyrics.’ And he said, “Oh, sure, of course, that’s funny.” The song was a massive success, and the video for ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ was shot on the same soundstage as ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and used many of the same props and even some of the same cheerleaders and audience members. It ended up being nominated for ‘Best Male Video’ at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. After ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ was released, Yankovic had a chance encounter with Cobain. “I only met Kurt in person once at a restaurant in Los Angeles. He just happened to be eating at an adjoining table with his friends. This was after the parody had come out, so I got to go over and thank him in person. I just profusely thanked him and said, “Anything I can do for you, let me know.” Kurt extended his hand to me and said, ‘Polish my nails.’” Watch Weird Al Yankovic – ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ Video
