Ozzy Osbourne on Black Sabbath’s New Album: ‘What It Boils Down to Now Is the Music’

Jeff Gross, Getty Images The members of  Black Sabbath may not be the rock miscreants they were in their 20s, but Ozzy Osbourne is fine with that, as it’s brought the group back to what initially mattered to them in the first place — the music. Osbourne spoke with the New Zealand Herald about the differences between the Sabbath of old and what’s happening now and how age has brought some perspective. The vocalist says, “What’s different now is that none of us get drunk or stoned or any of that stuff. We’re all clean and all in control of ourselves. We’re not intimidated by each other. There are no arguments, and it’s the way [that] it should be. But when we were kids, we had egos. When you’re 21 and you get some success it takes a while to get your head around it.” Osbourne explains that the egos, the spoils of success, the alcohol and drugs, the groupies and everything else that comes with being in a successful rock band is hard enough for just one person to deal with, but having survived all that, he’s happy to be rocking again with his longtime friends. “We’ve done it all,” says Osbourne. “So what it boils down to now is the music — and that’s what got us where we are in the first place. We have come through the other side, we’re still able to work together, and that’s where the enjoyment comes from. It’s been a lot of fun making this record.” The singer says, “It’s been more than 30 years since I really worked seriously with the guys. We had a try a few years back but nothing really came of it. But for some reason the timing is right and we’ve done about 15 songs.” At present, the band is eying an April 2013 release for their new studio album. Osbourne concludes, “Black Sabbath is very unique in the respect that nothing is formulated. It’s very unpredictable. I just hope the people who have waited all these years aren’t disappointed.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/black-sabbath-continue-recording-new-album-reveal-vinyl-box-set-details/” title=”Next: Black Sabbath Detail Vinyl Box Set” align=”center”]

Ozzy Osbourne’s ‘Crazy Train’ Covered by Broadway Vet Rena Strober + Cellist Tina Guo

YouTube Ozzy Osbourne ‘s ‘Crazy Train’ has become one of the great songs in metal history and as such, it’s also been one of the most covered tracks in the genre. The latest artist to take a stab at the song is Broadway veteran Rena Strober, who along with acclaimed cellist Tina Guo, serve up a more clean-cut version of the classic song. Strober and Guo both make appearances in the new video, which has been dubbed ‘Crazy Train: The Wizard of Ozzy.’ While the wholesome look of Strober in the clip may not be exactly what some would expect to match the song’s lyrical content, the singer no less delivers the track with a full voice and a hint of “crazy” in her eyes and smile. Meanwhile, Guo is ferociously awesome on the standup electric bass and the fury at which she’s attacking the instrument is embellished a bit by the shaky camera movements. Strober has enjoyed a solid run on the stage, appearing the Broadway version of ‘Les Miserables,’ staging her one-woman show ‘Spaghetti & Matzo Balls,’ and touring the country in a production of ‘Fiddler on the Roof.’ She’s also released her own album called ‘Finding Home.’ Guo has managed to meld both classical playing and a rock/metal fusion into her cello style. She’s worked primarily creating music for motion pictures, video games and television scores. Most recently, Guo has been the featured soloist on the electric cello for Cirque du Soleil’s Michael Jackson ‘The Immortal’ World Tour. She was also featured as part of the Foo Fighters lineup for the Grammy Awards. As for Osbourne, he’s enjoyed a career as both a solo artist and member of Black Sabbath . He also was recently named President of Heavy Metal in a Loudwire election. Ozzy Osbourne’s Son Jack Osbourne Marries Lisa Stelly in Hawaii

Frazer Harrison, Getty Images A few days after he took to Twitter to laugh off rumors of his impending nuptials, Ozzy Osbourne ‘s son Jack made them come true by walking down the aisle with his new bride, actress and model Lisa Stelly. The UK tabloid Hello! was on hand to witness the ceremony, which took place in Hawaii on Sunday (Oct. 7) — just two days before Jack’s mom Sharon celebrates her 60th birthday  (Oct. 9), and a little more than 30 years after she and Jack’s dad Ozzy tied the knot in Maui. According to Hello!, the guest list was appropriately exclusive with fewer than 50 attendees on hand — but it was, of course, an Osbourne family event, with Jack’s sister Kelly serving as one of the bridesmaids and both of the famous elder Osbournes on hand to celebrate his wedded bliss. The wedding caps a tumultuous year for Jack, who celebrated the birth of his and Stelly’s first child in April 24, then dealt with his multiple sclerosis diagnosis just a few weeks later. “Even when I was at the hospital, we were discussing the plans,” Stelly was quoted as saying in an earlier report. “It’s going to be great. After we had the baby we decided we didn’t want to waste any more time.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/ozzy-osbourne-celebrate-sharon-60th-birthday-the-talk/” title=”Next: Ozzy to Celebrate Sharon’s 60th Birthday on ‘The Talk'” align=”center”]
