Housecore Legendary Pantera / Down vocalist Phil Anselmo is set to add another record to his impressive library of musical contributions. Anselmo will be unveiling his solo material on a new split titled ‘War of the Gargantuas’ with the thrashers of Warbeast. Anselmo and Warbeast will each contribute two songs to the split, which will contain the first official solo material from Anselmo in his near 30-year run. “This split is a glimpse into the future of both my solo project and ultimate thrash metallers Warbeast,” begins Anselmo. “The title of the split is War of the Gargantuas and it is fitting on many levels because of our combined love for the ’60s Japanese film of the same name, the power of our combined musical output(s) and our humorous affection that plays out within each of our ‘Gargantuan’ personalities.” Anselmo continues, “Both Warbeast and myself have full length LPs that will be released shortly after this is released, but this split is unique musically. It is a time capsule; a loud pause ‘til we both release our full length products. Enjoy the destruction of music!” Adds Warbeast guitarist Scott Shelby, “These two songs we have on ‘War of the Gargantuas’ were the next level after ‘Krush The Enemy. They’ve been a staple in our set list for the last two years. The world is covered in cobwebs and decorated by maniacal pumpkins, horror films possess every television channel and the forces of evil are finally let loose for once autumn night as children are encouraged to take candy from strangers. Halloween is awesome, and it meshes beautifully with heavy metal; as demonstrated by this suburban light show set to Ozzy Osbourne ‘s ‘Bark at the Moon.’ As one of Ozzy’s trademark hits, ‘Bark at the Moon’ is the opening track to Osbourne’s 1983 album of the same name. With hearts still mending after the death of iconic guitarist Randy Rhoads, ‘Bark at the Moon’ was the first track unveiled to the public with Jake E. Lee manning the six-string. Lee had massive shoes to fill, but he crafted a masterpiece of a track with some insane shredding added for good measure. There lies a house in Odessa, Texas, where ‘Bark at the Moon’ has come to life through a spectacular light show. Before the track kicks in, the epic philharmonic piece ‘O Fortuna’ hit its conclusion as Ozzy’s classic track takes over. The inhabitants of this spooky manor created the display to sync up with ‘Bark at the Moon,’ as Ozzy’s lyrics are sung by a disembodied pumpkin face on the left side of the home, as fog, tombstones, a giant illuminated spider web and even a giant inflatable Godzilla invade the rest of the Texas home. Roadrunner This year has been phenomenal when it comes to rock and metal music tours, and with 2012 coming to an end, the year will surely be remembered as one defined by many spectacular achievements. We’re going to miss 2012, but Gojira , Devin Townsend and the Atlas Moth have just put together a must see tour set to pummel the year 2013. Beginning Jan. 14, three of modern music’s most progressive and genre-bending acts will team up for a month long North American tour. Hot off the heels of their ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ album, Gojira are currently at the highest point of their career. Gojira’s latest record has opened their music up to a broader audience, creating one of the year’s greatest breakthrough accomplishments. Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier recently spoke with radio goddess Full Metal Jackie about touring with Devin Townsend and the Atlas Moth. “They’ve had an influence on us,” begins Duplantier, “the way we behave onstage, the way we play, they way we approach the whole thing, sometimes it’s purely technical like the way they plug in their gear. So we always learn something from touring with people that’s why I’m so happy to tour with Devin, he’s such an incredible singer – one of my influences actually and he’ll be opening for us [Laughs] how crazy is that? We’re all huge fans of Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, it’s a great honor to have him on tour.” Devin Townsend released ‘Epicloud’ this year, displaying a more omniscient and comforting sound in contrast to his heavier past. After a solid run with Katatonia and Paradise Lost, Townsend and his band will hit North America again very soon. Facebook: Black Veil Brides Good things come to those who wait, and 2013 is looking especially good for Black Veil Brides fans. In addition to their recent announcement that their new album would be arriving in January, the group has also revealed their first extended tour in support of the album. The band will hit the road for what they’re calling “The Church of the Wild Ones Tour” beginning Jan. 4 in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Café. The North American trek will be broken up into two legs, with the entire month of January filling the first leg and the second leg running Feb. 17-March 8. The group will announce their special opening act on Dec. 8, and info about the group’s ticketing and VIP packages will be announced shortly via their websites and social networking pages. Black Veil Brides recently announced that their latest effort, ‘ Wretched and Divine: The Story of the Wild Ones ,’ would arrive in stores in January. Pre-orders for the album are expected to start around Halloween. In addition to their 2013 touring, the band has booked an appearance at the California Metalfest in San Bernardino on Nov. 24. In our latest edition of ‘Tours You’d Be Insane to Miss,’ sludge metal heroes High on Fire are scheduled to embark on a North American trek with one of our personal favorites, Goatwhore , along with Columbus, Ohio natives Lo-Pan. As if that isn’t cool enough, Primate (who feature members of Mastodon and Brutal Truth) and Corrosion of Conformity will each be playing select dates of the trek. Phew, now that we’ve found a suitable change of undergarments, we’ll give you all the precious details. After a stint in rehab for alcohol issues, High on Fire frontman Matt Pike is back in action, with the trek kicking off Nov. 15 in Austin, Texas. The tour conclude in San Francisco on Dec. 22. Goatwhore and Lo-Pan will appear for all tour dates, while Primate (featuring Mastodon’s Bill Kelliher and Brutal Truth’s Kevin Sharp) will jump aboard from Nov. 23 – Dec. 1.
