Taproot’s Stephen Richards on Coincidence Between Medical Condition and Latest Album

Victory Records In our recent  in depth interview with Taproot  frontman Stephen Richards, he spoke candidly about his bout with seizures and how his medical issues have affected touring and his performance onstage. The band released their fifth studio album, ‘The Episodes,’ earlier this year, and Richards tells Loudwire that his health condition will likely influence the songwriting on Taproot’s future music releases. “I think from now on, unless they give me some miracle pill that fixed everything, it will definitely lend itself to upcoming material.” He goes on to speak about ‘The Episodes’ by saying, “The crazy thing is, this record we wrote in late 2006 early 2007 and then we put it on the back burner to release our fourth record, ‘Our Long Road Home,’ so we’ve been sitting on it for a while. We wanted to make sure we got it out and Victory Records was totally on board and really supportive of us.” Richards continues, “It’s kind of weird that literally at the beginning of the record is a guy waking up not knowing where he is and what the hell is going on, and then when we released the record I collapsed in the kitchen and woke up in a hospital around people I wouldn’t expect to see, not sure if I had made it through alive or what was going on. So it’s been kind of a trip with the parallel of my own situation personally. I’m just hoping I’m still alive and everything’s real. [Laughs]” Despite his condition, Richards out on the road with the rest of Taproot. Jack Osbourne Reveals Detailed Account of Aiding a Drowning Woman in Hawaii

? Ethan Miller, Getty Images Jack Osbourne ’s honeymoon in Hawaii recently turned into a rescue mission when he and his friend were called upon to help a woman who was drowning. Osbourne recently opened up about the incident on his Facebook page, filling in all the details. “On Oct. 8, I was approached by a family member telling me he had just seen a woman being pulled out of the water who’d drowned. I grabbed my friend Tyler who was a former Army operator and went to see if we could be of assistance,” Jack starts off. “In case you are not aware, I was a police reserve for 5 years and have had a lot of training in CPR and as a first responder. I am not an EMT or paramedic, but I have assisted in resuscitating individuals in the past.” That training would come in handy as Osbourne and his friend descended on the woman needing help. “When Tyler and I arrived on the scene, the woman was not conscious and had approximately five people assisting in an attempt to resuscitate her,” Osbourne explained. “A neurosurgeon from Japan had taken charge in trying to manage the chaos though she did not speak much English. The woman had a J-tube in her airway, and the defibrillator had already been used. Two women were assisting in chest compressions, and another was operating the Ambu bag.” From there the woman was transported from the beach on a spine board on a cart and Osbourne, his friend, and another good Samaritan rode with her to the front of the hotel and continued administering CPR along the way. The EMTs arrived minutes later and Osbourne delivered the woman into their capable hands. In response to what Osbourne referred to as some “oddly hostile and rather rude” comments made about him regarding the situation, Osbourne made it clear that he wasn’t claiming to be a hero of any kind, just helping someone in need. “As soon as the EMT’s arrived, I backed away and let them take over,” Osbourne recounts. “I never said I was the sole contributor in the rescue. In fact, I haven’t said anything at all. The last thing I want to do is take all of the credit when in fact there were a few people who helped save her life.” The good news is, the woman seems to be on the mend. “From what I’ve heard, she’s doing better and is now awake. I hope she has a speedy recovery,” Osbourne concluded. Osbourne’s full statement regarding the situation can be read on his Facebook page here . Rick Springfield on Working With the Foo Fighters: It Was a Great Experience

Kevin Winter, Getty Images / Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com The Foo Fighters may be on an indefinite hiatus , but with Dave Grohl’s upcoming documentary on the historic Sound City recording studio on the horizon, there are still some new Foo Fighters collaborations to look forward to. One of those songs includes a tune penned with Rick Springfield, who recorded his 1981 disc ‘Working Class Dog’ at the legendary studio. The Foo Fighters and Rick Springfield joined forces to write a song called ‘The Man Who Never Was’ which Springfield told Billboard is “a relationship song” inspired by a true tale from World War II. Springfield described working with the Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighers as a “great experience” saying, “They’re great musicians and I love their writing. And to actually write a song with them was fun.” So fun in fact that Springfield feels the song could be a true contender for a possible first single. “It came out really great,” Springfield said. “Butch Vig produced it with Dave, and they really felt the song came out great and we’re thinking it could be one of the lead-off songs for (the soundtrack).” With respect to Sound City, Springfield recorded many albums there throughout his career and can’t wait to see Grohl’s finished film. “Dave’s one of those guys with a deep musical history and really knows what happened there,” Springfield shared. “It’s going to be big. He’s got all these grand ideas, and he’s got the power now to do that kind of stuff. I think it’s a great idea.” Grohl’s Sound City documentary has been a year in the making and he has high hopes for it, saying, “it could be the biggest, most important project I’ve ever worked on.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/corey-taylor-working-with-dave-grohl-sound-city-documentary/” title=”Corey Taylor Dishes on Working With Dave Grohl for ‘Sound City’ Documentary” align=”center”]

Zakk Wylde Unveils Video Teaser For ‘Guitar Apprentice’ Instructional Video Series

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Zakk Wylde ’s new signature edition guitar instruction collection titled ‘Guitar Apprentice’ is now available exclusively at Guitar Centers in the U.S. as of Oct. 1 and now the leader of the Black Label Society has released a humorous clip to promote his rock ‘n’ roll lessons. Recorded live at Wylde’s on Black Vatican studio in Los Angeles, Calif. ‘Guitar Apprentice’ takes a song and methodically breaks it down to fifteen different levels of playing so anyone can follow along. Starting with one chord, users work their way up to playing all the guitar parts including all headbanging solos, but at their own pace. The set offers detailed explanations of all the details from signature rhythm patterns to tones and even pedals and gear. In the clip below Wylde barks out ‘This ain’t no video game!’ to the camera, but it actually was a video game that inspired the project. Wylde told MusicRadar.com that when the developers of the project approached him they asked him what he thought about the ‘Guitar Hero’ video franchise. “I said it was awesome,” Wylde said. “Who knows – you could have the next Jimmy Page or Dimebag or Yngwie coming out of that thing. Some kid starts out on that, and eventually he says, ‘Man, I want to get a real guitar.’ That’s what you want to happen. To me, anything that promotes the guitar is good.” Wylde also noted that this isn’t easy, so be prepared. “We’re talking from a very beginner to being about to play the solo to f—ing ‘Crazy Horse’,” Wylde explained. “And you can do it, too, but you have to put in the hours. You’ve got to practice and get your technique together. But it’s all there, man.” Head over to www.guitarapprentice.com for more information on the Zakk Wylde Signature Edition Guitar Apprentice.
