Deftones have been steadily moving up the charts in recent weeks and ‘Tempest’ is now knocking on the door to the top spot, moving up from No. 3 to No. 2. They flip-flop spots with former No. 1 act Volbeat, who slide down from No. 2 to No. 3 with ‘Heaven Nor Hell.’ Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow’ is also making strides toward the top of the charts, moving from No. 5 to No. 4 after a rapid ascent in recent weeks. And Young Guns make the biggest move on the charts this week, jumping up from No. 8 to No. 5 on the countdown. On the downward spiral, former No. 1 ‘Enemies’ from Shinedown slides six big notches from No. 14 to No. 20. This week also sees the debut of two new tracks. The ‘Sound City’ collaboration of Dave Grohl and Corey Taylor on ‘From Can to Can’t’ arrives at No. 18, with Soundgarden ‘s ‘By Crooked Steps’ one slot behind at No. 19. Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It would seem that with Foo Fighters on hiatus, we wouldn’t be hearing much from them, but that’s certainly not the case. Dave Grohl and the rest of the Foos rocked New York City last night (Feb. 13) as the primary backing band for the Sound City Players, a collection of acclaimed musicians who came together to celebrate Grohl’s new documentary and the storied music studio that the film chronicles. The concert last night featured several sets led by various artists, including such legends as John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Steve Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Also participating in the once-in-a-lifetime show were musicians like Nirvana ‘s Krist Novoselic and Rage Against the Machine ‘s Brad Wilk. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Halestorm have joined the ranks of Iron Maiden , Judas Priest , Foo Fighters , Metallica , Slayer , Rage Against the Machine and Slipknot among others in the metal and hard rock genres who can call themselves Grammy winners . But the reality of the situation is still setting in for drummer Arejay Hale. He tells Noisecreep , “We still don’t believe it. I’m still waiting for someone to tell us that we were punked. I know a lot of people get up there and say they’re shocked and didn’t expect to win, but I’m here to tell you, we were shocked and in no way did we expect to win! When you look at who we were up against, I know it’s hard to make sense of, and I think we may have been as surprised as everyone else.” The drummer adds, “Honestly, I thought Lamb of God would’ve won. What’s interesting is that they influenced the song we won for. We love Lamb of God, in fact all the other nominees are bands we grew up looking up to. There were such legendary artists in that category and maybe we’re just the ones that got picked to represent the new guard, but that’s not our call.” There have been some who’ve criticized the Grammys for rewarding the relative newcomers against their more veteran competition, but Hale has no problems with the haters questioning their victory. He explains, “I learned a long time ago that you have to embrace the hater, because it means that the band is getting bigger. Like Nickelback , I love them and I see people hate on them and all it says to me is that they have become massively huge, and what’s wrong with that? So if people have to take the time to say something hateful or mean for whatever reason, it means the band is growing more and more and that more fans are finding out about us and that’s a valuable thing.” Hale says after 16 years of playing music with his sister Lzzy , the Grammy serves as some sort of vindication that they made the right choice pursuing music as a career. Jason Merritt, Getty Images Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose and fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger may have a contentious past , but it appears that all is good between the two celebrities as the singer and his band turned up for a party in honor of Hilfiger’s new flagship store Wednesday night (Feb. 13). Blabbermouth.net reports that Rose and his band performed a special acoustic set for partygoers at the Soho House in West Hollywood. The evening also featured a performance from pop superstar Alicia Keys . The group played a nine-song set, which kicked off with ‘You’re Crazy’ and concluded with the band’s encore cover of Bob Dylan ‘s ‘Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.’ In between, GNR played such classics as ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine,’ ‘Patience’ and ‘Paradise City,’ as well as their cover of Neil Young ‘s ‘Don’t Let It Bring You Down.’ Guns N’ Roses recently announced their participation as headliners in both the Rocklahoma and Governors Ball festivals.
