Kevork Djansezian, Getty Images Tom Morello ‘s growing relationship with Bruce Springsteen continued in a major way Friday night (Feb. 8) in Los Angeles as the Rage Against the Machine guitarist was all over the set list for the MusiCares Person of the Year tribute to “The Boss.” Morello first appeared onstage with the legendary Jackson Browne , playing along to the Springsteen song ‘American Skin (41 Shots).’ He’d later return to join My Morning Jacket ‘s Jim James in performing a scorching version of ‘The Ghost of Tom Joad.’ The guitarist finished out the night playing three songs with Springsteen — ‘Death to My Hometown,’ ‘Thunder Road’ and ‘Born to Run’ — before the all-star finale on the song ‘Glory Days.’ Other highlights during the evening included the show opening ‘Adam Raised a Caine’ from Alabama Shakes , Mumford & Sons performing ‘I’m on Fire,’ Elton John delivering ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ and Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s rousing take on ‘Born in the U.S.A.’ Initial reports of the gala’s lineup suggested Eddie Vedder was also to be involved, but all reviews indicate that he was not part of the event. In addition to the show, there was a charity auction led by Springsteen in which the singer offered a number of personal items to help boost up the price on a signed guitar by many of the participants. According to NJ.com , as part of the Springsteen aided package, the winning bidder also got a one-hour guitar lesson, a ride in the sidecar of Springsteen’s Harley and one of the singer’s mother’s lasagnas. When all was said and done, the guitar with Springsteen’s extras fetched $250,000 for MusiCares. Taylor Hill, Getty Images He wasn’t the original Guns N’ Roses drummer, but Matt Sorum could definitely hold his own when it came to partying with his notoriously excessive bandmates. The drummer tells TMZ he had some good times over the years with drinking games, and he recalled his favorite in a video interview. Sorum says the game was called ‘Wear the Lamp Shade,’ and he describes it as follows: “You’d get drunk and do this shenanigans where you’d take the lamp shade off the top of the lamp and dance around with the lamp shade … usually I was naked and the next person you handed it to had to get naked.” The drummer says that it was fairly important that this game was played when there was an overabundant percentage of women to men in the room, thus making sure he’d see something he truly wanted to see. Though it’s been several years since his last major band Velvet Revolver did anything, Sorum has kept himself busy producing, recording with his other band Diamond Baby and playing drums will the all-star covers outfit Camp Freddy . He’s also been working on a solo album . Scott Gries, Getty Images Former Korn drummer David Silveria had a change of mind in his DUI case, deciding to plead guilty this week in exchange for a lesser charge. The musician was arrested last March for driving under the influence and committing a hit-and-run, but he claimed that extenuating circumstances were at play in making him seem as though he was driving under the influence. Silveria was pulled over by police on the morning of March 25 in Huntington Beach, Calif., but stated that he had not been drinking and blamed his driving woes on the after effects of a sleeping pill. The rocker claimed to have blown a 0.0 on the breathalyzer at the time he was pulled over, but the officers arrested him when he revealed he had taken a sleeping pill the night before. The drummer said he suffered from insomnia and did not realize the following morning that he was too exhausted to drive when he got behind the wheel. As he was heading to breakfast, Silveria reportedly rear-ended another vehicle. “It was an honest mistake,” said the drummer. In August, Silveria entered a “not guilty” plea , but according to TMZ , the musician changed his plea after the hit and run charge was dropped. As part of his punishment, the drummer was sentenced to three years of informal probation, and he must partake in a three-month first offender program and attend a M.A.D.D. victim impact panel. After leaving Korn, Silveria returned to music last year with the new band INFINIKA. Anna Weber / Carlos Muina / Karl Walter, Getty Images There were some eyebrows raised last year when Mastodon ‘s Troy Sanders and Soulfly ‘s Max Cavalera revealed they were working on a project together , and the anticipation level grew once it was revealed that Dillinger Escape Plan frontman Greg Puciato and The Mars Volta ‘s former drummer Dave Elitch were involved as well. With some time for the band to work through the specifics, Puciato has offered an update on their new album progress. He tells Noisecreep , “We have 11 songs written … We had a really easy time writing and we may actually be recording really soon, like in the next month or so. And then we’ll have to sit on it. We can’t release it right behind the Dillinger record and we also have to figure out when the Mastodon record is coming out and the same for whatever Max is doing next. It’s going to come out. It’s just going to be a matter of logistics as to when.” Puciato says the idea for the band came together when he was at a Deftones show in Los Angeles and started talking with Cavalera about their shared love for old thrash metal, punk and hardcore. He recalls, “We found ourselves referencing many of the same things and we were like, ‘F– man, we should make a record and do it together as a one-off like Nailbomb.” The Dillinger leader adds, “No one in metal makes collaborative records like people in jazz and hip-hop do. It doesn’t have to be like a band that you’re launching from the ground that you go on tour with. There is something to be said for collaboration and throwing yourself out there and learning something new from working with different people.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/the-dillinger-escape-plan-when-good-dogs-do-bad-things-top-21st-century-metal-songs/ ” title=”Next: Dillinger Escape Plan – Top 21st Century Metal Songs” align=”center”]
