Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Guitar great Mark Tremonti may have spent the tail end of 2012 engrossed in supporting his first solo album, but it looks like 2013 is all systems go for Alter Bridge . According to a tweet posted by Tremonti yesterday (Dec. 11), the Alter Bridge brain trust of singer Myles Kennedy , drummer Scott ‘Flip’ Phillips and Tremonti met up with their management in sunny Florida to plan the immediate future of the band. Although specific details were not disclosed, AlterBridge.com has confirmed that the band’s 2013 schedule includes a new album and a world tour. “Had a meeting today with Myles, Flip, our managers and myself. Starting to plan 2013!,” tweeted Tremonti , giving fans lots to be excited about. The only member seemingly missing was bassist Brian Marshall, who also had to duck out of touring with Tremonti earlier in the year citing personal reasons. The news probably comes as a relief to Alter Bridge fans, providing confirmation that the band is alive and well. With frontman Myles Kennedy currently out on tour providing vocals for Slash while Tremonti tours Europe through February with his solo side project, it’s been a busy time for everyone juggling multiple creative endeavors. Alter Bridge’s last studio offering was their third album, 2010’s ‘AB III.’ Tremonti has also been working on a new album with his longtime band Creed . Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Oh, the guitar face – that magical place that rockers slip off to when they’ve been totally consumed by a song and the music is in total control. While some guitarists and bassists have truly signature mugs when they rip into a song, others allow the mood of the music to uniquely fashion their fantastical facial expressions — leading to the notorious guitar face. One this for sure though, when the music takes over the faces are truly unforgettable. When the guitar is removed from the equation it offers up a whole new world of possibilities from pure exhilaration to downright carnal. Fernando Leon / Kevin Winter, Getty Images Wolfgang Van Halen was definitely thrown into the fire, being called upon to play bass for Tremonti a day before the band’s first show of their fall tour, but it looks like things are working out so well that his involvement will continue beyond their current trek. Mark Tremonti tells the Metal Shrine blog, “We’ve already talked about [recording] and we look forward to it. I think it’ll add a whole other element to this band.” The guitarist was very complimentary of his new bassist, who came on board after his longtime Creed and Alter Bridge cohort Brian Marshall had to exit to deal with some personal issues. Tremonti says of Wolfgang, “He’s a very positive person and good to be around and an incredibly talented musician. Things have been going well.” The guitarist says that things have a weird way of working out, and Van Halen’s entrance into the band was not the first time he was actually considered for the group. The guitarist says, “We had talked about having him being a part of the band early on, but Van Halen got back together and did a nine-month tour together and it was right in the window when we needed to do this, so we moved on without him. Eric Friedman tracked the bass on the record, and then we started touring and we had Brian Marshall playing bass with us, and then something came up at the last minute with Brian and it just so happened that Wolfgang was in town. I gave him a shout and he came right over and jumped on board.” In a recent video interview , Wolfgang admitted that even though he was a last minute addition to the lineup, he was definitely familiar with the music. The bassist says he was hanging out in New Jersey with Sevendust at the same time that Tremonti was tracking his disc, and got to know the band pretty well.
