Killswitch Engage to Play ‘Alive or Just Breathing’ in Full on 2012 North American Tour

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Only six months after the live return of vocalist Jesse Leach to Killswitch Engage , the band has announced that they will embark on a 2012 tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their landmark album ‘Alive or Just Breathing.’ During the monthlong North American tour, Killswitch will be playing the album in its entirety. Shadows Fall and Acaro will support the trek. Last month, it was revealed that Killswitch Engage would be headlining the 2012 California Metalfest, with the marquee announcement of their performance being that the band would be playing every song from ‘Alive or Just Breathing.’ Perhaps due to the immense fan reaction of both excitement and jealousy of fans who aren’t able to make it to California, Killswitch will now give fans across North America an opportunity to experience the 10-year-old album before the year is up. Killswitch Engage announced the news via their Facebook page accompanied by the words, “This is for all the fans.” The announcement came in video form, mixing film from 2002 (which gives an unexpected wave of nostalgia to those who remember the album’s release) with footage from 2012. The video continues to say, “‘Alive or Just Breathing’ 10 Year Anniversary Tour. Performing the entire record from beginning to end … with special guests Shadows Fall and Acaro,” before scrolling through the upcoming tour dates. “I honestly never thought I would have the opportunity to sing these songs on stage with Killswitch again,” says Jesse Leach in a press release. “Now here I am back in the band and celebrating 10 years of the release of this record. I am absolutely thrilled for this tour. I can’t wait to sing ‘Rise inside’ and ‘Just Barely Breathing’ among others. On top of it all, we have our good friends in Shadows Fall and Acaro joining us. This tour will be one we will all remember! ” Check out the announcement video and the full list of tour dates below. Rise Against Joined Onstage by Tom Morello + Members of Gaslight Anthem and MC5 in Anaheim

Trixie Textor / Ethan Miller / Ian Gavan, Getty Images Rise Against got a little help from a couple of friends for a star-studded rendition of the Bruce Springsteen  song ’The Ghost of Tom Joad’ in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday night (Sept. 29). Tom Morello , who has spent a good portion of the summer turning up at Springsteen concerts to perform his guitar mastery on the track, was one of the guests. Morello’s band, Rage Against the Machine , also recorded their own version of the song. Morello and Rise Against vocalist Tim McIlrath have found a lot of common musical and political ground in recent years. Rise Against played Rage Against the Machine’s L.A. Rising event last year, and both musicians have spent plenty of time rallying on behalf of unions at events in Wisconsin and immigrant rights in Arizona . Morello and McIlrath also recently appeared on Occupy movement theme song ‘ We Are the 99 Percent .’ Also joining in for the powerful performance were Gaslight Anthem singer Brian Fallon and MC5 ‘s Wayne Kramer. Gaslight Anthem has spent a fair amount of time touring with Rise Against this year, and are currently opening the band’s North American trek along with Hot Water Music . There are a handful of North American dates left this month before the band heads to South America in November for three shows. Gojira Unleash Music Video for ‘Explosia’ Featuring New York City Concert Footage

Roadrunner French metal masters Gojira have unleashed a punishing video for ‘Explosia,’ the opening track to the band’s 2012 full-length, ‘L’Enfant Sauvage.’ The performance featured in the ‘Explosia’ video was taken from Gojira’s recent performance at New York City’s Webster Hall on Aug. 14. American metalheads had been anxiously awaiting the return of Gojira, who were originally set to join Lamb of God and Dethklok on tour throughout North America. Unfortunately, due to Randy Blythe ‘s Czech incarceration, the tour was canceled much to the disdain of fans. To make up for these canceled dates, Gojira were able to play a small number of club shows before heading up to Canada for the Heavy T.O. and Heavy MTL festivals. The new video for ‘Explosia’ captures the pure heaviness of Gojira’s live performance, which was recounted by Loudwire in our coverage of Gojira’s Aug. 9 show at New York City’s Santos Party House. As our reporter noted, “If the overwhelming energy and aggression wasn’t enough to make to make the night a memorable one, the band’s chemistry onstage was undeniable as each member interacted and smiled face to face with fans.” Get ready for a pummeling of the senses as you check out Gojira’s video for ‘Explosia.’ Gojira, ‘Explosia’

Down Bring ‘Purple’ Passion to New York City With Stellar Performance

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire After Metal Masters 4 in New York, Phil Anselmo was back in the ‘Big Apple’ for an ass-kicking show with Down at the Best Buy Theater Friday night (Sept. 28). Support for the standout show included Saint Vitus, haarp and Warbeast . As the crowd started multiple “Down” chants, the band graced the stage and kicked off their performance with ‘Eyes South.’ They also went on to play a few new tracks from their latest disc ‘ Down IV Part I – The Purple EP ’ such as their single ‘Witchtripper,’ ‘Misfortune Teller’ and ‘Open Coffins.’ The crowd unleashed as they performed fan favorites like ‘Temptation’s Wings,’ ‘Lifer,’ ‘Ghosts Along the Mississippi,’ ‘Stone the Crow,’ and ‘Bury Me in Smoke’ among numerous others. Frontman Phil Anselmo exuded passion and vigor onstage as he looked fans eye-to-eye, transfixing their attention every step of the way. The force of the band onstage is a powerful one with the hard-hitting riffs of Pepper Keenan and Kirk Weinstein along with the deep bass lines of Pat Bruders and the thunderous percussion of Jimmy Bower behind the skins. Not to mention the chemistry between all of the members of Down onstage is infectious to say the least. Another band who was welcomed warmly by the East Coast crowd was Saint Vitus, who gave one hell of a performance as fans opened up a mosh pit and shook the foundation of the Best Buy Theater. To see metal legends like Saint Vitus onstage was quite a treat and watching lead guitarist Dave Chandler shred it up with his teeth was the cherry on top. Warbeast and haarp, who are part of Anselmo’s label Housecore Records, kicked off the night of metal goodness. To find out where you can catch Down and their tour mates, visit  here . Foo Fighters Play Last Show for a Long While at New York’s Global Citizen Festival

Theo Wargo, Getty Images It was a bittersweet moment Saturday night in New York’s Park as the Foo Fighters played an electrifying set at the Global Citizen Festival, but also made the announcement during the show that it will be their last performance for an indefinite period of time. Singer Dave Grohl told the audience, “We’re not making a big deal out of this, but this is it. We don’t have any more shows after this. This is it. We don’t have any ones after this. This is the show where we play as many songs as we can in a short period of time because honestly, I don’t know when we’re gonna do it again, but this is the perfect place to do it right now tonight.” The Foo Fighters did make the most of their set time, rocking through nine songs and keeping the energy high throughout. The performance opened with Grohl alone onstage with his guitar, relying on the audience for backup during the opening verses of ‘Times Like These’ before the rest of his band joined midway through to provide the frantic closing to the song. An impressive display of hard-rocking power followed, with ‘All My Life,’ ‘My Hero,’ and ‘Arlandria’ leading the way. The band did work in a few of their mid-tempo favorites like ‘Learn to Fly,’ ‘These Days,’ and ‘Walk’ before rounding out their performance with ‘Best of You’ and ‘Everlong.’ Grohl admitted being torn during the performance, stating, “I wish we could play all night … but I wanna see Neil Young .” He followed that with his announcement about it being the band’s final show for some time. For those worried about the future, it should be noted that Grohl made a similar statement to fans in the U.K. at the end of their overseas tour and then after commentary on the Internet hit a certain point buzzing that a hiatus was coming, Grohl posted his own response downplaying the hiatus talk . What this likely suggests is that the Foo Fighters have come to the end of their ‘Wasting Light’ touring cycle, and will take however much time is needed to re-energize before approaching their next disc. Grohl would later return to the stage, as he and the Black Keys ‘ Dan Auerbach would join headliners Neil Young for the all-star finale of ‘Rockin’ in the Free World.’ In addition to the two musicians, members of Foo Fighters, Band of Horses , and opening act K’Naan all grabbed every available microphone to provide backing vocals on the track. Josh Homme Single ‘Nobody to Love’ Rolls Over ‘End of Watch’ Credits

Lisa Maree Williams, Getty Images Those waiting for a new Queens of the Stone Age album will have to settle for the Josh Homme solo single titled ‘Nobody to Love’ for the time being. The track made a rather low-key debut late last week as it appeared over the closing credits of Jake Gyllenhaal-Michael Pena cop movie, ‘End of Watch.’ Antiquiet reported that Homme was breaking from the band’s current sessions back in July long enough to record the song for the film. The track was co-written with and also features producer Dave Sardy, who turns up with music throughout the soundtrack. Unfortunately, it does not feature on the commercial release of the  film’s soundtrack , but fans can still get it on the iTunes version . The track itself begins with the sound of piano keys, but eventually morphs into a more Homme-sounding cut with fuzzed-out bass and the singer’s dream-like delivery of the lyrics. The sorrowful track hits home with the chorus, “ There’s nobody to love / No pill’s gonna cure my ill .” Homme has been rather busy of late, also recording an unnamed  track with Queens for Amnesty International that will be part of a forthcoming release. In the process of revealing their involvement, Queens of the Stone Age also directed fans to read about the execution of Troy Davis and to join Amnesty International’s efforts dealing with human rights cases. Queens of the Stone Age scrapped their initial attempt at a record earlier in the year, but Homme and company returned to the studio in mid-August , posting a photo to let fans know that work had begun. Fozzy Joined by Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows in L.A. for Surprise ‘Sandpaper’ Performance

Jason Merritt / Adam Bettcher, Getty Images Fozzy treated Los Angeles fans to a show at the Roxy last night (Sept. 27). Right before the band began to play the single ‘Sandpaper’ from their latest album, ‘Sin & Bones,’ the crowd was surprised by Avenged Sevenfold singer M. Shadows , as he took the stage with Fozzy to perform guest vocals. Before jumping onstage with the band, M. Shadows was recruited to the studio by Fozzy to be featured on ‘Sandpaper’ as they were recording ‘Sin & Bones.’ With the help of M. Shadows, Fozzy’s ‘Sandpaper’ went undefeated in our Cage Matches, earning a retirement to the Cage Match Hall of Fame . There is also a ‘Evil Dead’-inspired music video for ‘Sandpaper,’ that features a cameo from M. Shadows, but it has yet to be released. Chris Jericho told us about the upcoming ‘Sandpaper’ video during our recent interview with the singer. “It kind of started from that and then we said, ‘What if we do a whole Evil Dead-type homage?’ And then we found this bad-ass cabin in the woods in Atlanta, and just everything kind of fell together from there. We found, right by the cabin, there was a civil war burial ground, and there was this creepy bridge that was near it, and the cabin couldn’t have been more perfect for what we were looking for.” Jericho continues, “We just filmed M. Shadows’ stuff too, so he’s going to be in the video. So I think it’s going to be something no one else has seen before. It’s very, very cool and it’s just what we wanted.” The A7X fan site Deathbat News also reports that Chris Jericho and M. Shadows got matching Jack-O-Lantern tattoos, as pictured below: Twitter: IAmJericho [button href=”http://loudwire.com/fozzy-chris-jericho-uproar-festival-sandpaper-more/” title=”Watch Loudwire’s Interview with Fozzy’s Chris Jericho” align=”center”] ?
