Mary Ouellette, shewillshootyou.com You voted, we tabulated and, in the end, Marilyn Manson had an incredibly decisive victory for Rock Album of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. The singer’s ‘Born Villain’ album took home a whopping 31.7 percent of the overall vote. ‘Born Villain,’ which featured the hit lead single ‘No Reflection’ and the follow-up tracks ‘Slo-Mo-Tion’ and ‘Hey, Cruel World …,’ led Manson to a landslide victory, with Stone Sour’s ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1′ being the closest competitor at just shy of 19 percent of the vote. The only other act to receive a double-digit percentage was Halestorm’s ‘The Strange Case Of …,’ which placed third with 14.5 percent of the final tally. Add in winning Loudwire’s Rock Video of the Year for ‘No Reflection’ and 2012 was a pretty good year for Manson. The musician will kick off 2013 on the road with Butcher Babies, continuing the promotion of the ‘Born Villain’ disc. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com In an incredibly close race that saw multiple lead changes throughout the entire voting process, Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi narrowly beat out Slipknot / Stone Sour singer Corey Taylor for Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. The legendary axe-man and master of the riff was diagnosed with cancer early in 2012, and although it stopped the majority of Black Sabbath’s tour dates, one thing it never stopped was Tony Iommi. Despite the lymphoma diagnosis, Iommi continued writing for Black Sabbath’s massively anticipated next album, ’13,’ laying down guitar lines that will surely blow us away once its released in June 2013. Congrats to Tony Iommi. For his bravery and dedication to heavy metal, fans have voted the Black Sabbath legend their 2012 Rock Titan of the Year. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Godsmack may be taking some time off , but that doesn’t mean that Sully Erna is slowing down any. The vocalist has just announced six new East Coast solo shows where he’ll continue to promote his ‘Avalon’ solo album. The trek launches March 22 at Atlantic City’s House of Blues and the performances are expected to not only include material from Erna’s solo album, but also tracks from throughout his career. Elektra Records Metallica fans have been patiently waiting, and today (Jan. 15) the band rewarded them with the news that their highly anticipated 3D concert movie will be titled ‘Metallica Through the Never.’ Plus, the group let it be known that the film will receive a theatrical release on Aug. 9. In a posting on their website, the band revealed that they’ve been working throughout the fall and into early 2013 with director Nimrod Antal and his team of editors to create the movie. They’ve also signed a deal with independent marketing and distribution company Picturehouse to bring it to theaters around the world. The band was impressed with the track record of Picturehouse founder Bob Berney, who had overseen the release of two of the biggest independent films ever — ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding’ and ‘The Passion of the Christ.’ The movie mogul recently re-entered the picture as the firm’s CEO and his first project in that role will be ‘Metallica Through the Never.’ Drummer Lars Ulrich stated the following on the band’s website: Metallica’s way of doing things is to jump into unexplored creative endeavors with no safety net whatsoever. Putting this movie together for the last couple of years has been a pretty wild ride, and we’ve definitely done our fair share of flying without a net! Bringing Bob and [Picturehouse President] Jeanne [Berney] and the new Picturehouse team in at this point provides us with a much-needed level of security for the distribution of the film. Their spirit of independence and desire to work outside the box is something we can relate to in every way and this makes them both a welcome addition and a natural fit in the Metallica family. Ulrich recently compared the film to Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Song Remains the Same,’ and also gave further details about the movie’s concept.
