Liz Ramanand, Loudwire It proved to be a two-man race for Best New Artist at the Loudwire Music Awards and former Hollywood Undead member Deuce emerged as the victor. The rap-rock artist enjoyed a breakout year with his first solo set, ‘Nine Lives,’ which spawned the hit single ‘America’ and such fan favorites as ‘I Came to Party’ and ‘Nobody Likes Me.’ Deuce received just over 38 percent of the vote, besting another musician stepping out on his own from familiar territory. Mark Tremonti’s finished second with just over 31 percent of the final tally, proving that the Creed and Alter Bridge guitarist could make good on his own. After Deuce and Tremonti, the next closest competitor was Falling in Reverse, who earned eight percent of the vote. Donald Bowers, Getty Images Vinnie Paul of Pantera and Hellyeah has captured the Drummer of the Year award in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. In what has been a storied career, 2012 proved to be one of Vinnie Paul’s landmark years for various reasons. The legendary stickman’s drumming appears on the Pantera track ‘Piss,’ which was released as a never-before-heard track on the 20th anniversary edition of ‘Vulgar Display of Power.’ The long lost tune won Metal Song of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. But it doesn’t stop there: Vinnie Paul delivered some crushing beats on ‘Band of Brothers,’ the latest album from his band Hellyeah. In the end, he dominated the competition with 37 percent of the vote for 2012 Drummer of the Year. Raise your shots of jack and get ‘Drink Drank Drunk’ in honor of Vinnie Paul. Congrats Vinnie! Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Six-string legend Slash experienced a strong 2012, capping it all off with a Loudwire Music Award for Guitarist of the Year. Every opponent Slash went up against in this category was a worthy one, to say the least, but after a hard-fought battle with Mark Tremonti for the award, Slash emerged victorious. In 2012, Slash released ‘Apocalyptic Love’ with Alter Bridge vocalist Myles Kennedy and backing band the Conspirators, capturing success thanks to his rabid fan base. Slash also made waves early in 2012 by not only receiving an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but facilitating a partial Guns N’ Roses reunion at the ceremony with various classic GN’R members joining the guitar god. Congratulations to Slash for his many achievements in 2012, which led him to win this award. The guitarist has been at the top of his game for several decades, and we wish him the very best in keeping his hot streak going strong in 2013. Photo by Ty Watkins Metal Band of the Year was one of the closest categories in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards, but during the final moments of voting, metalcore titans As I Lay Dying surged ahead to claim the win. As I Lay Dying took a comfortable lead over bands such as Anthrax and Machine Head early in the voting, but one band that they couldn’t quite shake was Lamb of God. After many lead changes made the possible result too close to call at times, As I Lay Dying fans rallied together and launched the band into a slick first-place finish, earning over 28 percent of the votes. Congratulations to your 2012 Metal Band of the Year champs, As I Lay Dying. Watch out for them in 2013 on a co-headlining tour with the Devil Wears Prada. Roadrunner Records Kudos to Stone Sour for winning Rock Band of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. In a heavily competitive heat, Stone Sour emerged as the victor with just over 23 percent of the final tally. The band’s big year was bolstered by their most ambitious release to date — ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1,’ which is only the first half of a two-part album project. Could that lead to a repeat victory in 2013? We’ll have to wait and see. As we stated, Stone Sour had a tough road to emerge as the victor. Halestorm gave them all they had, finishing second with close to 19.5 percent of the vote. With 10 nominees in the category, it speaks highly of the respect of the fan bases that only two of the competitors earned under five percent of the final sum. Congrats to Stone Sour for nabbing the honor of Rock Band of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. Epic In a category filled with incredibly strong and progressive competition, Lamb of God ran away with the votes for Metal Album of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. The band’s 2012 full-length, ‘Resolution,’ earned the victory, beating out Gojira’s ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ and Down’s ‘Purple EP’ by a healthy margin. Released on Jan. 24, 2012, ‘Resolution’ gave fans the entire year to absorb standout tracks such as ‘Desolation,’ ‘Ghost Walking’ and ‘The Number Six.’ Lamb of God brought massive strength with their brand of pure American metal, leading them to successfully snag a win for 2012 Metal Album of the Year. Congrats to the band for both the success of ‘Resolution’ and their ability to connect so deeply with metalheads worldwide.
