Top 20 Songs: Week of January 6-12, 2013

Ethan Miller / Theo Wargo, Getty Images The Loudwire Top 20 Countdown is back this week with a familiar face at No. 1. Shinedown ‘s hit song ‘Enemies’ is spending its third straight week on top and fourth week overall. With ‘Enemies’ still at No. 1, Avenged Sevenfold remain in a holding pattern at No. 2 with their quickly rising single, ‘Carry On.’ Meanwhile, Soundgarden ‘s slide out of the top five (they fall to No. 6 with ‘Been Away Too’) proved beneficial for three songs that all moved up a notch. All That Remains currently hold down the No. 3 position with ‘Stand Up,’ Volbeat scoot back up to No. 4 with ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ reaches its highest position yet at No. 5. Even though Soundgarden fell three notches, they weren’t the biggest dropper. That distinction goes to former Top 5 single ‘Standing in the Sun’ from Slash . It falls from No. 7 to No. 11 this week. The biggest risers belong to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light,’ Adelitas Way ‘s ‘Alive,’ Young Guns ‘ ‘Bones’ and Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow,’ all of which jumped up two spots this week. 3 Doors Down, Adelitas Way and Young Guns now hold down the No. 8-10 spots on the countdown, while Alice in Chains’ ‘Hollow’ leaps up from 18 to 16. This week’s chart also features the arrival of Hinder ‘s ‘Save Me,’ which lands at No. 18. Singer Adam Gontier Leaves Three Days Grace, Replaced by My Darkest Days’ Matt Walst

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Shocker alert! Frontman Adam Gontier has resigned from  Three Days Grace  just weeks prior to their upcoming co-headlining tour with Shinedown. The band has replaced Gontier with My Darkest Days singer Matt Walst for the trek. A brief posting at the band’s website reveals that Gontier has left the group effective immediately citing a health issue for his exit. The band’s bassist, Brad Walst, stated in a press release, “We were surprised and distressed by Adam’s sudden departure. We are however very excited for this upcoming tour and to have my brother Matt stepping in as lead singer.” Three Days Grace, with Matt Walst on vocals, are still on schedule to kick off their co-headlining tour with Shinedown on Feb. 1 in Moline, Ill. At present, the tour runs through March 30 in Fargo, N.D. No further info was given as to the health issue that led to Gontier’s exit. The news comes as a major surprise, as Three Days Grace are one of rock radio’s most successful bands over the past decade, and recently scored a chart-topping single with ‘Chalk Outline’ off their latest album ‘Transit of Venus.’ They’re currently heating up radio again with their new single ‘The High Road.’ The move also puts My Darkest Days ‘ future in a different perspective. The band revealed just last week that guitarist Sal Costa had left the group , but that they were beginning work on their next studio album. With Matt Walst jumping over to Three Days Grace in Gontier’s absence, it is not known how that will affect My Darkest Days. Three Days Grace have also posted audio of Matt Walst performing with the group to give an idea of what the singer switch will sound like. Three Days Grace, ‘Chalk Outline’ (In the Studio) – Exclusive Video Premiere

YouTube: Three Days Grace Three Days Grace are enjoying one of the biggest hits of their career with ‘Chalk Outline,’ and fans of the band will now have a chance to see how the song came together thanks to a new “in the studio” video that’s debuting exclusively here at Loudwire. The clip takes you up-close and personal with Three Days Grace as the band works among the stacks of speakers and soundproofing to get exactly the take that they want for their ‘Transit of Venus’ album (available at iTunes ). Neil Sanderson is keeping the beat behind the kit while Barry Stock and Brad Walst bob their headphone-covered heads as they lay down the crunchy riffs that have dominated radio over the past several weeks. Meanwhile, singer Adam Gontier alternates between hiding behind a pair of stacks and a microphone screen during the versus and being front and center for the camera during the chorus. ‘Chalk Outline’ has hovered at or near the top of most rock charts during its run this year and it recently cracked Loudwire’s  10 Best Rock Songs of 2012  list. The track is also currently one of the Rock Song of the Year candidates that fans can vote upon in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. Fans will be able to hear ‘Chalk Outline’ and many of the other great tracks from the ‘Transit of Venus’ album when the band teams up with Shinedown on their 2013 North American Tour. The first leg of dates  were revealed back in November, and the second leg of dates were just announced this week. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com In this week’s edition of the Loudwire Top 20 Countdown, there’s a new No. 1. Congrats to Shinedown , who make a big move from No. 3 to No. 1, leapfrogging Soundgarden to take the top spot with ‘Enemies’ off their ‘Amaryllis’ album. Soundgarden’s ‘Been Away Too Long’ may have to wait a little longer for countdown supremacy now that they’ve been surpassed by Shinedown, but their current hit is holding strong at No. 2. Last week’s chart topper, Stone Sour ‘s ‘Absolute Zero,’ slips back down the charts to No. 3, but still remains a favorite song at radio. Guitar great Slash and his band, featuring  Myles Kennedy , inch up one spot closer to the top of the charts, with ‘Standing in the Sun’ planting its flag in the No. 4 spot on this week’s countdown. Outside of the Top 5, Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip,’ Five Finger Death Punch ‘s ‘The Pride’ and 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light’ all tied for the major mover of the week, scaling up three spots apiece to numbers 10, 11 and 15 respectively. On the down side, Deftones ‘ ‘Tempest’ takes the biggest tumble falling from No. 11 to No. 14 on the Loudwire Top 20 Countdown. Plus, we’ve got a new debut this week from Adelitas Way , as their latest single ‘Alive’ announces its presence.
