Anthrax Tap Shadows Fall Guitarist Jon Donais to Fill Vacant Band Slot on Upcoming Tour

ESP Guitars / Megaforce Anthrax have not named a full-time replacement yet for exiting guitarist Rob Caggiano , but they will at least be covered for their upcoming tours. The band revealed that Shadows Fall guitarist Jon Donais will sit in with the band for their upcoming Fly Festival dates in India, the Soundwave Festival shows in a Australia and the group’s headlining slot on the  Metal Alliance trek in North America. Caggiano recently surprised fans by announcing his departure from Anthrax, stating he’d like to concentrate on producing and other studio work. With so many gigs on their 2013 itinerary, Anthrax acted swiftly to add Donais to their touring lineup “Jon is a bro and he’s a total f—ing ripper,” says Anthrax guitarist  Scott Ian of Donais. “I’ve worked with him twice on side projects and he tears it up. I’m excited to have him on my right burning up the stage with Anthrax. ’13′s gonna be a good year.” Donais expresses his excitement at the opportunity, adding, “I grew up on Anthrax. They’re the thrash scene, they’re one of the Big Four. I’d be crazy to not want to play with them. Initially, Rob called and told me he was leaving the band and asked if I’d be interested in filling in. Then Scott called me and everything fell into place.” The guitarist revealed that he’s also working closely with the man he’s replacing, as he and Caggiano are using Skype to work on solos and other guitar parts. “He’s being great,” reveals Donais. “I also have to give special thanks to my band [Shadows Fall] — Brian, Matt, Jason and Ed — who have been incredibly supportive and encouraged me to do this.” Shadows Fall, meanwhile, have t our dates scheduled from Jan. 26 through April 19. No word on who will be filling in for Donais on the block of dates that conflict with his stint on Anthrax’s trek. Testament, Overkill + More to Embark on 2013 Dark Roots of Thrash Tour

You will see this tour and you will like it ! Both Testament and Overkill successfully raided 2012 with awesome new albums, and luckily for thrash fans, the two bands have teamed up to create the must-see ‘Dark Roots of Thrash’ tour, beginning in January 2013. Many veteran thrash bands deserve the utmost respect when it comes to their accomplishments in 2012. Testament released their ‘Dark Roots of Earth’ album and toured extensively with Anthrax and Death Angel throughout the year; both the album and the tour were incredible well-received. Fellow thrash veterans Overkill unleashed their sixteenth studio album, ‘The Electric Age,’ in 2012 and embarked a mass of festival dates along with a monster tour with God Forbid . It’s only right that two of the greatest thrash acts outside of the ‘Big 4′ converge for a tour of mammoth proportions, taking along Arizona thrashers Flotsam and Jetsam along with Australian thrash metal act 4ARM. “It’s a thrill to announce our upcoming dates with Overkill and Flotsam and Jetsam,” says Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick . “It’s a tour that brings together three different metal bands from three different regions: West Coast, East Coast and Southwest. All three bands sound very different from one another yet are highly compatible. All have been around the block (and the world) a few times and all have managed to keep a sound that feels current. This tour will be a ‘must see’ for fans who remember the early days of thrash/speed metal as well as those whose age is younger than the genre itself.” Find out where you’ll be kicking in skulls by checking out the official tour dates below. ‘Dark Roots of Thrash’ 2013 Tour Dates: 01/30 – San Francisco, Calif. @ The Filmore (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 01/31 – Anaheim, Calif. @ House Of Blues (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/01 – Tempe, Ariz. @ The Marquee (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/02 – Hollywood, Calif. @ House Of Blues (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/04 – Albuquerque, N.M. @ Sunshine Theater (no Flotsam And Jetsam) 02/05 – Austin, Texas @ Emo’s 02/06 – Houston, Texas @ House Of Blues 02/07 – Dallas, Texas @ House Of Blues 02/09 – Atlanta, Ga. @ Masquerade 02/10 – Charlotte, N.C. @ The Fillmore 02/12 – Silver Spring, Md. @ The Fillmore 02/13 – Philadelphia, Pa. @ Trocadero 02/14 – New York, N.Y. @ Best Buy Theatre 02/15 – Huntington, N.Y. @ The Paramount 02/16 – Worcester, Mass. @ The Palladium 02/17 – Buffalo, N.Y. @ Town Ballroom 02/18 – Toronto, Ontario @ Phoenix Concert Theatre 02/20 – Cincinnati, Ohio @ Bogart’s 02/21 – Grand Rapids, Mich. @ The Intersection 02/22 – Milwaukee, Wis. @ The Rave 02/23 – Minneapolis, Minn. @ First Avenue 02/25 – Denver, Colo. @ The Summit Music Hall 02/26 – Salt Lake City, Utah @ In The Venue 02/27 – Reno, Nev. @ Knitting Factory 02/28 – Sacramento, Calif. @ Ace Of Spades

30 Seconds to Mars on New Album: ‘This Could Be The Best Thing That We’ve Ever Done’

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com 30 Seconds to Mars were a surprise name when the lineup for next summer’s Download Festival was revealed, which suggests that the group who played an ungodly amount of shows for their ‘This Is War’ album have returned to work on their next release. Singer Jared Leto told BBC’s Radio 1 that the group got past the fragile nature of their union as they started to burnout toward the end of the last album’s tour support and he feels that are now back on the path to something great. The vocalist explained, “It’s stronger, better and more evolved. It’s a complete transformation for us.” As for that new record, which they’ve managed to keep somewhat quiet, the vocalist adds, “I really think that this could be the best thing that we’ve ever done.” The group has spent time in Asia, Europe and America recording tracks for the forthcoming release. Leto, who also has a solid acting career, has taken advantage of his time off the road to work in another movie. According to the Hollywood Reporter , the actor will portray a “flamboyant cross-dresser with HIV” who helps a Texas electrician (Matthew McConaughey) smuggle alternative drugs into America to help other AIDS patients in ‘The Dallas Buyer’s Club.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/30-seconds-to-mars-the-kill-top-21st-century-hard-rock-songs/” title=”Next: 30 Seconds to Mars – Top 21st Century Hard Rock Songs” align=”center”]

Machine Head Banned From Orlando, Florida ‘House of Blues’ by Walt Disney Company

Roadrunner Machine Head are currently on tour with Dethklok , All That Remains and the Black Dahlia Murder . With a lineup that is sure to both draw and excite metalheads, one unfortunate part of the United States is going to miss out on the full show, as Machine Head have been banned from ever performing on property owned by the Disney corporation. Thus, the Orlando, Fla. stop of the tour on Dec. 4 will be Machine Head-less. In 2007, Walt Disney Properties banned Machine Head from the ‘House of Blues’ venues in both Anaheim, Calif., and Orlando, the respective cities that are home to Disneyland and Disney World. Machine Head were banned by the company to due the band’s “violent imagery,” “inflammatory lyrics” and the group’s “undesirable fans.” These accusations come from the company that created ‘The Lion King,’ which features antagonist Scar plunging his claws into his brother Mufasa’s paws before allowing him to fall from a cliff only to be trampled to death by a heard of wildebeest. Disney also included the song ‘Savages’ in the film ‘Pocahontas,’ where the character Ratcliffe sings the lyrics, “They’re savages! / Barely even human … Dirty redskin devils,” about Native Americans. “Violent Imagery?” Check. “Inflammatory lyrics?” Massive check. Additionally, the entertainment company was happy to allow Motorhead to write the song ‘Dog-Face Boy’ for the animated film ‘Bolt,’ surely in an attempt to appeal to those same “undesirable fans” and lure them into movie theaters worldwide. The band released the following statement regarding the continuation of the Disney ban: For the third time in a row, the corporate powers behind Walt Disney Properties have once again pressured promoter Live Nation into canceling Machine Head’s performance at a House of Blues venue on Disney property, this time the December 4th show in Orlando, FL. While no one is willing to provide evidence that would prove unfavorable to Disney, sources close to events have suggested that Machine Head remains on a “banned list”, and while Dethklok, All That Remains and Black Dahlia Murder will still be allowed to play, the corporate powers at Disney have refused to allow Machine Head to perform. In 2007, Walt Disney Properties banned Machine Head from the House Of Blues venues in both Anaheim and Orlando, citing “violent imagery”, “inflammatory lyrics” and most appallingly “undesirable fans” as the reason. The diversity-impaired corporation began pressuring the promoter with vague threats of liability and reduced job security before placing Machine Head under an internal “review process”. Five days later, Walt Disney Properties would convey their alarming decision to the band, less than 48 hours before the first date of 2007′s anti-war, anti-religion, anti-conservative-themed “The Blackening” album headline run at the House Of Blues in Anaheim, CA. A stunned Machine Head announced the details and disgust regarding the situation and let fans know of the then-rescheduled show 70 miles away at The Glass House in Pomona. In retaliation for that public announcement, Disney cancelled the band’s then-upcoming performance at the House Of Blues in Orlando, citing the same absurd reasons, though they would only publicly state that they had “changed musical formats” at the venue. Machine Head wish to once again extend their gratitude to Live Nation and the House Of Blues for their poise and tolerance throughout these ridiculous developments, unbelievably transpiring here in these United States Of America in this year 2012. As they are not on Disney property and therefore not subject to the corporation’s alleged coercionary tactics, the current dates with Dethklok, All That Remains and The Black Dahlia Murder at the Dallas and Houston House Of Blues will go on as scheduled. Unfortunately, Machine Head’s Florida performance will not be rescheduled in an effort to avoid creating any conflict with the existing dates on the tour. All refund requests will be honored. Machine Head assure fans that all refund requests for the Dec. 4 show will be honored.
