Coheed and Cambria + Between the Buried and Me Team Up for 2013 North American Tour

Michael Buckner, Getty Images / Liz Ramanand, Loudwire New York alternative and progressive rock band Coheed and Cambria have just announced a 2013 U.S. headlining tour with Between the Buried and Me + Russian Circles as support. Coheed and Cambria are hitting the road to promote their upcoming full-length album, ‘The Afterman: Descension,” which will hit stores on Feb. 5. The album acts as the follow-up to the band’s 2012 album, ‘The Afterman: Ascension.’ Between the Buried and Me are currently at an extremely high point, having just released ‘The Parallax II: Future Sequence,’ which we gave a rare perfect five-star review . Much like Coheed’s release, ‘The Parallax II’ is also a follow-up record, which continues the story that began with ‘The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues’ EP. Chicago-based instrumental act Russian Circles are a fitting opening act for the tour, combining progressive rock and metal in the vein of both Coheed and BTBAM. Gojira, Devin Townsend + The Atlas Moth to Embark on 2013 North American Tour

Roadrunner This year has been phenomenal when it comes to rock and metal music tours, and with 2012 coming to an end, the year will surely be remembered as one defined by many spectacular achievements. We’re going to miss 2012, but Gojira , Devin Townsend and the Atlas Moth have just put together a must see tour set to pummel the year 2013. Beginning Jan. 14, three of modern music’s most progressive and genre-bending acts will team up for a month long North American tour. Hot off the heels of their ‘L’Enfant Sauvage’ album, Gojira are currently at the highest point of their career. Gojira’s latest record has opened their music up to a broader audience, creating one of the year’s greatest breakthrough accomplishments. Gojira frontman Joe Duplantier recently spoke with radio goddess Full Metal Jackie about touring with Devin Townsend and the Atlas Moth. “They’ve had an influence on us,” begins Duplantier, “the way we behave onstage, the way we play, they way we approach the whole thing, sometimes it’s purely technical like the way they plug in their gear. So we always learn something from touring with people that’s why I’m so happy to tour with Devin, he’s such an incredible singer – one of my influences actually and he’ll be opening for us [Laughs] how crazy is that? We’re all huge fans of Devin Townsend, Strapping Young Lad, it’s a great honor to have him on tour.” Devin Townsend released ‘Epicloud’ this year, displaying a more omniscient and comforting sound in contrast to his heavier past. After a solid run with Katatonia and Paradise Lost, Townsend and his band will hit North America again very soon. For those unfamiliar with the Atlas Moth, the Chicago-based sludge band have been trudging forward since 2007, releasing two full-length albums and two EPs since their inception. Keep these guys on your radar, because they’ve got the talent to create an incredibly accomplished future. Check out the tour dates for Gojira, Devin Townsend and the Atlas Moth’s 2013 tour below. Killswitch Engage to Play ‘Alive or Just Breathing’ in Full on 2012 North American Tour

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Only six months after the live return of vocalist Jesse Leach to Killswitch Engage , the band has announced that they will embark on a 2012 tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their landmark album ‘Alive or Just Breathing.’ During the monthlong North American tour, Killswitch will be playing the album in its entirety. Shadows Fall and Acaro will support the trek. Last month, it was revealed that Killswitch Engage would be headlining the 2012 California Metalfest, with the marquee announcement of their performance being that the band would be playing every song from ‘Alive or Just Breathing.’ Perhaps due to the immense fan reaction of both excitement and jealousy of fans who aren’t able to make it to California, Killswitch will now give fans across North America an opportunity to experience the 10-year-old album before the year is up. Killswitch Engage announced the news via their Facebook page accompanied by the words, “This is for all the fans.” The announcement came in video form, mixing film from 2002 (which gives an unexpected wave of nostalgia to those who remember the album’s release) with footage from 2012. The video continues to say, “‘Alive or Just Breathing’ 10 Year Anniversary Tour. Performing the entire record from beginning to end … with special guests Shadows Fall and Acaro,” before scrolling through the upcoming tour dates. “I honestly never thought I would have the opportunity to sing these songs on stage with Killswitch again,” says Jesse Leach in a press release. “Now here I am back in the band and celebrating 10 years of the release of this record. I am absolutely thrilled for this tour. I can’t wait to sing ‘Rise inside’ and ‘Just Barely Breathing’ among others. On top of it all, we have our good friends in Shadows Fall and Acaro joining us. This tour will be one we will all remember! ” Check out the announcement video and the full list of tour dates below. Down Make Theatrical Fright Film With ‘Witchtripper’ Video

YouTube Down ‘s video for ‘Witchtripper’ is more like an old school, black & white, occult horror movie than it is a music video. You know what that means? It’s much more fun than your average metal video. The clip opens with a coven of cloaked ladies aka witches tossing eyeballs and other items like chicken feet into a cauldron and then burying nooses, hands and more in the sand. We’re not sure what they are doing or why, and it’s probably best not to ask. It’s intriguing nonetheless and we couldn’t look away. Overall, the video has a bit of a ‘Night of the Living Dead’ vibe with the grainy way it’s filmed. The fact that a muscular metal song provides the sound, as opposed to dialogue, makes it that much more ominous. But it also has a bit of camp to it, too. The Down boys are having fun while paying homage to a genre they clearly love. Several occult symbols, like pentagrams, are featured, throughout, too. The entire band factors into the plot, with frontman Philip Anselmo as Magus, wearing eyeliner and a wig. We can’t do it justice, especially if you a horror buff (like Anselmo is) with an eye for detail. Just watch it and come up with your own conclusions about the plot and the nefarious goings on! ‘Witchtripper’ appears on the just-released ‘Down IV, Part 1 – The Purple EP.’ You can read our review of the EP here .
