While some guitarists and bassists have truly signature mugs when they rip into a song, others allow the mood of the music to uniquely fashion their fantastical facial expressions — leading to the notorious guitar face. One this for sure though, when the music takes over the faces are truly unforgettable. When the guitar is removed from the equation it offers up a whole new world of possibilities from pure exhilaration to downright carnal. Christopher Polk / Carlo Allegri, Getty Images Green Day may be off the road due to Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s rehab stint , but the group is finding plenty of other ways to remain in the spotlight. One of them will happen on Oct. 19, when the group’s music is used to soundtrack an episode of the CBS crime drama ‘CSI: NY.’ According to the band’s website , songs such as ‘Stop When the Red Light Flashes,’ ‘Amy,’ ‘Night Life,’ ‘The Forgotten,’ and ‘Kill the DJ’ will help tell the story of the episode. In the episode itself, Lindsay (Anna Belknap) is injured while trying to stop the attempted murder of a political candidate. CSI: NY executive producer Pam Veasey states, “My ultimate goal was to tell a story without dialogue, and Green Day’s music and lyrics beautifully accompanied the visuals making it a very special episode.” The band stated, “We were stoked when we found out ‘CSI: NY’ wanted to use our music instead of dialogue to narrate the first few acts of the episode. It’s the first time something like this has been done on the series, and we are blown away with what we’ve seen.” ‘CSI: NY’ airs Fridays on CBS at 8PM ET/PT. In a recent interview with Radio Metal , Slipknot / Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor recalls the time he was asked to contribute vocals to Anthrax’s critically acclaimed 2011 album ‘Worship Music’ prior to the thrash metal veterans’ reunion with singer Joey Belladonna. A few years back, Anthrax vocalist Dan Nelson departed the band after ‘Worship Music’ was recorded. It was then assumed that John Bush would re-record the vocals on the album, but he ended up parting ways with the band, as well. ‘Worship Music’ ended up being re-recorded with Belladonna handling vocals and reworking some of the lyrics from the scrapped version. However, prior to the Belladonna reunion, Taylor was asked to help out, but his record label wouldn’t let him. “I didn’t record anything with Anthrax, actually,” Taylor explains. “It’s one of those things that I would have loved to do, but never had the chance to do it. When they sent me some riffs and some music they had done, I thought it would be fun, not only as a friend but as a fan too, to see where the demos could go after my involvement.” Taylor continues, “But my label forced me out of this project so I wasn’t able to do it. Then, I went to do [ Slipknot ‘s] ‘All Hope Is Gone’ and Anthrax called Joey Belladonna back. After hearing ‘Worship Music’, I really think it’s their best record. Although I didn’t record anything with them, I told them that I would love to help them in writing stuff in the future. …At first, I was really mad about it, but I let it go after a while. But it would have been interesting to see what Anthrax and I could have done, for sure.” In the same interview, Taylor talks Stone Sour ‘s upcoming album, ‘ House of Gold & Bones Part 1 ? (due Oct. 22) and its follow-up ‘Part 2′ (due in 2013). “We had a lot of fun doing this,’ remarks Taylor. “Part Two is a wonderful difference from Part One: it wasn’t just getting together and re-recording some stuff on Part One. I’m really excited about it: the songs we’ve written are above the best stuff we’ve ever made and can’t wait for people to hear it all put together.” Stone Sour recently released a snippet of the track ‘The Travelers, Pt. 1.’ Listen below. Karl Walter, Getty Images Iron Maiden guitarist Steve Harris is working in a solo album between his regular band duties, and Harris assures the quality of the disc will be up to par as these songs were not leftover Iron Maiden tracks. In the November edition of Decibel magazine (excerpted by Blabbermouth ), Harris explains, “This is not throwaway Maiden stuff. These are not riffs that I could’ve used in Maiden because, like I said, it was done with other people. As soon as that happens, it’s not gonna be used in Maiden.” The guitar great adds, “I’ve got ridiculous amount of ideas that I’m probably never gonna get out the door in my lifetime. There’s no shortage of ideas for Maiden. And this stuff is different, anyway. It’s more heavy rock than heavy metal, but to me the influences are all from the well.” Harris, who is using the title ‘ British Lion ‘ for his disc, says the effort has been in the works since 1993, but because of his extended involvement in Iron Maiden, he’s never really had much time between discs to work on it. He laughs, “It’s been so long, it’s ridiculous. I’m just so relieved to get this thing out, really, because it’s finally there. I’m really pleased with the results, but it’s taken a long while.” The guitarist says that when Iron Maiden hasn’t been touring and recording, he’s often taken the lead on things like video editing that help fill the time between records, so his time left over to record his own music has always taken a back seat. “I get a lot less downtime than the others,” says Harris. “That’s why it’s taken so long, really. Photos of the happy couple can be seen on Riley’s Tumblr account . Thomson has enjoyed the fall months after a busy summer out on the road with Slipknot. Not only did the group headline the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival , but they also put together their inaugural two-destination Knotfest event. Having toured Europe and North America over the last two years while celebrating the memory of late bassist Paul Gray , the band members appear to be getting closer to making their musical return. The group also issued their ‘ Antennas to Hell ‘ greatest hits package. Corey Taylor , who had been one of the more reluctant members when it came to discussion of continuing without Gray, recently confirmed that the group had been putting together demos for their fifth album. However, no timetable has been given for the recording and release of the disc. Slipknot recently were confirmed as one of the headliners for the 2013 Download Festival . Amy Sussman, Getty Images Legendary Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne is set to appear on the CBS daytime program ‘The Talk,’ which is co-hosted Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne . The Oct. 9 appearance is scheduled to celebrate Sharon’s 60th birthday and will feature appearances by family members, friends and some unique surprises. Along with ‘The Prince of Darkness,’ confirmed guests for Sharon Osbourne’s televised 60th birthday celebration include daughter and co-host of ‘Fashion Police,’ Kelly Osbourne, as well as Nick Cannon from ‘America’s Got Talent,’ on which Sharon has acted as one of its three judges. You may remember Sharon Osbourne’s on-air breakdown over her son Jack Osbourne earlier this year while co-hosting ‘The Talk.’ Jack had just been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and was soon invited as a guest on ‘The Talk’ to speak candidly about his condition. Jack Osbourne has not been officially confirmed to appear on ‘The Talk’ for his mother’s 60th birthday celebration, but since surprises have been promised by CBS, he very well may drop by. Sharon Osbourne’s ‘Fabulous 60th Birthday Extravaganza’ will air on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
