Black Sabbath Legend Tony Iommi Joins the National Guitar Museum Board of Advisors

Robert Cianflone, Getty Images Black Sabbath guitarist and master of the riff Tony Iommi has been welcomed into the National Guitar Museum Board of Advisors. Iommi strives to help preserve the legacy of the guitar through the traveling institution, which will showcase its unique exhibit in six different cities between now and September 2015. The National Guitar Museum ‘s traveling instillation, ‘Guitar: The Instrument That Rocked the World,’ launched its first show in 2011, proclaiming the guitar as “The Most Popular Instrument. Ever.” As metal music’s most important six-string strummer, Tony Iommi is a natural fit to bring additional credibility to the museum and exhibit. “I welcome the opportunity to be part of the National Guitar Museum’s goal to highlight the history of the guitar — the instrument that has been part of my life since I was a teenager,” states Iommi. “There is so much more to the guitar than six strings and a slab of wood. Everything about it is fascinating, from how it is crafted to the legion of people who have played it.” Adds HP Newquist, executive director of the NGM, ”Tony is one of the most important rock guitarists to ever pick up the instrument. His guitar playing has defined the sound of heavy metal for more than four decades, and he has influenced countless thousands — if not millions — of players. Tony’s also had a huge affect on the instrument itself, from establishing the Gibson SG as an iconic guitar on to his own innovations in pushing the boundaries of string and pickup technology.” Iommi has joined a legendary group of guitarists already on the museum’s Board of Advisors, including Steve Vai, Ritchie Blackmore ( Deep Purple , Rainbow), Johnny Winter, Joe Bonamassa, Steve Howe (Yes), Liona Boyd, Pat Kirtley and Pete Huttlinger. Once the National Guitar Museum completes its string of instillations, one U.S. city will be named the permanent home of the Museum. Meanwhile, Tony Iommi is currently competing for Rock Titan of the Year in the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards. Place your vote here . Dee Snider to Be Roasted by Zakk Wylde, Scott Ian + More at 2nd Annual ‘Rock & Roll Roast’

Ethan Miller (3), Getty Images Outspoken Twisted Sister vocalist Dee Snider will have the tables turned on him on Jan. 24 when he becomes the subject of the 2nd Annual ‘Rock & Roll Roast’ taking place in Anaheim, Calif. The musician will be lovingly skewered by peers such as Zakk Wylde , Anthrax ‘s Scott Ian and Lita Ford , as well as several comedians and celebrities. Penn Jillette, a veteran of ‘ Celebrity Apprentice ‘ alongside Snider and half of the comedy-magic duo Penn & Teller, will serve as the roastmaster for the evening. In addition, Snider will endure a few barbs from WWE wrestler Mick Foley, ‘That Metal Show’ hosts Eddie Trunk and Jim Florentine and comedians Jim Norton and Craig Gass. Wylde, who will be part of the dais for this event, was the subject of last year’s roast and in effect, will get to deliver some comedic payback to some of the returning roasters. Snider is also keen on the idea of payback, stating about the upcoming roast, “Roasters remember: P.A.M.F. Payback’s A Mutha f—er!” The event will be taped and will air on AXS TV at midnight ET / 9PM PT Jan. 24. A portion of the proceeds from the ‘Rock & Roll Roast’ will benefit the MusiCares organization, which aids in the financial assistance and addiction recovery programs of musicians in need. In addition to jabs about “lapel pins on uniforms” and “electric twangers,” as referenced in Twisted Sister’s most popular videos, the dais will have lots of material to harp on. Snider released his ‘Shut Up and Give Me the Mic’ autobiography in early 2012. He’s also appeared on such reality shows as ‘Gone Country,’ ‘Rock the Cradle’ and ‘Growing Up Twisted’ on top of his past and upcoming ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ appearances. And he also released an album of show tunes called ‘Dee Does Broadway.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/twisted-sister-jay-jay-french-trademark-law-doesnt-offer-choice-what-to-defend/” title=”Next: Twisted Sister’s Jay Jay French Discusses Defending the Band’s Trademark” align=”center”]

Mastodon Writing Music for Summer 2013 ‘Monsters Inc.’ Prequel

Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Getty Images Mastodon have the wheels in motion for their follow-up to ‘The Hunter’ album, but at least one of their forthcoming songs (and perhaps more) may have a more child-friendly slant that the rest of their material. That’s because the group is reportedly working on music for the upcoming ‘Monsters Inc.’ prequel, ‘Monsters University.’ The band revealed the news in a Facebook posting (which appears to have since been removed), as reported by Metal Injection . The movie itself is set 10 years prior to the hit Pixar film, which debuted back in 2001. It follows the story of Sulley and Mike as they attend school and plan their future careers. The movie is set for a June 21 release next summer. Mastodon did not elaborate beyond the fact that they were “writing and recording a song for the new ‘Monsters, Inc.’ movie,” but the timing appears to be right as Brent Hinds recently revealed that the group has already started writing and coming up with ideas for their next album. The group has prior experience working in the animation field, penning the track ‘Cut You With a Linoleum Knife’ for the ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters.’ You can watch their ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force’ contribution below. Samir Hussein, Getty Images These days, it seems as if you haven’t truly arrived until you’ve been awarded your very own SiriusXM show — so congratulations to Pearl Jam ‘s Eddie Vedder , who will kick off his brand new satellite radio series tomorrow (Dec. 5). Descriptively dubbed ‘The Eddie Vedder Radio Show,’ Vedder’s new program will air on SiriusXM’s Pearl Jam Radio channel, and is being presented in what the network is calling a “limited run.” According to a press release, episodes will find Vedder spinning “many of his all-time favorite songs, from early punk rock influences to unreleased material from his personal archives.” “Eddie has been the voice of a generation and a voice with a conscience and we are happy to have him take up residence here to do his own show,” said SiriusXM president and COO in a prepared announcement. “Eddie’s record collection could tell some stories all by itself, let alone with Eddie at the helm; we know our listeners will enjoy hearing this one.” The report comes amid a flurry of Pearl Jam news, including word that the band is deep into preparations for its next album, the follow-up to 2009′s ‘Backspacer’ although according to bassist Jeff Ament , there aren’t any concrete plans for 2013. While they take their time working on new material, it’s nice to know Vedder will be using his spare time to keep entertaining the fans. Ozzy Osbourne on Black Sabbath’s New Album: ‘What It Boils Down to Now Is the Music’

Jeff Gross, Getty Images The members of  Black Sabbath may not be the rock miscreants they were in their 20s, but Ozzy Osbourne is fine with that, as it’s brought the group back to what initially mattered to them in the first place — the music. Osbourne spoke with the New Zealand Herald about the differences between the Sabbath of old and what’s happening now and how age has brought some perspective. The vocalist says, “What’s different now is that none of us get drunk or stoned or any of that stuff. We’re all clean and all in control of ourselves. We’re not intimidated by each other. There are no arguments, and it’s the way [that] it should be. But when we were kids, we had egos. When you’re 21 and you get some success it takes a while to get your head around it.” Osbourne explains that the egos, the spoils of success, the alcohol and drugs, the groupies and everything else that comes with being in a successful rock band is hard enough for just one person to deal with, but having survived all that, he’s happy to be rocking again with his longtime friends. “We’ve done it all,” says Osbourne. “So what it boils down to now is the music — and that’s what got us where we are in the first place. We have come through the other side, we’re still able to work together, and that’s where the enjoyment comes from. It’s been a lot of fun making this record.” The singer says, “It’s been more than 30 years since I really worked seriously with the guys. We had a try a few years back but nothing really came of it. But for some reason the timing is right and we’ve done about 15 songs.” At present, the band is eying an April 2013 release for their new studio album. Osbourne concludes, “Black Sabbath is very unique in the respect that nothing is formulated. It’s very unpredictable. I just hope the people who have waited all these years aren’t disappointed.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/black-sabbath-continue-recording-new-album-reveal-vinyl-box-set-details/” title=”Next: Black Sabbath Detail Vinyl Box Set” align=”center”]
