Ozzy Osbourne ‘Bark at the Moon’ Halloween Light Show Terrorizes Texas Neighborhood

YouTube: OdessaWest The pagans who came up with Halloween deserve to be praised as saints. The world is covered in cobwebs and decorated by maniacal pumpkins, horror films possess every television channel and the forces of evil are finally let loose for once autumn night as children are encouraged to take candy from strangers. Halloween is awesome, and it meshes beautifully with heavy metal; as demonstrated by this suburban light show set to Ozzy Osbourne ‘s ‘Bark at the Moon.’ As one of Ozzy’s trademark hits, ‘Bark at the Moon’ is the opening track to Osbourne’s 1983 album of the same name. With hearts still mending after the death of iconic guitarist Randy Rhoads, ‘Bark at the Moon’ was the first track unveiled to the public with Jake E. Lee manning the six-string. Lee had massive shoes to fill, but he crafted a masterpiece of a track with some insane shredding added for good measure. There lies a house in Odessa, Texas, where ‘Bark at the Moon’ has come to life through a spectacular light show. Before the track kicks in, the epic philharmonic piece ‘O Fortuna’ hit its conclusion as Ozzy’s classic track takes over. The inhabitants of this spooky manor created the display to sync up with ‘Bark at the Moon,’ as Ozzy’s lyrics are sung by a disembodied pumpkin face on the left side of the home, as fog, tombstones, a giant illuminated spider web and even a giant inflatable Godzilla invade the rest of the Texas home. Check out this awesome light show and raise your horns to this Ozzy-fied Halloween house. Watch the Ozzy Osbourne ‘Bark at the Moon’ Halloween Light Show

Stone Sour Construct House-Like Packaging for New Albums

Roadrunner Leave it to Corey Taylor to go big with his latest vision. The Stone Sour singer just continued his dedication to the ambitious ‘ House of Gold & Bones ‘ double-album by introducing intricate packaging for the two releases, which when put together forms the shape of a house. Fans will be able to get the first part this week when ‘House of Gold & Bones, Pt. 1′ arrives in stores, but it will take the second part, which isn’t due until next spring, to complete the house-shaped packaging. While we have to wait to construct the full ‘House of Gold & Bones,’ Stone Sour has posted a trailer to show their fans how it will all fit together. The clip can be seen below. On top of the double disc, fans can look for a four-issue comic book . The comic book series debuts April 17, 2013 through Dark Horse Comics. Taylor also recently stated that he’s interested in creating two films to represent each record. Stone Sour will hit the road to support both releases, but the band is starting their run outside of the U.S. Aside from two Halloween week shows (Oct. 28 and 29) at Wooly’s in Taylor’s hometown of Des Moines, the trek will span through Mexico, South America, and Europe for the remainder of the year. Stone Sour will kick off 2013 taking part in Australia’s Soundwave Festival . North American dates are expected to follow, but have yet to be announced. Pre-order bundles for the Stone Sour ‘House of Gold & Bones’ discs can be found here . Rob Zombie + Marilyn Manson Bring ‘Twins of Evil’ Tour to New York City

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Even though their tour stopped in New York City a couple of weeks shy of Halloween, the ‘Twins of Evil’ made fans feel like it was indeed All Hallow’s Eve. Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson put together two blistering sets at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom on Wednesday, Oct. 17. With Manson taking the stage first, the entire venue was buzzing about the recent feud between the evil twins. Throughout a set that included brand new songs like ‘No Reflection’ and ‘Slo-Mo-Tion,’ and fan favorites like ‘The Dope Show,’ ‘mOBSCENE’ and ‘The Beautiful People,’ Manson never mentioned his touring partner or the beef between them. Manson and his band performed for a solid 80 minutes with no complaints. With half of the show complete, fans still weren’t convinced the feud was over. But much like Manson’s set, Zombie never took any swipes. In fact, at one point, Zombie referred to Manson and his band as his “touring friends.” Zombie opened the night with ‘Jesus Frankenstein’ and followed it with blow-after-blow, including ‘Meet the Creeper,’ ‘Scum of the Earth,’ ‘Sick Bubblegum’ and a short cover of Alice Cooper’s ‘School’s Out.’ With or without a quarrel, the twins delivered a memorable show. From Manson’s huge light set-up that at one time flashed the word ‘DRUGS’ to Zombie’s gigantic devil that rocked out to John 5′s signature guitar solo, fans in New York City were given an early Halloween treat last night. Both frontmen seemed to be giving 110% during their sets, running around onstage and interacting with the audience. As fans walked out of the venue, there was no question that they just enjoyed one of the best Halloween celebrations of their lives, even if it was a couple of weeks early. The evening was opened up by DJ Starscream (aka Sid Wilson of Slipknot), who got the crowd ready for a night of mayhem. He even used portions of some Slipknot tracks in a few of his mixes. Kirk Hammett Excited for Metallica’s Headlining Set at Voodoo Music Festival

Kevin Winter, Getty Images On the heels of learning that Metallica will be taking over Green Day ‘s headlining gig at the 2012 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans, Loudwire had the chance to catch up with ‘Tallica axeman Kirk Hammett . This will be Metallica’s first concert in New Orleans since 2008, so needless to say there is a lot of excitement around the announcement . With Green Day pulling out of the festival due to lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s entrance into rehab, Hammett looks at the concert as more than just filling an open slot. “I’m very honored that we’re able to help our friends in Green Day,” he says. “I wish Billie Joe the best of luck, we’ll do anything to help them out. It’s great to be able to help him out.” What can fans expect from the show? “It’s such a recent development, so we haven’t really discussed what we’re going to do yet,” Hammett explains honestly. “New Orleans during Halloween, I’m really excited about that. I love New Orleans, I love the voodoo folklore, I love the vampire folklore. It should be pretty interesting.” With the recent release of Hammett’s book that chronicles his horror movie memorabilia collection, ‘ Too Much Horror Business ,’ there’s no doubt that fans are in for a treat on Halloween weekend in New Orleans. The 14th annual Voodoo Music + Arts Experience kicks off on Oct. 26 and runs through Oct. 28. Metallica will be headlining the Oct. 27 date. Green Day Bow Out of 2012 Voodoo Experience

Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire Green Day were planning to head up the 2012 Voodoo Music + Arts Experience over Halloween weekend, but given singer Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s recent entry into rehab for treatment of substance abuse issues, they’ve now bowed out of the performance. The timing has not been the best in the world for Green Day, as the singer’s meltdown at the iHeart Music Festival in Las Vegas and subsequent rehab announcement came just ahead of the release of the group’s ‘¡Uno!’ album. At the time, the band issued a statement apologizing for the incident at the Las Vegas event, revealing Armstrong’s decision to attend rehab, and regretfully announcing that some of their promotional appearances would be postponed as a result. Drummer Tre Cool issued the band’s statement on their exit from the Voodoo Experience. It read: Canceling shows is something we rarely do. We never want to let our fans down, and we are grateful for all of you being understanding during this time. Meanwhile, Voodoo Music + Arts Experience organizers, Rehage Entertainment, issued their own statement on the matter. It read: We, like everyone, were looking forward to having Green Day back at Voodoo. Their 2004 performance was one of the festival’s greatest. We are obviously disappointed in the news, but realize the health and well being of Billie Joe is the most important thing right now. We wish him and the entire Green Day family the best and offer them our full support. The Voodoo Experience will go on without Green Day. The festival runs Oct. 26-28 at New Orleans’ City Park. Even without Green Day, the lineup is pretty solid. Neil Young & Crazy Horse, the Avett Brothers , Justice, Silversun Pickups , AWOLNATION, Jack White , Skrillex , and Coheed & Cambria are among the top performers on this year’s bill. As I Lay Dying Talk New Album + More at Metal Blade Records Anniversary Show in New York

Photo by Ty Watkins In 1982, Brian Slagel started a record label that would turn into one of the premiere labels in the world of hard rock and metal. Celebrating 30 years in the industry with Metal Blade Records, Slagel decided to throw a party for the fans in New York City. Michigan heavy metalers Battlecross opened the night at Santos Party House, and As I Lay Dying closed things out. Being with Metal Blade for nearly a decade, it was no doubt an unbelievable honor for As I Lay Dying to help Slagel celebrate 30 years. Before the gig, Loudwire had the chance to catch up with Nick Hipa and Phil Sgrosso, both guitarists from the band, to chat about their new album, what it was like touring on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival and more. Leading up to the release of your latest album, ‘Awakened,’ you gave your fans a taste of what to expect with the tune ‘Cauterize.’ Do you think that is a good representation of the album as a whole? Nick Hipa: We’re all pretty confident that the fans are going to be into the album as a whole based on the response we got from ‘Cauterize.’ That’s just the tip of the iceberg as far as the whole album goes. If people can get into that, they’ll be stoked for what the rest of the album is. You recorded ‘Awakened’ in Fort Collins, Colo. I get the feeling this is a bit isolating as far as the metal community goes. NH: You know, the experience was awesome. It allowed us to be more productive than we’ve ever been. That mostly was a result of Phil and I being able to record all day, everyday for the majority of the day in our own rooms while the rest of the guys were recording in San Diego. That made it a lot more enjoyable. We weren’t as stressed out with timing and scheduling. The icing on the cake is that Fort Collins is just a really cool place. Phil Sgrosso:   It definitely helped that we didn’t have any distractions, not worrying about family plans or something that would cause us to leave early. It was great to just focus on the record and get it done. Just a little over a month ago, you guys wrapped up the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. What was it like touring with bands like Slayer, Anthrax and Slipknot? PS: It was great. The mainstage was all the older bands and the classic metal bands. Slipknot , they’ve been around for 15 years or so, but they’re such a presence on the tour. It was nice playing with those bands and sharing the stage with them. There was a lot of energy with the festival. Everyone was pretty stoked about it. Any crazy stories from that tour? NH:  Not so much crazy, but one of the things that sticks out to me is that a lot of the nights on tour there would be a tour-sponsored mixer where a band would be in charge of throwing a party. Usually there was a theme associated with it. Anthrax had a Halloween theme and everyone dressed up. Lemmy and the rest of the dudes from Motorhead showed up in costume, they were dressed up as the Blues Brothers. To me that was incredible because Lemmy is definitely an older guy and he’s been around for a really long time. It was great to see that someone like that hasn’t been jaded by the biz. He’s got a really good sense of himself and is really down to earth. He still has a good time. That was really awesome to me. It was like, “Oh, Lemmy’s here, and he’s in a costume!” What’s it mean to be a part of the Metal Blade family, playing their 30th anniversary show tonight? NH: We’re all proud to be on a label like Metal Blade. Metal Blade has been very reputable the whole time, it’s cool to be a part of it and be amongst the roster of bands that have excelled in their genres or done cool things in the world of heavy music. It’s been a pleasure working with them and being on the label for this long. PS: It’s kind of crazy to think that we’re playing our label’s 30th anniversary show. The owner, Brian Slagel, has seen it all happen. We’re definitely honored to be with them. You mentioned the world of heavy music. As I Lay Dying have been around for over a decade, and I would say you have ventured past the term ‘up-and-comers.’ That being said, in the last couple of years, there have definitely been some new bands that have really made a splash in the music scene. Have there been any acts that have caught your ear? NH: Even though we’re in a [Loudwire] Death Match with Gojira right now, they’re one of the heavier bands that are out there right now that are blowing us all away. They write such creative and crushingly heavy music, and we got to play with them a few months ago. They’re incredible live. They’re one of my favorite heavy bands right now. [Editor’s note: As I Lay Dying’s ‘A Greater Foundation’ was in battle with Gojira’s ‘The Axe’ at the time of the interview.] What’s next for As I Lay Dying? PS: We’ll be heading over to Europe for a month with Trivium. Then after that we’ll be on the Monster Outbreak Tour, a few Canadian dates and the rest will be in the states. So, basically two months of touring for the rest of the year. ?
