Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi + Queen’s Brian May Plan to Collaborate on Guitar Riffs Album

Paul Kane / Daniele Venturelli, Getty Images Two masters of the guitar are apparently making plans to create a “riffs” album. Black Sabbath ‘s Tony Iommi and Queen’s Brian May are expected to begin this riffs record soon, which will allow fans to build their own songs using the recordings. What if you had the men who wrote ‘Iron Man’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in your very own musical project? You’d be a made man! The riff masters are bonafide legends, and will break new ground once again with this new idea. The Iommi / May project was meant to be kept a secret for a while longer, but Iommi accidentally broke the news earlier than expected. “When are we going to get to work on that album of riffs together?,” Iommi asked May in the Kerrang! interview. “You know what I’m talking about.” May replies, “Yes, I do know what he’s talking about, and I’m very, very keen. The record he’s talking about what supposed to be a secret, but I guess he’s blown it now.” [via NME ] May came up with the idea for the record after visiting Iommi’s studio, noticing the massive amount of unreleased material the Sabbath guitarist has conjured over the years. “I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them,” May says about the demos. “The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!” There’s no word on when fans can expect the album to be recorded or released, but Black Sabbath followers will be gifted with the new album, ’13,’ in June. The experimental and must-see festival promises to combine live music from some of metal’s biggest acts, along with over 70 screenings of horror, true crime and heavy metal films. The Housecore Horror Film & Music Festival will take place Oct. 25-27 at Emo’s East in Austin, Texas. Among the bands who will perform at the festival are Anselmo’s band Down , aggro-doom metal veterans Crowbar and the Texas premiere of Philip H. HHFF is also set to launch several sideshow attractions such as “gore-lesque” routines, suspension exhibitions and rare horror memorabilia displays. The blood and guts don’t even stop there, as dozens of other horror and metal-focused venders will be dispersed throughout the complex equipped with their own scare wares. As if this festival doesn’t sound awesome enough, festival attendees will have access to the ‘Haunted Corridor,’ which will be constructed by a Texas haunted house team with creative design input from Anselmo himself, who originally co-founded the ‘House of Shock’ horror experience in New Orleans. Anselmo and Mitchell are also accepting films shot by fans, either big budget or nonexistent budget, for consideration to be shown at the festival. The duo will be personally screening the entries, with a deadline of March 20 for all submissions. If you’re interested in submitting a film, click here . HIM Announce April Release Date for New Album ‘Tears on Tape’

Photo Credit: Joonas Brandt Finnish love metal phenoms HIM  have unveiled details on their upcoming studio release. The band’s eighth record, ‘Tears on Tape,’ is set to be released on April 30 in the U.S., while U.K. and Ireland audiences will have access to the album on April 29. Having formed in 1991 and broken into the consciousness of U.S. audiences in the early 2000s, HIM gained a cult following thanks to songs such as ‘Buried Alive By Love,’ ‘Right Here in My Arms’ and ‘Wings of a Butterfly,’ along with a huge push by Jackass star Bam Margera. With HIM delivering sonic love metal delights for 20 years, the buzz for their 2013 full-length is beginning to resonate throughout rock and metal communities. ‘Tears on Tape’ was recorded in Finland with longtime HIM collaborator Hiili Hiilesmaa manning the helm as the band’s producer. Having worked on HIM releases such as ‘Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666,’ ‘Love Metal’ and ‘Venus Doom,’ Hiilesmaa also boasts studio work with the 69 Eyes , Apocalyptica and many others. “‘Tears on Tape’ is going to be really organic,” said  vocalist Ville Valo in a recent interview, “straight-in-your-face, super melancholy bulls— [Laughs]. It’s going to be something nobody’s heard before. I’m really happy about it. It sounds great. Remember the soundtrack for ‘Twin Peaks’ that Angelo Badalamenti did? It’s got that similar forlorn, melancholy quality but mixed up with  Motörhead . That’s where we’re at! We’re really happy. It’s got that dreamlike quality. It’s like Roy Orbison meeting  Metallica .” The new HIM album will be the act’s first release on the band’s new U.S. label, Razor & Tie Records. “We´re infernally glad to be dressed sharply enough for our dearest comrades in the US (for once),” says Valo. “R&T A-Go-Go!!!” Stay tuned for future news on HIM’s ‘Tears on Tape,’ along with the band’s upcoming 2013 tour dates, which are reportedly being planned as of this posting. Testament to Record Live Album in New York For 2013 Release

Facebook: Testament Testament are undoubtedly one of metal’s greatest live acts. Brandishing nearly unparalleled power throughout their live shows, Testament simply cannot be ignored when they take the stage. It’s been a few years since the thrash legends released a live album, the latest being ‘Live at Eindhoven ’87′ in 2009, but after the success of the band’s 2012 full-length, ‘Dark Roots of Earth,’ it only makes sense that Testament will be taping a new live record on Feb. 15. Testament boasts one of metal’s finest lineups when it comes to pure talent, with Chuck Billy on vocals, Alex Skolnick and Eric Peterson on guitars, Greg Christian on bass and the ‘Atomic Clock’ Gene Hoglan on drums. It would truly be a crime not to own a solid piece of history from this particular Testament lineup, so luckily, before the end of 2013, a new live album from the Bay Area thrashers will hit the shelves. “We haven’t shot a live DVD or CD since our Live in London release and we’ve had two killer albums since then,” comments Testament’s towering vocalist Chuck Billy. “We thought it would be cool to put out a live DVD/CD focusing on the last three records (‘The Gathering,’ ‘The Formation of Damnation’ and ‘Dark Roots of Earth’) mixed in with a good amount of classics too. Last time we recorded anything live in America was for Live at the Fillmore on the West Coast. This time we thought we’d give the East Coast a chance to show the world how crazy and loud they can be. We’re going to be playing an extra-long 17 – 18 song set, which will be our lengthiest set of the tour. Let’s see all you thrashers stirring it up out there and singing along! See ya!” Testament are currently touring throughout North America with fellow thrash veterans Overkill . If you’re in the Long Island, N.Y. area, make sure to check out Testament at the Paramount on Feb. 15 to witness the making of the band’s live album in person!
