Mark Tremonti: New Alter Bridge Album To Be Packed With ‘High Energy’ Songs

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Mark Tremonti is currently winding down the latest North American tour leg for his self-titled band, and Alter Bridge  are about to become his primary focus. The guitarist tells Billboard that after meeting briefly earlier this year, the band is ready to resume work on a new disc and has the beginnings of the effort in place. He explained, “[We have] about five songs outlined [for the new album] … All of them are kind of real high-energy, just real fun rock/metal. We want to not be predictable. We want to make it a little surprising and we’re having fun with it.” At present, Alter Bridge are planning to regroup in late April and hope to begin recording their new album in earnest this summer, with a tour tentatively slated for September. As for the Tremonti band and their plans, the guitarist admits that he might line up some shows during breaks in Alter Bridge’s schedule, just as frontman Myles Kennedy is planning to do with Slash . “It’s always good when you’re recording a record to go take a break and come back,” says the guitarist. “That way you can make sure it’s still exciting and fresh to you.” The rocker says he’s also thinking about a second album from Tremonti, but admits that it will take a back seat to his other bands for the immediate future. “We’re going to just keep pushing the limits of what we can do,” says Tremonti. “We’ll try to be as heavy and progressive as we can without losing the vocal melodies and the reasons why most people listen to music. I don’t want to be just self-indulgent, but we want to have a lot of fun with it, too.” And as for his other band,  Creed , Tremonti simply states, “It’s Alter Bridge’s year.” [button href=”” title=”Next: Watch Tremonti’s ‘Wish You Well’ Video” align=”center”]

Five Finger Death Punch Eye Summer 2013 Release for Next Album

Instagram: Zoltan Bathory Five Finger Death Punch have been working on new music and fans will be happy to know that there’s now a target date for the band’s next album. Guitarist Zoltan Bathory reveals via a series of Instagram posts that 5FDP are currently recording songs in the studio and aiming for a summer 2013 release. Bathory’s photos, which can be seen here , here , and here , show him having fun jamming with the band in the studio, one with the comment, “Recording the new album. Out this summer.” Another pic teases in its caption, “At the recording studio tracking guitars for new #fivefingerdeathpunch album … Out 2013 summer – the title is … .” Bathory’s photo postings go along with drummer Jeremy Spencer’s recent comments that the band had been “cocooned up” working on a new album. In addition, guitarist Jason Hook revealed last summer that the band had taken a recording rig with them on their tour. At the time, Hook stated, “The idea behind that is just to keep the creative muscle worked out. It’s just like going to the gym; if you stop for a year, you lose all your strength. It’s easy to get lazy and get sort of soft. We’re in the business of making music; touring is great, but we should always be prepared and always exercising that creative muscle — in my opinion, anyway.” He also added that they had “six to eight songs” worked up at that point for when they headed into the studio. Hook said the preparation would make things easier once they hit the studio and gave them plenty of options to work with when it came time to record. 5FDP’s new disc will be the follow-up to 2011′s ‘American Capitalist,’ which has yielded such singles as ‘Under and Over It,’ ‘Remember Everything’ and current hit ‘The Pride.’ [button href=”” title=”Next: Watch Five Finger Death Punch’s Video for ‘The Pride'” align=”center”]

Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi + Queen’s Brian May Plan to Collaborate on Guitar Riffs Album

Paul Kane / Daniele Venturelli, Getty Images Two masters of the guitar are apparently making plans to create a “riffs” album. Black Sabbath ‘s Tony Iommi and Queen’s Brian May are expected to begin this riffs record soon, which will allow fans to build their own songs using the recordings. What if you had the men who wrote ‘Iron Man’ or ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ in your very own musical project? You’d be a made man! The riff masters are bonafide legends, and will break new ground once again with this new idea. The Iommi / May project was meant to be kept a secret for a while longer, but Iommi accidentally broke the news earlier than expected. “When are we going to get to work on that album of riffs together?,” Iommi asked May in the Kerrang! interview. “You know what I’m talking about.” May replies, “Yes, I do know what he’s talking about, and I’m very, very keen. The record he’s talking about what supposed to be a secret, but I guess he’s blown it now.” [via NME ] May came up with the idea for the record after visiting Iommi’s studio, noticing the massive amount of unreleased material the Sabbath guitarist has conjured over the years. “I thought it would be great to make a compilation out of them,” May says about the demos. “The idea was to put all these riffs out in some form so that people could build their own songs from them. You could make your own music with Tony Iommi on guitar!” There’s no word on when fans can expect the album to be recorded or released, but Black Sabbath followers will be gifted with the new album, ’13,’ in June. HIM Announce April Release Date for New Album ‘Tears on Tape’

Photo Credit: Joonas Brandt Finnish love metal phenoms HIM  have unveiled details on their upcoming studio release. The band’s eighth record, ‘Tears on Tape,’ is set to be released on April 30 in the U.S., while U.K. and Ireland audiences will have access to the album on April 29. Having formed in 1991 and broken into the consciousness of U.S. audiences in the early 2000s, HIM gained a cult following thanks to songs such as ‘Buried Alive By Love,’ ‘Right Here in My Arms’ and ‘Wings of a Butterfly,’ along with a huge push by Jackass star Bam Margera. With HIM delivering sonic love metal delights for 20 years, the buzz for their 2013 full-length is beginning to resonate throughout rock and metal communities. ‘Tears on Tape’ was recorded in Finland with longtime HIM collaborator Hiili Hiilesmaa manning the helm as the band’s producer. Having worked on HIM releases such as ‘Greatest Love Songs Vol. 666,’ ‘Love Metal’ and ‘Venus Doom,’ Hiilesmaa also boasts studio work with the 69 Eyes , Apocalyptica and many others. “‘Tears on Tape’ is going to be really organic,” said  vocalist Ville Valo in a recent interview, “straight-in-your-face, super melancholy bulls— [Laughs]. It’s going to be something nobody’s heard before. I’m really happy about it. It sounds great. Remember the soundtrack for ‘Twin Peaks’ that Angelo Badalamenti did? It’s got that similar forlorn, melancholy quality but mixed up with  Motörhead . That’s where we’re at! We’re really happy. It’s got that dreamlike quality. It’s like Roy Orbison meeting  Metallica .” The new HIM album will be the act’s first release on the band’s new U.S. label, Razor & Tie Records. “We´re infernally glad to be dressed sharply enough for our dearest comrades in the US (for once),” says Valo. “R&T A-Go-Go!!!” Stay tuned for future news on HIM’s ‘Tears on Tape,’ along with the band’s upcoming 2013 tour dates, which are reportedly being planned as of this posting.
