Courtney Love Working on Kurt Cobain Documentary With Acclaimed Filmmaker

Pier Marco Tacca / Frank Micelotta, Getty Images Courtney Love  has set the wheels in motion on a documentary about her late husband Kurt Cobain . She has reached out to filmmaker Brett Morgen , the man behind the current  Rolling Stones  documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane,’ to oversee a project based on the life of the late  Nirvana  frontman Morgen told the New York Post’s Page Six that he’s already planning out his Cobain documentary with the blessing of Love. He explained, “Courtney is the one that brought me into this. We’ve been trying to find the right time to put this film together and the time is now.” The documentarian went on to add, “Kurt was not only an amazing songwriter and musician, he was an incredible artist and filmmaker. So we are going to do the movie sort of like a third-person autobiography — as if Kurt was around and making a film about his life.” There were recent rumors that Love was interested in telling Cobain’s story on Broadway or as part of a musical film, but she later shot down talk of those projects happening. Courtney Love Denies Claim She Is Working on a Nirvana Musical

Stephen Lovekin, Getty Images During a recent testimony at his trial against Britney Spears, music industry manager Sam Lufti stated that he was working with Courtney Love to create a film or musical about Love’s life with her late husband Kurt Cobain , featuring the music of Nirvana . Despite Lufti’s claim, Love has just stated that there will be no such project. We reported on the possible project on Oct. 25, but as reported by The Guardian on Nov. 4, Love told the publication, “There will be no musical. Sometimes it’s best to just leave things alone.” The Hole frontwoman and ‘The People vs. Larry Flynt’ actress went on to speak about using Nirvana’s music for commercial purposes. “I said yes once – to Baz Luhrmann to use eight seconds of Smells Like Teen Spirit in Moulin Rouge. But he wasn’t allowed to use it in the marketing. I didn’t get the part in the film. I was so pissed off I made up the term to ‘Baz’ somebody.” Love has publicly condemned the use of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ by ‘The Muppets.’ “What the f—’s with ‘the Muppets?” begins Love. “I happen to like Elmo and I think the Cookie Monster is interesting but I know him [Kurt] and I know he didn’t want to be a Muppet. It was a disgrace. Like pissing on a grave.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/frances-bean-cobain-apparently-claims-home-intruder-was-trying-to-kill-her-fiance/” title=”Next: Frances Bean Cobain Claims Intruder Out to Kill Fiance” align=”center”]

Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ Video Smashed Bass Hits the Auction Block

YouTube Nirvana ’s memorable music video for ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ served as the battle cry for a whole new revolution for rock music, and now, a little piece of musical history from the clip is up for grabs. However, you better have deep pockets if you’re hoping to score the rock ‘n’ roll remnant. Most fans will recall the end of the iconic video when Kurt Cobain picks up a guitar and beats the heck out of it, smashing it to rubble. Now, more than two decades later, what’s left of the iconic bass smash is being auctioned off for big bucks. Christie’s of London has it going on the block Nov. 29 and they expect it to sell in the 25-40 thousand dollar range. The history of the bass has come to light as well, with ArtDaily reporting that bassist Krist Novoselic bought the 1960s Japanese Zen-On sunburst finish bass guitar at a pawn shop, while looking for something cheap that he knew would eventually be destroyed in the video shoot. According to musical lore, the remnants of the bass went home with a teenager who signed up to be an extra in the video. That’s not a bad parting gift. The bass joins other musical memorabilia for sale to the highest bidder including a high school yearbook signed by one Bob Dylan when he was a mere 17 years old. CBS Developing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ Sitcom With ‘Big Bang Theory’ Writer

DGC It’s been over two decades since Nirvana unleashed their game-changing magnum opus ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ The title remains synonymous with greatness, as well as being one of the most recognizable phrases in the lexicon of pop culture. Kurt Cobain famously despised the accessibility of the track, along with the bro-dudes and frat boys who would sing along at Nirvana shows. With that in mind, we’re sure that Cobain would love this move: CBS has just begun to develop a sitcom with the working title ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit.’ CBS is well-known for putting together highly successful sitcoms that adhere to the classic ‘laugh track’ and from-the-script style of comedic television. Many Nirvana fans would agree that Kurt Cobain wouldn’t have wanted CBS to use his song title to capitalize on the track’s phenomenal success, but Dave Goetsch, a writer from CBS’s ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ is developing a show with a current title based on the classic tune. Goetsch also hones credits from the shows ‘Grounded for Life’ and ’3rd Rock From the Sun.’ “The multicamera comedy revolves around an 18-year-old budding entrepreneur,” describes the Hollywood Reporter , “who forgoes Harvard and instead opts to launch a multibillion-dollar Internet company from his garage with the assistance of his sister, best friend and his 1990s indie-rock parents.” We’ll see if the ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ working title sticks. If it does, it might ruffle a few feathers in the Nirvana camp and among the band’s fans. Stay tuned for more on CBS’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ as the news breaks. Weird Al Yankovic Looks Back on ‘Smells Like Nirvana’

YouTube After a string of successful parody singles in the ’80s, the career of Weird Al Yankovic hit a lull. However, he rebounded with ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ from 1992′s ‘Off the Deep End,’ and Yankovic recently  spoke with Spin about the parody of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ near the 20th anniversary of its release. The most difficult part of the process was tracking down  Kurt Cobain to get permission to do the song. “A friend of mine was in the cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’ [Victoria Jackson],” Yankovic recalls. “I told her, if you ever get Kurt Cobain alone in a room, put him on the phone, because I’d love to talk to him — and she did! Directly! He was sweet and he got it in like five seconds and said, ‘Of course you can do a parody.’” Yankovic continues, “The famous quote from him was, ‘Is it going to be a song about food?’ because at that point that’s primarily what I was known for. And I said, ‘Well, no, it’s going to be a song about how nobody can understand your lyrics.’ And he said, “Oh, sure, of course, that’s funny.” The song was a massive success, and the video for ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ was shot on the same soundstage as ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and used many of the same props and even some of the same cheerleaders and audience members. It ended up being nominated for ‘Best Male Video’ at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards. After ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ was released, Yankovic had a chance encounter with Cobain. “I only met Kurt in person once at a restaurant in Los Angeles. He just happened to be eating at an adjoining table with his friends. This was after the parody had come out, so I got to go over and thank him in person. I just profusely thanked him and said, “Anything I can do for you, let me know.” Kurt extended his hand to me and said, ‘Polish my nails.’” Watch Weird Al Yankovic – ‘Smells Like Nirvana’ Video

Corey Taylor Dishes on Working With Dave Grohl for ‘Sound City’ Documentary

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com / Kevin Winter, Getty Images Several months ago it was revealed that  Slipknot / Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor was one of the artists recording music with  Foo Fighters frontman / ex- Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl for the latter’s ;Sound City’ documentary. Now Taylor has revealed more about the collaboration in an interview with Phoenix radio station KUPD (watch below). Taylor reveals, “[Dave Grohl] sent an email to me, basically explaining this huge project he was doing – the documentary around the infamous board that he got from Sound City, which so many people have recorded on – myself included – we did ‘Iowa’ on that board…He bought it, and I loved the idea that he was like ‘how many albums have been made on this board?” He adds, “He wrote the song, he sent me a demo of it and I was like ‘this is fantastic’ and I just basically wrote the first thing that came off the top of my head. He didn’t even hear it until I went down there to record it. And I laid it down and he was just like ‘wow.’ Because we did it old school – two inch tape, take after take after take. And with that board, man. It just sings, it was really, really cool.” Countless legendary albums were recorded at Sound City, including Nirvana ‘s ‘Nevermind,’ Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours,’ Neil Young’s ‘After The Gold Rush,’ Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’ ‘Damn the Torpedoes’ and Rage Against the Machine ‘s self-titled debut. While an official release date for the documentary has still not been revealed,  the web site for the film has several video clips and other info. Watch Corey Taylor’s Interview on KUPD
