Napalm Death’s Barney Greenway Responds to Harsh Words From Earache Records Founder

Facebook: Napalm Death Earache Records founder Digby Pearson has gained the respect of many metalheads by signing some of extreme metal’s most legendary bands, such as Carcass, Morbid Angel, At the Gates, Deicide and of course, Napalm Death . Although Napalm Death and Earache Records shared a successful business partnership at one point, Digby recently took some jabs at Napalm vocalist Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway . Reacting to some harsh words thrown at him, we recently got to experience Greenway’s retort during an exclusive interview. The initial verbal assault began on the ‘ Ask Earache ‘ blog when a fan asked Digby about the best and worst personalities he had worked with over the years. After singing the praises of Tomas Lindberg (At the Gates, Disfear) and Troy Azagthoth (Morbid Angel) among others, Digby addressed the ‘worst personalities’ side of the question: I’ve never had a pleasant time dealing with Napalm Death’s  Mark “Barney” Greenway. We supported him and his band for over a decade, investing eye-wateringly huge sums of money into his career. It’s quite possible he was never even aware of this fact, as his bumbling manager Mark Walmesley dealt with everything for him — including all his financial affairs I suspect — on a daily basis. The basic problem stems from the fact Barney was not involved with the explosive first 2 albums by Napalm Death so he completely missed out on the feel-good factor which came from a brand new band and label both blasting-off from obscurity. He had no reason for any goodwill towards me or Earache because he walked into an already successful band. Likewise I never actively chose to sign the dude, he was the band’s roadie,  he was the Benediction singer, suddenly drafted into the role of singer of a successful band,  and was obligated to sign into an existing contract, not one of his choosing. Barney did willingly ink deals with Earache twice more in the 90s though. The band’s slow gradual loss of fanbase during their groove-grind phase could have proved fatal, but Earache worked tirelessly behind the scenes to prevent Napalm Death splitting, quiting or becoming a totally spent force — for very little gratitude I might add. Even Barney himself jumped ship from Napalm to join ENT at one point. It was not a happy camp during those latter Earache years. His enmity to Earache is legendary and grudges are held, for the most trivial of reasons, for an inordinate length of time. On Oct. 28, we had the opportunity to speak with Greenway before Napalm Death’s Connecticut co-headlining show with Municipal Waste. After bringing up the topic of Digby’s harsh words, Greenway offered an in-depth response about Digby, which was less than sterling. Greenway says that he in fact never had a personal manager, that Digby never pumped an unusually large amount of money into Napalm Death and that the Earache Records founder has not come through with contractual obligations in the past. See Mark ‘Barney’ Greenway’s full response in our exclusive video below and stay tuned for our full interview with the booming Napalm Death vocalist. New Limp Bizkit Song ‘Lightz (City of Angels)’ Surfaces Online

YouTube Limp Bizkit  are back with a new song, ‘Lightz (City of Angels),’ which surfaced online over the weekend. A music video for the song had appeared on YouTube but was since taken down. However, you can still listen to the tune below. Frontman Fred Durst  sent out a  tweet to fans congratulating him on the track, saying, “Thank you, but it is NOT our first single / video. It was leaked prematurely.” The song ‘Lightz’ is a little bit more poppy than some of the group’s late ’90s rock efforts and shows some evolution in their sound. Durst both sings and raps on the track, and it has more of a anthemic yet melodic feel to it. However, there is definitely something for the rock fans as Wes Borland gets in a solid guitar solo midway into the track. The tune will likely appear on the band’s upcoming Cash Money records debut album, ‘Stampede of the Disco Elephants.’ In related news, the group is working on a new music video for the ‘Urban Assault Version’ of ‘Ready to Go,’ their collaboration with rapper Lil’ Wayne . The band has posted shots from the video shoot here , here , here , and here . Green Day Cancel 2012 Gigs, Postpone 2013 Tour + Move Up Release of ‘¡Tre!’ Album

Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire As singer  Billie Joe Armstrong  remains in  rehab  for substance abuse treatment, Green Day  have announced that they’ve canceled all of their remaining 2012 club shows and have postponed their entire 2013 North American arena tour set for January and February.  Bassist Mike Dirnt explains, “Obviously the time for this isn’t ideal, but Billie Joe’s well-being is our main concern. We are happy to say the Billie Joe is doing well, and we want to thank you for all the outpouring of support and well wishes that we have received, and we can’t wait to see you all again soon.” New dates for the January and February performances will be announced shortly, and all previously purchased tickets will be honored. The band also revealed that because of all the schedule maneuvering, they will go ahead and push up the release of their ‘¡Tré!’ album to Dec. 11 from Jan. 15. Drummer Tre Cool added, “We feel bad we have to delay our tour, so to make up for it we want to give our fans the music earlier than we had planned. If we couldn’t be there to play it for you live, the least we could do was give you the next best thing.” ‘¡Tré!’ is the third of the band’s new album trilogy, which also included the recently released ‘¡Uno!’ and the Nov. 13 release ‘¡Dos!’ One of Green Day’s missed performances came over the weekend as they were scheduled to headline the Voodoo Arts + Music Experience in New Orleans. Social Distortion Bring Traveling Punk Show to New York City – Exclusive Photo Gallery

Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire For more than 30 years, Social Distortion have been delivering their own unique brand of punk rock to music fans, and they show no sign of slowing down. Frontman Mike Ness and company hit New York City’s Roseland Ballroom on Friday, Oct. 26, for a no-nonsense 90-minute set. The set focused primarily on Social Distortion’s output from 1990 on, as the band did not play any tunes off early albums ‘Mommy’s Little Monster’ and ‘Prison Bound.’ Social D kicked off the show with ‘I Was Wrong’ off ‘White Light, White Heat, White Trash,’ and proceeded to play such favorites as ‘Sick Boys,’ ‘Bad Luck’ and ‘Ball and Chain’ during the 17-song set. Ness, who turned 50 years old earlier this year, remains one of rock ‘n’ roll’s most engaging frontmen, as the dapper rocker kept the crowd captivated throughout the night. The gig ended with a cover of the Johnny Cash classic ‘Ring of Fire,’ which has become a classic tune for Social D, as well. Social Distortion’s U.S. tour continues into 2013. Metallica Rock as Replacements for 2012 Voodoo Festival

YouTube Metallica did not expect to be spending time in New Orleans in late October, but the band shook off any rust that might have accumulated in the last couple of months to deliver a blistering set Saturday night (Oct. 27) for the Voodoo Arts + Music Experience. The band, who signed on only after Green Day had to bow out of headliners, had a couple of weeks to prepare, and they delivered an 18-song set that did not disappoint. The group opened the show with the older favorites ‘Hit the Lights’ and ‘Master of Puppets,’ and also rocked through their standards of ‘Welcome Home (Sanitarium),’ ‘Fade to Black,’ ‘One,’ ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls,’ and ‘Enter Sandman.’ ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Battery,’ and set closer ‘Seek and Destroy’ wrapped up a powerful performance. The set was one of few that fans will see in the coming months. The band has concluded their ‘Death Magnetic’ touring, and has been focusing their time on a 3D film before spending considerable studio time working on their next album. However, the group has announced several festival shows for 2013. For those who didn’t catch Saturday’s stream of the full performance , check out pro-shot video of the first three tracks from the set — ‘Hit the Lights,’ ‘Master of Puppets,’ and ‘Holier Than Thou’ — below. Guns N’ Roses’ Las Vegas Residency Leads to Temporary Road Name Change

Theo Wargo, Getty Images The city of Las Vegas is definitely pulling out the stops for Guns N’ Roses upcoming residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino . The latest welcome gift for the band was the temporary renaming of one of Las Vegas’ streets to mark the occasion, as Paradise Road will now be known as Paradise City Road. Blabbermouth reports that Clark County Commissioner Mary Beth Scow will declare the street as Paradise City Road during an official ceremony this coming Monday (Oct. 29) at 2:30PM local time. The band members will be presented with an official street sign, though in a recent Facebook posting , it looks as though they’ve already seen it. The group is expected to address the crowd and pose for photos. Guns N’ Roses residency runs from Oct. 31-Nov. 24 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Much like they did when Motley Crue came to town, the casino will have special Guns N’ Roses $25 chips to gamble with during the run. In addition, the casino has come up with a number of specialty themed Guns N’ Roses drinks , including such thirst-quenching concoctions as the November Rain, the Patience Punch, the Paradise City Limits and the Axl Rose. Guns N’ Roses have been making more high profile appearances leading up to the shows. The band recently performed at Neil Young ‘s Bridge School benefit and Axl Rose made an extremely rare late night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live .
