YouTube Metallica did not expect to be spending time in New Orleans in late October, but the band shook off any rust that might have accumulated in the last couple of months to deliver a blistering set Saturday night (Oct. 27) for the Voodoo Arts + Music Experience. The band, who signed on only after Green Day had to bow out of headliners, had a couple of weeks to prepare, and they delivered an 18-song set that did not disappoint. The group opened the show with the older favorites ‘Hit the Lights’ and ‘Master of Puppets,’ and also rocked through their standards of ‘Welcome Home (Sanitarium),’ ‘Fade to Black,’ ‘One,’ ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls,’ and ‘Enter Sandman.’ ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Battery,’ and set closer ‘Seek and Destroy’ wrapped up a powerful performance. The set was one of few that fans will see in the coming months. The band has concluded their ‘Death Magnetic’ touring, and has been focusing their time on a 3D film before spending considerable studio time working on their next album. However, the group has announced several festival shows for 2013. For those who didn’t catch Saturday’s stream of the full performance , check out pro-shot video of the first three tracks from the set — ‘Hit the Lights,’ ‘Master of Puppets,’ and ‘Holier Than Thou’ — below. Bryan Bedder / Astrid Stawiarz, Getty Images A great idea is a great idea, and former Pennywise singer Jim Lindberg continues to see positive returns from his ‘Punk Rock Dad’ book. Initially, the vocalist saw his book turned into a documentary helmed by director Andrea Nevins featuring several rock star fathers. Now, ComingSoon.net reports that ‘How I Met Your Mother’ actor Jason Segel has picked up the rights to adapt the premise into a traditional motion picture. The actor will both star in and produce the film, which is going by the name ‘The Other F Word.’ While the book focused solely on Lindberg’s tales, balancing fatherhood with his rock star lifestyle, the documentary expanded the story base to include Rise Against ‘s Tim McIlrath , Red Hot Chili Peppers ‘ Flea , NOFX’s Fat Mike, Blink-182′s Mark Hoppus, The Vandals’ Joe Escalante, and Bad Religion’s Brett Gurewitz among others. Fox won the rights to the film in a bidding war. Segel, who also wrote and starred in the films ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’ and ‘The Muppets,’ will co-write ‘The Other F Word’ for Fox. Aside from Segel, no other cast members have been revealed. Lindberg split from Pennywise in 2009 after 21 years with the band. It didn’t take him long to move on, as his band, the Black Pacific, released an album in 2010. Lindberg was replaced in Pennywise by Ignite vocalist Zoli Teglas in 2010. Their first record with Teglas was 2012′s ‘All or Nothing.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/pennywise-singer-zoli-teglas-undergoes-emergency-surgery-after-collapsing-onstage/” title=”Next: Pennywise’s Zoli Teglas Collapses Onstage” align=”center”]

Dave Hogan, Getty Images It has been a while since we’ve heard anything about the progress of Black Sabbath ‘s upcoming album , but Metal Injection has uncovered some details about the recordings, including a song title. Sabbath are working on the album at Shangri La Studios in Malibu, Calif. As previously reported, 15 songs have been recorded, and now bassist Geezer Butler revealed to SiriusXM’s Jose Mangin that 12 will make the album, with the other three likely being used as bonus tracks for special editions. Ozzy Osbourne is currently recording vocals with Rick Rubin. Butler is writing all the lyrics, and the two are working to complete the songs in five track increments. They are reportedly working on the first five now. One song title has been confirmed – ‘God Is Dead.’ Guitarist Tony Iommi completed all 15 guitar tracks during the band’s sessions in England earlier this year. As for Iommi’s health, Ozzy told Mangin that he spoke to Iommi recently and he is in good spirits and recovery is coming along very well from his cancer treatments earlier this year. Drummer Bill Ward has not been part of the Sabbath reunion because of a contract dispute , and it looks like he won’t be. If the guitar tracks are done, most likely the drum tracks have been finished, as well, although the band has not confirmed that. Snippets of Mangin’s interview with Ozzy and Geezer will begin airing on Ozzy’s Boneyard (SiriusXM channel 38) starting next week.
