Drowning Pool Unleash ‘Saturday Night’ Video

Facebook – Drowning Pool Drowning Pool ‘s as-yet-untitled fifth studio album is due in early 2013, and in advance of its release, the video for the new song ‘Saturday Night’ has been unveiled (watch below). The song features Drowning Pool’s new vocalist Jasen Moreno, who made his live debut as Ryan McCombs’ replacement earlier this summer. Moreno says, “I am extremely happy and very grateful to be a part of the Drowning Pool family. Everyone’s been so welcoming, especially the fans. I can’t praise them enough. They’ve made me feel right at home. This first run of live shows couldn’t have gone any better!” ‘Saturday Night’ is anthemic and very melodic. The video features the band performing in the middle of a crowd of fans and intersperses shots of a party, scantily clad women and other things that happen when you live your life like it’s Saturday night. Bassist Stevie Benton talked about the track with Noisecreep . “The question I am most often asked is ‘What’s life on tour like?’ This song is my best description of a typical day on the road.” The band’s new album is being produced by Kato Khandwala (Cold, Taylor Momsen). Drowning Pool’s best known song is their 2001 hit ‘Bodies,’ which was recently named one of Loudwire’s Top 21st Century Hard Rock Songs . Watch Drowning Pool – ‘Saturday Night’ Video

Watch Metallica + More Perform Live From the Voodoo Festival

Kevin Winter, Getty Images New Orleans is the place to be this weekend for the Voodoo Music + Arts Experience, but even if you’re not anywhere near Louisiana, you can still catch Metallica and more this evening with the Voodoo Festival webstream (which you can watch below). Actual streaming footage from the festival begins today courtesy of Ustream at 1PM ET/10AM PT. Today’s lineup includes such acts as Silversun Pickups , AWOLNATION, Justice, and The Features among others. Metallica’s performance is set for 9:30PM ET/6:30PM PT. Fans can also catch highlights from the Voodoo festival on Fuse TV throughout the day. Metallica were a last minute addition to the Voodoo festival lineup, as original Saturday headliners Green Day bowed out after singer Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s recent admittance to rehab. Guitarist Kirk Hammett stated , “I’m very honored that we’re able to help our friends in Green Day. I wish Billie Joe the best of luck, we’ll do anything to help them out. It’s great to be able to help him out.” Of the event itself, Hammett gushed, “New Orleans during Halloween, I’m really excited about that. I love New Orleans, I love the voodoo folklore, I love the vampire folklore. It should be pretty interesting.” While the band have curtailed their touring for the time being, Voodoo gives the group the perfect showcase in advance of their ‘ Quebec Magnetic ‘ DVD, which is slated for a Dec. 10 release. Lars Ulrich stated earlier this year that he thought it would be 2014 before fans would see a new record, which means studio time will likely take up a good portion of next year. However, Metallica do have plans to headline the Rock in Rio festival and take part in Australia’s Soundwave traveling tour next year. But for now, be sure to check out Metallica and other acts playing today’s Voodoo Arts + Music Experience in the live stream below. The Sword, ‘Apocryphon’ – Album Review

Razor & Tie The  Sword  caught the attention of critics and fans alike with their first three albums, and the band has steadily developed a strong following through relentless touring. Now, the Texas quartet is back with its fourth full-length effort, ‘Apocryphon.’ Their stoner metal sound is intact on ‘Apocryphon,’ but the Sword have stepped up their songwriting prowess. There are more hooks, and the songs are more direct while still leaving room for some experimentation and jamming. It’s a really good balance. The opener ‘Veil of Isis’ is a good representation of the album. There are heavy riffs, tempo shifts and plenty of instrumental breaks. It’s also the longest track on ‘Apocryphon,’ clocking in at just under six minutes. When it comes to tempo, the Sword are not your typical stoner/doom band. Instead of plodding, glacial songs, they keep the speed up, usually mid to up-tempo. Their sound is consistent, but the shifting tempos help add diversity. The faster songs also make them more appealing to those who might not typically listen to stoner metal. Guitars are front and center on ‘Apocryphon, with Kyle Shutt and J.D. Cronise getting plenty of opportunity to showcase their fuzzy riffs and psychedelic solos. Cronise is also the band’s vocalist, and his voice is melodic with a slight edge. There’s a hint of Ozzy-era Sabbath in his croon, but Cronise has a smoother delivery. The Sword’s rhythm section also deserves praise for ‘Apocryphon.’ Bassist Bryan Ritchie makes his presence felt and his rumbling rhythms are nice and high in the mix. Santiago ‘Jimmy’ Vela III is the newest addition to the band, and the drummer fits in perfectly, a rock solid anchor. There are some subtle electronic elements on the album, including the title track. ‘Dying Earth’ has a trippy synth intro before kicking into a fairly straightforward and catchy song. Speaking of catchy, ‘Execrator’ is packed with memorable hooks. It’s lean and mean, and you’ll find yourself singing along to the chorus after just a couple of listens. ‘Apocryphon’ is the Sword’s best album to-date. Their existing fan base will love it, and it will be a big draw for stoner metal fans. In addition, fans of classic rock, hard rock and traditional metal will find plenty to sink their teeth into, as well. You can also spend a couple of extra bucks and get the deluxe edition of ‘Apocryphon.’ It includes four live tracks and a cover of the ZZ Top song ‘Cheap Sunglasses.’

Metallica’s Robert Trujillo to Show Jaco Pastorius Film Clip at Bass Player Event

Theo Wargo, Getty Images / Facebook: Jaco Pastorius Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo is just about finished with the documentary honoring his idol, Jaco Pastorius, and he’s ready to share a bit of the film with a crowd that would truly enjoy it — the audience members at this weekend’s Bass Player LIVE! bash in Hollywood. Back in May, Trujillo revealed that he was financing the project on Pastorius , who is considered one of the most influential bassists in music history despite his battles with mental illness and his death at an early age. Trujillo said at the time, “Jaco was my hero growing up. Hearing him was like hearing Eddie Van Halen doing ‘Eruption’ for the first time. You thought, ‘What instrument is that?’ I love jazz fusion and branched out from there. But Jaco had an edge that far exceeded his jazz persona. He was funk, he was rock, he was soul, and his whole attitude was punk.” Trujillo has created a specially-edited advance clip of his documentary specifically for the Bass Player LIVE crowd. In addition, Pastorius’ family will be on hand to accept the bass great’s posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony. Other honorees at the two-day bash (Oct. 20-21) include Yes ‘ Chris Squire and Bob Marley’s Aston “Family Man” Barrett, who are also receiving Lifetime Achievement honors. Both musicians will perform during tonight’s concert and appear at the live clinic for interviews. The weekend will also give bass players a chance to check out the latest in gear and watch a few clinics, with Anthrax ‘s Frank Bello , Megadeth ‘s David Ellefson , Whitesnake ‘s Marco Mendoza all on hand to take part in the exhibitions. Clutch Reveal New Album Title + Dates for Late 2012 Tour

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Clutch have been quiet as of late, but the band is ready to emerge from the studio with their latest chugging opus, ‘Earth Rocker.’ The group just completed the effort, and they currently have circled March 2013 on their calendar to release the disc. Singer Neil Fallon tells  Antiquiet , “Last minute overdubs are fun — Harmonicas, tambourines (yes, we use those), claps, the odd backing vocal. Recording can be monotonous, so those unintended moments can be a lot of fun. It’s kind of like kindergarten music class, but with beer. And sometimes the spontaneity of a last ditch idea breathes a lot of life back into a song that we’ve been beating up for weeks on end. A looming deadline can be a great muse!” As for the sound, the frontman adds, “It has a lot in common with ‘Blast Tyrant’ in that Machine’s production techniques are really unique. It differs from ‘Blast Tyrant’ and a lot of other Clutch records in that, overall, the songs are faster and concise.” With the record ready to go, Clutch will get their live chops in order. The band has booked a handful of late October/early November shows in the Midwest, and will also take part in a late year holiday tour in the period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. After that, the group will head to Europe for January and February dates before ‘Earth Rocker’s’ March release. Five Finger Death Punch Offer Live Assault for ‘The Pride’ Video

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Five Finger Death Punch take pride in their live set, and they’re putting it on full display with their new video for ‘The Pride,’ the latest single from their 2011 ‘ American Capitalist ‘ album. The clip for their latest single features footage shot during the band’s touring and showcases not only their stellar live performances but the stage setup, which includes a visual assault of imagery behind the band. The song itself deals with a fair amount of commercialism, as singer Ivan Moody riffs on a number of brand names and celebrity endorsers, while the video board in the clip has plenty of brightly placed images flashing to the crowd. Five Finger Death Punch recently wrapped up their Trespass America tour, and they’ve discussed the idea of ramping up to a January start for recording their follow-up to the ‘American Capitalist’ disc. The disc has already spawned the singles ‘Under and Over It,’ ‘Back for More,’ ‘Remember Everything,’ and ‘Coming Down,’ with ‘The Pride’ surfacing as the fifth single this month.
