Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Clutch have been quiet as of late, but the band is ready to emerge from the studio with their latest chugging opus, ‘Earth Rocker.’ The group just completed the effort, and they currently have circled March 2013 on their calendar to release the disc. Singer Neil Fallon tells Antiquiet , “Last minute overdubs are fun — Harmonicas, tambourines (yes, we use those), claps, the odd backing vocal. Recording can be monotonous, so those unintended moments can be a lot of fun. It’s kind of like kindergarten music class, but with beer. And sometimes the spontaneity of a last ditch idea breathes a lot of life back into a song that we’ve been beating up for weeks on end. A looming deadline can be a great muse!” As for the sound, the frontman adds, “It has a lot in common with ‘Blast Tyrant’ in that Machine’s production techniques are really unique. It differs from ‘Blast Tyrant’ and a lot of other Clutch records in that, overall, the songs are faster and concise.” With the record ready to go, Clutch will get their live chops in order. The band has booked a handful of late October/early November shows in the Midwest, and will also take part in a late year holiday tour in the period between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. After that, the group will head to Europe for January and February dates before ‘Earth Rocker’s’ March release. Jane’s Addiction guitarist and musical outlaw Dave Navarro has reportedly signed on to guest star in the last two episodes of this season’s ‘Sons of Anarchy’ TV show. According to the Hollywood Reporter , his character will be a member of the Byz-Lats gang, affiliated with Nero Padilla, the “companionator” played by actor Jimmy Smits. Navarro is no stranger to the world of tattoos and debauchery, so he should fit right in with the gang on the FX smash hit. In addition to ‘SOA,’ Navarro is currently starring as one of the judges on the second season of Spike TV’s ‘Ink Master,’ a reality show seeking out the best tattoo artists in the biz. But let’s not forget the music! Closing out the Sons of Anarchy season in rockin’ fashion, Jane’s Addiction’s cover of the Rolling Stones’ ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ will also make an appearance during the Season 5 finale, so tune in to check it out. Twiiter: josemangin Randy Blythe is not wasting any time getting back into the swing of things after his recent extended stay in a Czech Republic prison. Lamb of God kick off their U.S. headlining tour later this month and now the fearless frontman is getting his own monthly radio show. Blythe’s new show will be called ‘The Crucible’ and will debut on SiriusXM’s Liquid Metal channel. With a format of music mixed with a healthy dose of talk, Blythe will combine the songs that have helped shape him throughout his life in addition to showcasing new artists. He’ll also be sharing his own stories while interviewing other bands of the genre, as well. In a statement released earlier today (Oct. 15) Blythe talks about how the new radio show came to be and what fans can expect [ via The PRP ]: “The reason I came to NYC was to record the first installment of my radio show for Sirius/XM’s Liquid Metal channel. That’s right, I have my own damn radio show now. My homeboy @JoseMangin (who has done a lot for lamb if god since the start) hit me up & said- “Um, dude, do you want a radio show?” WHY NOT? I have decided to call my show THE CRUCIBLE. Besides being a fantastic play by Arthur Miller (and a container that holds MOLTEN METAL), a crucible is defined as a difficult or trying experience, one that you come out of harder and more refined & more pure. Sometimes life is like that- you have to step into the fire to burn away all the crap & and just take the pain that comes with it. It hurts, but if you want to be A BETTER PERSON, you face this stuff & forge yourself anew, PURER & HARDER. One thing that has always helped me through these times is MUSIC. So on my show, I’ll be playing songs by bands that have helped shape me into the man that I am today, that have gotten me through the rough shit. This will be Metallica’s first concert in New Orleans since 2008, so needless to say there is a lot of excitement around the announcement . With Green Day pulling out of the festival due to lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong ‘s entrance into rehab, Hammett looks at the concert as more than just filling an open slot. “I’m very honored that we’re able to help our friends in Green Day,” he says. “I wish Billie Joe the best of luck, we’ll do anything to help them out. It’s great to be able to help him out.” What can fans expect from the show? “It’s such a recent development, so we haven’t really discussed what we’re going to do yet,” Hammett explains honestly. “New Orleans during Halloween, I’m really excited about that. I love New Orleans, I love the voodoo folklore, I love the vampire folklore. It should be pretty interesting.” With the recent release of Hammett’s book that chronicles his horror movie memorabilia collection, ‘ Too Much Horror Business ,’ there’s no doubt that fans are in for a treat on Halloween weekend in New Orleans. The 14th annual Voodoo Music + Arts Experience kicks off on Oct. 26 and runs through Oct. 28. Metallica will be headlining the Oct. 27 date. SoundgardenWorld.com Soundgarden ’s new album ‘King Animal’ is due out on Nov. 13 and fans received their first taste of what’s in store with the disc’s debut single ‘Been Away Too Long.’ According to the band, the new tune is a very literal take on their extended absence and return to music. In a new interview with OnstageWeb frontman Chris Cornell and bassist Ben Shepherd sat down to talk about their break up, reuniting, the first single, and today’s music scene. The first thing they tackle is the single ‘Been Away Too Long. When asked what it really means, Cornell responded, “It means that a group, in this case personified by Soundgarden, has been away and the length of that away time has suddenly become maybe overextended.” He continued, “So been away too long, like thank God we’re back now. It seems like it might have been a little bit too long for us to be gone.” On the reason why Soundgarden broke up in 1997, Cornell explains it was everything but the music, saying, “We broke up because we were bored of the periphery, all of the things that are outside of the band playing music and writing songs, playing shows – that part got really boring.” Shepherd chimed in as well, adding, “The part that is outside of writing songs and playing shows. So it wasn’t the Soundgarden thing, it was the outside of Soundgarden.” In the absence of Soundgarden, both seemed surprised that a new rock revival hasn’t taken over. “I always expected that after we broke up or even maybe before we broke up that there should be or would be some very vital scene, numerous interesting rock bands that are kind of taking the history of rock music and making it their own,” explained Cornell. “Updating it and making it their own vital thing like a child with a new toy.” Check out the full interview with Cornell and Shepherd below. However, the late Kurt Cobain ‘s 20-year-old daughter seems to pop into headlines every once in a while for reasons of which she has no control. On Saturday (Oct. 13), a man was arrested for breaking into Frances Bean’s Los Angeles home after a house sitter discovered him inside the dwelling, reports TMZ . The suspect, a white man in his 20s, told the house sitter that he was there with Frances Bean’s permission. However, when cops arrived at the Hollywood Hills home and reached out to Frances Bean, she told them she had no idea who he was. The man was subsequently arrested for burglary and remains in custody. Earlier this year, Franced Bean unwittingly made headlines when her mother, Courtney Love , accused Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl of hitting on her daughter. Love later apologized to her daughter after both Frances Bean and Grohl lashed out at the claims. Victory Records In our recent in depth interview with Taproot frontman Stephen Richards, he spoke candidly about his bout with seizures and how his medical issues have affected touring and his performance onstage. The band released their fifth studio album, ‘The Episodes,’ earlier this year, and Richards tells Loudwire that his health condition will likely influence the songwriting on Taproot’s future music releases. “I think from now on, unless they give me some miracle pill that fixed everything, it will definitely lend itself to upcoming material.” He goes on to speak about ‘The Episodes’ by saying, “The crazy thing is, this record we wrote in late 2006 early 2007 and then we put it on the back burner to release our fourth record, ‘Our Long Road Home,’ so we’ve been sitting on it for a while. We wanted to make sure we got it out and Victory Records was totally on board and really supportive of us.” Richards continues, “It’s kind of weird that literally at the beginning of the record is a guy waking up not knowing where he is and what the hell is going on, and then when we released the record I collapsed in the kitchen and woke up in a hospital around people I wouldn’t expect to see, not sure if I had made it through alive or what was going on. So it’s been kind of a trip with the parallel of my own situation personally. I’m just hoping I’m still alive and everything’s real. [Laughs]” Despite his condition, Richards out on the road with the rest of Taproot.
