Soundgarden Stream New Album ‘King Animal’ Ahead of November 13 Release

Seven Four Entertainment/Republic It’s been an awfully long time between new albums for Soundgarden , but the band’s comeback disc ‘King Animal’ is almost here — and thanks to iTunes, we can actually hear it a week ahead of its release. While ‘King Animal’ won’t officially arrive in stores until next Tuesday (Nov. 13), iTunes is offering a free stream of the full album now (click on link below). And although it isn’t exactly the complete listening experience — you can’t skip between tracks, and the stream doesn’t provide song titles — it’s still a nice surprise for the fans who have been waiting more than 15 years for a new record from the band. The ‘King Animal’ stream follows months of buildup for the reunion album, starting with the release of the ‘Avengers’ soundtrack anthem ‘ Live to Rise ‘ over the summer, and continuing with teases and streams of an assortment of other tracks, including ‘ Worse Dreams ,’ ‘ Been Away Too Long ,’ and ‘ Non-State Actor ‘ — as well as the announcement of an expanded edition , complete with bonus tracks, that will be available exclusively at Best Buy. In the weeks and months to come, fans also have a North American tour to look forward to — but today, just crank up ‘King Animal’ and see if you agree with frontman Chris Cornell ‘s assertion that Soundgarden’s current creative vibe is “almost like it was in the beginning of the band.” [button href=”http://bit.ly/KingAnimaliTunes” title=”Listen to Soundgarden’s ‘King Animal’ at iTunes” align=”center”] Note: Outside the U.S. and Canada, ‘King Animal’ can be streamed at NME.com . Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine Receives Marine Corps Flag Dedication

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Megadeth ‘s Dave Mustaine is one of the biggest supporters of America’s military out there, so the frontman definitely took it to heart when Lieutenant Colonel Stephen D. Sklenka of the U.S. Marine Corps dedicated an American flag that was flown over Camp Leatherneck in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in his honor. Mustaine remarked, “Besides getting married and the birth of my two children, I have never been more proud than this moment. To all of our servicemen and servicewomen, I love you all, and THIS American supports our troops!” On hisĀ  Facebook account , the metal frontman posted photos of the dedication, the letter he received from Sklenka , the flag itself, and what appears to be a gold plated bottle opener that were all presented to him as part of the ceremony. The dedication declaration can be seen below. Another thing Mustaine supports is his right to free speech, which he used this summer to suggest to an audience in Singapore that some of the mass shootings over the summer were “ staged ” to help President Obama pass a gun ban. He’s also argued that Obama was “ born somewhere else than America .” Dave Mustaine recently made it to the quarterfinals of our President of Heavy Metal election , but lost out to Rob Zombie. Slayer’s Tom Araya Discusses Progress on Intense New Album

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Slayer have sparingly worked on new music this year, focusing mostly on their touring with the Mayhem Festival, but according to singer Tom Araya, the group is working hard to make sure their twelfth studio album arrives next year. Araya tells Seven Sisters Post , “We are working on a new album, aiming for a 2013 release. We are experimenting with a lot of sounds. What we can tell you is that the new album will be very Slayer.” The vocalist says that even though they are now elder statesmen in the world of metal, it hasn’t mellowed them out any. He adds, “We have maintained our signature intensity, which is the heavy and fast. Age, huh? Slayer has lived up to its signature intense music and crazy lyrics for the last 30 years with every new album that we come out with.” Over the summer, guitarist Kerry King had stated that while it was still early in the process, the fact that fellow guitarist Jeff Hanneman was still recovering from the flesh-eating spider bite had no role in their progression. The guitarist stated that they had secured engineer Greg Fidelman for a 12-day window that yielded two new songs, with several other tracks in various forms of completion, but that it was his hope that the band would block out some time in October to fully attack the record. At present, there are four late October shows in India and Japan, and then nothing on their tour schedule until the Soundwave Festival in February 2013.
