Saxophonist Kenny G’s Son Max Gorelick Shreds on Guitar in YouTube Clip

YouTube / Ethan Miller, Getty Images This may seem like an odd story for us to be reporting, but believe us when we say it … Kenny G’s son absolutely shreds on guitar. Yes, that Kenny G. Don’t believe us? We’ve got the proof right here. Max Gorelick is the son of the curly haired smooth jazz saxophonist, who has somehow sold over 75 million albums worldwide and has been the butt of an endless amount of jokes in his time. Regardless, musical prowess definitely runs in the family, as demonstrated by Gorelick’s shredding for a YouTube-based Mayones / Seymour Duncan guitar solo contest . Polish guitar company Mayones and Seymour Duncan pickups are hosting the contest, where the player of the sickest solo will win a brand new Mayones Reguis 7 Custom guitar. The worldwide competition will also award the five finalists with a set of Seymour Duncan pickups. Even  Megadeth  gave Gorelick their stamp of approval via Facebook , by posting, “His dad may live in your elevator, but Kenny G’s kid shreds!” Not a bad endorsement at all, especially when Megadeth share the video with their 5 million Facebook fans. Check out Max Gorelick’s guitar work for yourself in the video below. Kenny G’s Son Max Gorelick Shreds!

Metallica Obsessed Couple Announce Birth of Baby Orion

Facebook: Metallica Metallica fans Dennis Ortiz and his wife Annette Ortiz-Diaz created quite an Internet buzz when they got hitched in 2010. After making their entrance as a married couple, the two joined the wedding band to jam Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’ at their own wedding reception and the video, seen below, went viral. Both Dennis and Annette are seasoned musicians both with many bands under their belt. According to Blabbermouth.net , Dennis even had a Metallica tribute band called Trapped Under Rice, showing his allegiance to the band. When Metallica played their week of intimate fan club shows at the Fillmore in San Francisco, Calif., last year, Dennis and Annette even had the opportunity to join the band that inspired them so much. During the Dec. 10, 2011, show, drummer Lars Ulrich played their video and invited them up onstage. Annette took over the drum kit while Ulrich recorded the video for the excited couple and then joined in on a second kit. The two were performed ‘Blackened’ from ‘…And Justice for All’ live with the band. Now, the metal inspired Mr. and Mrs. are back with a very special new video, announcing the birth of their son, aptly named Dax Orion Diaz. The birth announcement starts off with video clips of Annette behind the drum kit with her baby bump, playing the classic Metallica tune ‘Orion.’ It ends on a happy note, with “The birth of a Metal God” showing baby Dax Orion Diaz in the hospital shortly after his arrival. Congrats to the faithful Metallica fans on the new addition to the family; check out the videos below. Queens of the Stone Age Get Their Spinal Tap on in ‘Secrets of the Sound’ Mockumentary

YouTube Queens of the Stone Age are in the process of finishing up their next album, but took time out of their schedule to give fans a little insight (or perhaps none at all) on exactly how the disc is coming along in a new mockumentary short inspired, in part, by ‘This Is Spinal Tap.’ The band, taking a jab at how many “behind the scenes” features there are concerning acts and the music making process, filmed the humorous 9-minute clip with hosts Matt Berry and Steve Agee. Berry and Agee venture to the band’s studio to film their ‘Secrets of the Sound’ segment, but find the group a little less than cooperative. Bassist Mike Shuman can’t be bothered to remove his headphones to answer a question. Troy Van Leeuwen seems more concerned with preening in front of a bathroom mirror before giving a straight answer. And multi-instrumentalist Dean Fertita simply sprays Agee with lilac-scented spray before storming off after one question. The bulk of the info comes from frontman  Josh Homme , who admits that he’s not sure about all of the instruments in their studio, reveals that a fan sent in a human ear at their request so they could test out the way things sound, and he also reveals that he’s the Encino Chapter head of the Patrick Swayze fan club. So there you have it — everything you never thought you wanted to know about Queens of the Stone Age and their forthcoming album. Meanwhile, we can tell you that the band has Dave Grohl playing drums on the new disc, with contributions from Nine Inch Nails mastermind  Trent Reznor , former QOTSA member  Nick Oliveri and Scissor Sisters singer  Jake Shears . Soundgarden Recruit Dave Grohl to Direct Video for ‘By Crooked Steps’

Soundgarden: Official Instagram When Dave Grohl isn’t working on his ‘Sound City’ documentary and jamming with Foo Fighters , Queens of the Stone Age , Them Crooked Vultures, his former Nirvana bandmates or Paul McCartney , he’s hanging out with his friends in Soundgarden to direct the band’s latest video. Perhaps the hardest working man in the world of rock, Dave Grohl’s latest project is behind the camera, directing Soundgarden’s upcoming video for ‘By Crooked Steps.’ Not a great deal of information has been released about the video’s concept, but through a number of pictures posted on Soundgarden’s Instagram page , ‘By Crooked Steps’ will showcase a biker theme. Following a motorcycle club called “Crooked Steps,” the patches on the back of biker gang members depicts the grim reaper armed with his trusty scythe, and if you look closely, you’ll even see some patches with a middle finger flipping the bird. Scenes depicted in the available still images show frontman Chris Cornell playing a rousing game of cards, some seedy dive bar moments and shots of Soundgarden performing ‘By Crooked Steps.’ Soundgarden are set to embark on a 2013 North American tour, beginning in New York City on Jan. 16 and concluding in Los Angeles on Feb. 16. Slash Confirms Participation in Upcoming ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ Video Game

Jo Hale, Getty Pictures Slash has been keeping busy of late while focusing his energies on another offshoot of his music career. The guitar great confirmed his participation in the upcoming ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ video game in a new Twitter posting . Video games like ‘Rock Band’ and ‘Guitar Hero’ were great in both drawing attention to a wide variety of bands and in some cases providing an entry point for some beginners to explore their interest in playing an instrument. However, one common bone of contention amongst those who play music for a living was that these games were not quite what the real experience was like. That’s where ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ comes in. The game boasts “industry standard tablature animated for an authentic experience.” Between one and four players can take part at the same time, playing along to the music as it would typically be read by musicians as they learned themselves. Slash says in his posting, “Hands down, best guitar game.” In addition, musicians like Slash, Zakk Wylde and bass great Bootsy Collins have filmed their own tutorials within the game teaching the players how to play certain tracks. But don’t worry about keeping up with these real life master musicians, as the game supports all skill levels — from the first-time player to professional musicians. The game features 55 songs on the disc from acts like Rush , Pantera , Pearl Jam , Jane’s Addiction and more and much like some of the guitar video game predecessors, there is a career mode where you advance to different challenges the better you perform. The ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ video game is expected for Xbox and PlayStation 3 this coming spring. You can watch a trailer for the game below.
