Voivod Postpone Tour Dates While Frontman Denis ‘Snake’ Belanger Deals With Diverticulitis

Century Media Records Voivod ‘s long road supporting their ‘Target Earth’ album was just getting underway, but at least several dates on their run will not happen as scheduled. The band has announced a series of postponed dates while their frontman, Denis ‘Snake’ Belanger, undergoes a procedure to deal with diverticulitis. For those unaware, diverticulitis is a common digestive disorder in which the formation of pouches within the large intestine just outside of the colon become inflamed, leading to discomfort and pain, as well as a number of other symptoms like fever and nausea. The band’s Facebook posting on the situation reads as follows: show cancellations!!! Voivod has had to postpone any shows for the immediate future as Snake needs 4-6 weeks rest due to a procedure for diverticulitis, a common digestive disease. This affects the MS Benefit in Ottawa and the SXSW shows, this should not affect the Santiago, Chile MetalFest appearance in April More tour news to be announced shortly. Stay tuned to see if and when Voivod reschedule the lost dates. In the interim, fans in Chile can begin to look forward to the band’s return to the stage. Voivod, ‘Target Earth’ – Exclusive Album Stream

Century Media Records Canadian heavy metal veterans Voivod are celebrating their 30th anniversary with a new album set for release on Jan. 22. What’s that? You can’t wait until the 22nd to hear the new record! Settle down, because we’ve got some great news for you; Voivod’s thirteenth studio album, ‘Target Earth,’ is available for streaming in full exclusively here on Loudwire. Voivod were founded in late January 1983, so it’s only right that the Canadian outfit celebrate late January 2013 with a new release. Along with the band’s 30th anniversary, ‘Target Earth’ celebrates Voivod’s debut release on Century Media Records. The label is teaming up with Voivod’s own company, Iron Gang Factory, to distribute the disc. ‘Target Earth’ marks the return of the band’s original bassist, Jean Yves Thériault (Blacky), making the album his first with the band since 1991′s Angel Rat . If you remember, ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted was a member of Voivod from 2002 to 2008. In addition, ‘Target Earth’ marks the first album to feature guitarist Dan Mongrain (Chewy), who took over the slot vacated by the late, great Denis D’Amour (Piggy). The lineup is rounded out by original members Denis Belanger (Snake) on vocals and Michel Langevin (Away) on drums. Voivod Unveil Teaser Single from Upcoming Album ‘Target Earth’

Century Media Records Back when Canadian progressive metal legends Voivod started in the early ’80s, cell phones were in their infancy and smart phones were far in the future. 30 years later, Voivod is releasing a smart phone app along with a teaser of their upcoming single ‘Mechanical Mind.’ The band’s 13th studio album ‘Target Earth’ is set to be released Jan. 22, 2013, in North America, marking Voivod’s 30th anniversary. Voivod’s company Iron Gang Factory is joining with Century Media Records to release ‘Target Earth.’ “Our goal has been to find a partner for Iron Gang Factory to help get new Voivod music to the world and Century Media, we are proud to say, is the right company to do so globally,” the band said. “We can’t wait to release, tour, and promote ‘Target Earth.’” Voivod’s current lineup includes vocalist Dennis ‘Snake’ Belanger, bassist Jean-Yves ‘Blacky’ Theriault, drummer Michel ‘Away’ Langevin and guitarist Daniel ‘Chewy’ Mongrain. Mongrain joined the band after the death of guitarist Denis ‘Piggy’ D’Amour. It will be the first time since 1991′s ‘Angel Rat’ that Snake, Blacky and Away will appear on a studio album together. ‘Mechanical Mind’ will be released as a digital single and 7″ vinyl on Oct. 9. The vinyl has the Voivod skull etching by Away (who is also an artist) as the b-side. The free Voivod mobile app gives fans access to the band’s songs, music videos, live interviews, news, upcoming live events and more. It is available for iPhone, Android and Blackberry. Voivod will kick off a  European Tour in the U.K. on Oct. 3. The trek will take them through several countries, wrapping up in Helsinki, Finland, on Oct. 31.
