Suicidal Tendencies Announce 2013 Tour Dates in Support of New Album

Theo Wargo, Getty Images It’s time to start stocking up on extra padding as Suicidal Tendencies have announced their impending return with a brand-new full-length album and a full-on tour to follow. The band will release their ‘Who’s Afraid?’ album on March 26 and you can bet the group’s ninth release is filled with all the energy and fury of its predecessors. Details on the disc are scarce at this point, but it’s likely that the group will incorporate songs from the album into their set lists when they tour in April. Frontman ‘Cyco Miko’ Muir stated last year of their hopes for their new music, “The way we look at it is that next year will be the 30th anniversary of our first record. When we look at a record, we don’t want to have it sound like 2012. We want it to sound awesome 25 years from now, so when a kid who wasn’t even born when we made it listens to it, he’s like, ‘Damn, that’s a cool record!’” The group has dubbed their upcoming trek the ‘Slam City’ tour. It launches April 11 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco and runs through a May 12 finale in San Diego. Suicidal Tendencies revealed that DRI will be joining them for the first part of the run, with Sick of It All taking over as primary support on the back end. Meanwhile, Wake the Dead will serve as the opening act throughout the run and the band is teasing the possibility of another great band who they hope to have on board for the first four shows of the trek. Stay tuned. Steel Panther Banging Out New Album

Universal Heavy metal’s living (as of this post) legends Steel Panther have been making progress on their upcoming third full-length album. Since the release of ‘Balls Out’ in October 2011, Steel Panther presumably have been celebrating the album’s success with mountains of cocaine covered in groupies, but after finally coming down from the binge, the Los Angeles quartet are back in the studio. Steel Panther have been on a roll since their debut release, ‘Feel the Steel,’ in 2009. They’ve captured the hearts and naughty parts of fans worldwide, even gaining enough votes in our 2012 Loudwire Music Awards to be declared Live Act of the Year , beating out legends such as Metallica , Tool and Iron Maiden . The heavy metal re-innovators teased that they’ve started recording a new ralbum on Feb. 12, posting an in-studio picture of a soundboard along with the message, “So it begins…” Steel Panther drummer Stix Zadinia has completed tracking his drums for the yet-untitled record, and according to a series of tweets from Zadinia, rhythm guitars are also done, with bassist Lexxi Foxxx next in line to lay down his parts. NEWSFLASH: Rhythm guitars are DONE for new record. Bass begging tomorrow! This shit is gettin handled!!!!! — Stix Zadinia (@Stixzadinia) February 22, 2013 ? Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready Hoping for New Album ‘This Year, For Sure’

Jeff Gross, Getty Images While Pearl Jam have been taking their time with new music, it appears as though the immediacy of generating new music is starting to ramp up for the band. Guitarist Mike McCready tells Rolling Stone that the group hopes to have their next album out “this year, for sure.” Speaking about the disc’s current status, he told the magazine, “We’re working on demos right now and we’re going to be recording soon. What everybody’s been saying is ‘ halfway done .’ I think that’s true — we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie [Vedder] brings in, so we’ll weed through those too.” McCready’s bandmate, Stone Gossard, recently suggested a “ nine-to-twelve month ” wait until a new album would be ready. The guitarist says he’s reluctant to discuss the album’s direction yet, adding, “What I can say won’t make any sense until you hear it.” However, he did offer, “I would say as a cliché answer, it’s kind of a logical extension of what ‘Backspacer’ was. But I think there’s a little more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.” The band met with producer Brendan O’Brien earlier this year and will resume work with their longtime knob-turner in the coming months. In the downtime though, McCready is free to pursue other passions. The guitarist is traveling to New Orleans to play ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and run a half-marathon in support of former Saints player Steve Gleason, who is battling ALS. Chris Jericho, Scott Ian, Zakk Wylde, Lzzy Hale + More Star in 2013 Revolver Golden Gods Spot

Revolver Lord knows that many of the musicians taking part in this year’s Revolver Golden Gods have done their fair share of interviews overs the years, but in the commercial for the 2013 ceremony, they get to experience life from the other side of the microphone in what amounts to the world’s most metal press conference. The awesome and hilarious commercial finds host Chris Jericho concluding a press conference and then taking questions from “the media.” However, the media for this event are some very well known faces, with everyone from Anthrax ‘s Scott Ian to Halestorm ‘s Lzzy Hale throwing questions at the host. The spot offers a who’s who of the hard rock and metal genres, with Ian, Five Finger Death Punch ‘s Jeremy Spencer, Zakk Wylde , John 5 , In This Moment ‘s Maria Brink, Hale and Sebastian Bach all having speaking parts while various other members of Five Finger Death Punch, Halestorm and other bands can be seen in the background. The commercial in general offers a humorous look at not only some of the talent playing this year’s ceremony, but also mentions some of the major names like Metallica and Rob Zombie that will be receiving honors. The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards show takes place at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia May 2 and will air on AXS TV, XBOX Live and Facebook . For ticket information, click here . Casting Call: Who Should Play Black Sabbath in a Movie?

Chris Walter/WireImage Bringing the story of Black Sabbath to the big screen is no easy task. If ever the film gods decide to make a movie about the Godfathers of Heavy Metal, they’d have a tough task ahead of them. Whether it be the band’s iconic singer Ozzy Osbourne or legendary guitarist Tony Iommi, the actors portraying them have to be just right for the role. We’ve assembled a list of four actors who we think would do the band proud if ever a Black Sabbath biopic went into production. Check out our choices to play the original members of Black Sabbath below: Ozzy Osbourne Played by Colin Farrell Chris Walter, WireImage / Vittorio Zunino Celotto, Getty Images As the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne is one of most notorious figures in heavy metal history. To capture Ozzy’s wild side, you need an actor who has a bad-boy reputation — and who better to take on the role than Colin Farrell ? While he may not be a dead ringer for Ozzy, the Irish actor does possess a few of the rock icon’s facial features. However, in this case, the selection of Farrell is more about personality than looks, and we feel he’s got the full package to portray Osbourne in a movie. ? Tony Iommi Played by Christian Bale Chris Walter, WireImage / Jason Merritt, Getty Images Tony Iommi is often credited as the inventor of heavy metal. His guitar riffs revolutionized music and set in motion a whole new genre of music. That said, you need an accomplished actor to portray Iommi, and our pick is the Dark Knight himself, British actor Christian Bale . Again, not a striking resemblance, but Bale has been known to transform into his characters, so we see no problem with him taking on the role of a heavy metal genius. ? Geezer Butler Played by James McAvoy Chris Walter, WireImage / Frederick M. Brown, Getty Images As the chief lyricist in Black Sabbath, bassist Geezer Butler needs to be played by an intellectual type. We nominate James McAvoy of such films as ‘Atonement,’ ‘Wanted’ and ‘X-Men: First Class.’ Not only does the Scottish thespian seem like a smart dude, he also looks remarkably like the young Geezer Butler. With a few bass lessons and a few books on the occult, McAvoy should be well on his way to taking on the role of Butler. ? Bill Ward Played by Tom Hardy Chris Walter, WireImage / Gareth Cattermole, Getty Images For heavy-hitting drummer Bill Ward , we need a powerful actor who can pound the skins with authority. While casting the guy who played ‘Dark Knight Rises’ villain Bane might stir up trouble with Christian Bale’s portrayal of Tony Iommi, we think Tom Hardy fits the ‘Bill’ extremely well. The British actor has shown his versatility as a boxer in ‘Warrior’ and a romantic spy in ‘This Means War,’ so he should have no problem rockin’ the role of Bill Ward if a Sabbath movie ever gets made. Who do you think should play the members of Black Sabbath in a movie? Do you like our choices? Any other suggestions? Shadows Fall Drop Off 2013 European + UK Tours

Razor & Tie Shadows Fall  had been set for a big spring overseas. The band had booked dates with Testament  in Europe and  Ill Nino  in the UK, but now they’ve bowed out of both of those tours.  Shadows Fall revealed that they were exiting the upcoming treks due to “a number of circumstances beyond our control.” It is unknown what those circumstances are. However, the band as a whole appears to be okay having just completed an early year tour with Hatebreed , Dying Fetus and The Contortionist . It is known that guitarist Jon Donais would be taking leave from the band over the next couple of months (with Shadows Fall’s encouragement) to play with Anthrax in Australia and on that group’s ‘Metal Alliance’ U.S. tour this spring. But it is not known if his absence played into the band bowing out of their overseas dates. The group offered their statement on the matter in a Facebook posting that reads as follows: Due to a number of circumstances beyond our control, Shadows Fall has been forced to cancel our upcoming European tour with Testament and our co-headlining UK run with Ill Niño. We tried everything we could to make this tour happen and exhausted all options we could think of but unfortunately we were not able to work it out. We sincerely apologize to all the fans, promoters and bands involved. Everyone in Shadows Fall thank you for understanding and we plan on making it up to our European fans as soon as possible. Shadows Fall have been promoting their ‘ Fire From the Sky ‘ album, which dropped last May. The disc has already spawned the title track and the follow-up single ‘ The Unknown .’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/shadows-fall-thoughts-without-words-top-21st-century-metal-songs/” title=”Next: Shadows Fall – Top 21st Century Metal Songs” align=”center”]
