Liz Ramanand, Loudwire While snow was covering New York’s Time Square outside, things were heating up in the Best Buy Theater on Wednesday night (Nov. 7) with high energy from fans who stood in the messy cold weather to see Falling In Reverse , Enter Shikari and Letlive. The phenomenal opening act Letlive performed with enormous amounts of passion and force. Their sincerity and intensity onstage was refreshing to see, not to mention the band’s very acrobatic frontman Jason Aalon Butler doing back flips and front flips and everything in between. Letlive’s set had the essence of an old school 90’s punk show at CBGB’s and for a New York crowd their presence was an invigorating one to see. The UK lads of Enter Shikari always get fans jumping and their blood pumping especially with a vigorous set like theirs. The band has found an infectious balance of mixing a hardcore and metal style with electronic, dubstep feel that heightens the force of their set. Bassist Chris Batten has a knack for jumping into the crowd and the entire band of English men have some very fancy footwork. You can’t talk about fancy foot work without talking about Falling in Reverse frontman Ronnie Radke, who can move with the best of them. FIR’s set started out with the very personal song ‘The Westerner’ which led into catchy singles ‘I’m Not a Vampire,’ ‘Pick Up the Phone,’ ‘Good Girls Bad Guys’ and much more off of the band’s debut record ‘The Drug In Me Is You.’ Falling In Reverse also played a cover of ‘Situations’ from Radke’s former band Escape the Fate. Even though I See Stars were kicked off the tour, a few of their die-hard fans showed up. And despite the “I See Stars” chant, Radke didn’t seem to fazed by any of it as he thanked his diehard New York fans for trekking out to the show during a Nor’easter. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Thursday (Nov. 8) was a day for family and friends to pay their final respects to late Suicide Silence frontman Mitch Lucker , as the musician was laid to rest following a funeral service. The 28-year-old metal vocalist passed away on Halloween night in California from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. He leaves behind a wife and daughter. Lucker’s bandmates in Suicide Silence have been among those most in shock over the tragic death, and bassist Dan Kenny took the lead in reaching out to the band’s fan base from the ceremony with a tweet. He wrote: Had to bury my brother today, he looked peaceful when I saw him. It was very hard but it was needed! To the fans just know Mitch loved yall — Dan Kenny (@DanKenny) November 8, 2012 Sumerian Records founder Ash Avildsen also offered his account of the ceremony via a pair of tweets — one of which featured the funeral program. The other tweet suggested that it was emotion rather than drinking that led to Lucker’s demise. They can be seen below: you went out like a fuckin legend because you are one. thank you for everything. live life hard. one love. y instagr.am/p/RyHSnnP3uF/ — ash avildsen (@ashavildsen) November 8, 2012 @ svitzzzzz he didnt ride away on his bike because he was drunk. it was in a fit of rage. anger is a very dangerous thing.emotions killed him — ash avildsen (@ashavildsen) November 8, 2012 The members of Suicide Silence have started a donation page to help provide for Lucker’s daughter. Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com As part of the continued ramp up to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘ Greatest Hits ‘ album, original band members Brad Arnold, Chris Henderson and Todd Harrell are reflecting on the songs and videos that paved the way for their success. The group is once again teaming with Loudwire to showcase the video vignette reflecting on the clip for one of their earliest hit singles, ‘Loser.’ In the piece, guitarist Chris Henderson takes the lead, talking about what it was like to be a new band and having to shoot music videos for the first time. He explains that ‘Loser’ was the first time that he was actually given a solo shot in a music video and the nerves that went into that shoot. Henderson gives his account of things in the vignette below. ‘Loser’ was the second single from the band’s 2000 debut disc, ‘The Better Life,’ and after the huge success of ‘Kryptonite,’ it showed that the band was not going to be a one-hit wonder. Years later, there’s a lot of 3 Doors Down hits, including ‘ Duck and Run ,’ ‘Be Like That,’ ‘ When I’m Gone ,’ ‘Here Without You,’ and ‘It’s Not My Time’ among others. All of those tracks are featured on the forthcoming ‘Greatest Hits’ collection, due Nov. 19. 3 Doors Down will support the upcoming release with a late 2012 co-headlining trek with Daughtry . The tour gets under way with the band’s annual ‘The Better Life’ Foundation concert Nov. 17 in Tunica, Miss., and concludes Dec. 15 in Anaheim, Calif. YouTube Black Dahlia Murder are in the midst of a lineup change, with drummer Shannon Lucas leaving the band to pursue outside projects. The split appears to be amicable though, as Lucas says he will continue to support the band as best he can and was instrumental in naming his replacement. In a video posting, Lucas states, “Some of you may have heard that I was sitting out on the current Dethklok tour. That is correct. I’m also stepping back from BDM to pursue some other things in life. Filling in right now is a kid named Alan Cassidy. He played for Abigail Williams for a little while and he is an outstanding drummer. I was active in helping the band pick him as a fill-in. There’s no permanent member yet. Alan’s just filling in for now. He plays the parts just like they are on the record and he’s an outstanding drummer, so if you go see him, show him some love. He’s a good dude.” Lucas went on to thank the fans for coming to the show, buying tickets and merchandise and supporting their albums. As for the group he’s leaving behind, the drummer adds, “I wanna thank the band for giving me some of the best years of my life and records that I am very, very proud to be a part of. I’ve always loved BDM and I will always continue to be in the background and help them out, watch them grow, further their career and put out more records.” At present, Lucas says he’s booked January studio time to track drums on a project he has with Killswitch Engage ‘s Adam Dutkiewicz and Cannibal Corpse ‘s George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher. He’s also got a grind project that will follow that’s expected to feature some name players. And on the business side, he and his wife are building up to the launch of a tattoo shop just outside of Richmond, Va. Columbia Records Trent Reznor fans were recently treated to ‘ Keep It Together ,’ the lead song from the ‘ An Omen ‘ EP from his How to Destroy Angels outfit. Now the full six-song disc has found its way online for fans to check out. Aside from the moody digitalism of ‘Keep It Together,’ the set includes such new standouts as the plucky and somewhat folky ‘Ice Age,’ Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig’s melodically mesmerizing showcase ‘On the Wing,’ and the vintage groove of ‘The Loop’ among others. ‘An Omen’ is serving at the precursor to a full-length disc that will follow. Though a title and release date for the album has not been announced, it is expected within the next year. The new EP drops in stores onTuesday (Nov. 13). Reznor recently revealed that How to Destroy Angels signed to a major label because of what it could offer them going forward, as he views the group reaching a different audience than just those who know him for Nine Inch Nails and needing a way to get new listeners. He explained , “The main reason I do what I do is I want to do something that matters. I want to be able to create art that reaches the maximum amount of people on my terms … That was a key component … Because it came down to us — us being the band now — sitting around and identifying what our goals were. And the top priority wasn’t to make money. It was to try to reach the most amount of people, and try to reach the most amount of people effectively, that doesn’t feel like it’s coming completely from my backyard. Because I don’t want this project, ultimately, to just be dismissed as a ‘side project’ or … (loud sigh) … a ‘patronizing affair with Trent and his wife.’ Sounds terrible, you know?” In other Trent Reznor news, the singer just revealed he’s begun working on Nine Inch Nails music and he’s also set to appear on the ‘ Call of Duty: Black Ops II ‘ soundtrack that arrives later this month.
