Avenged Sevenfold Unleash New Song ‘Carry On’ for ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ Video Game

Warner Bros. Records Avenged Sevenfold have kept a fairly low profile this year but they did find some time to contribute a new track for the latest edition in the ‘Call of Duty’ video game series. The new Avenged Sevenfold tune ‘Carry On’ will be featured in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ due out on Nov. 13. Fans don’t have to wait that long to hear the new song though – listen below. Avenged Sevenfold are no strangers to the ‘Call of Duty’ gaming series, crafting ‘Not Ready to Die’ in 2011 specifically for the game’s ‘Call of the Dead’ expansion pack. While nothing official has been released regarding the writing process for ‘Carry On,’ it sounds like it may have followed the same path, with the game’s story line serving as its inspiration. The speedy rocker starts off with raging guitar riffs courtesy of the dueling prowess of guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance before M. Shadows vocals kick off the epic tune of strength, spirit and power. ‘ Search endlessly, fight ‘til we’re free ,’ Shadows wails out over shredding guitar and pounding drums leading up to a massive guitar solo fit for a royal-as kicking. The vivid imagery that Avenged Sevenfold ceremoniously paint with their music seems to pair perfectly with modern-day video games so it’s no surprise that the ‘Call of Duty’ franchise came calling again. The song certainly provides something for fans to sink their teeth into as the band gets ready to work on a follow-up to 2010′s ‘Nightmare.’ Listen to Avenged Sevenfold’s ‘Carry On’

As I Lay Dying, ‘Awakened’ – Album Review

Metal Blade Records As I Lay Dying have been on the scene for more than a decade now, and they are back with their sixth studio album ‘Awakened.’ In the fickle, ever-changing world of trends and short attention spans, it can be difficult to build a lasting fan base, especially in the metalcore genre. However, AILD has managed to develop a sound that is consistent and recognizable. All the ingredients from past AILD albums are on ‘Awakened’ – a mix of harsh and melodic vocals, catchy hooks, palm-muted guitars and monster breakdowns. But, the band has refined and enhanced those ingredients, resulting in a highly polished  product. Eschewing a long intro or interlude, ‘Awakened’ begins with vocalist Tim Lambesis taking a breath, letting out a scream, then yelling ‘Go!’ ‘Cauterize’ gallops along for a bit, then eases back with melodic vocals from bassist Josh Gilbert. It has all the elements expected from a metalcore song, including a big breakdown, but it is executed so flawlessly and has so many catchy moments. Gang vocals are in full force on ‘A Greater Foundation,’ which is bound to get the crowd moving in a live setting. One area that has really improved on ‘Awakened’ is the guitar solos. Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa are showcased on several songs, with effective solos on songs such as “Resilience” and “Whispering Silence.” After working with Adam Dutkiewicz (Killswitch Engage) on their last two albums, As I Lay Dying turned to Bill Stevenson (NOFX, Black Flag) for their latest album. The sound on ‘Awakened’ is pristine without being sterile, and doesn’t dilute any of the heaviness or tone down the cranium rattling breakdowns. It’s hard for any band with screaming vocals to break into the mainstream, but AILD has songs that are very accessible. ‘Overcome’ has a memorable chorus and inspirational message along with plenty of punch that’s aggressive without being oppressive. Speaking of vocals, Lambesis steps up his performance on the album. He shows more diversity in terms of tone, emotion and intensity, while Gilbert’s delivers rock-solid clean vocals on the disc. ‘Awakened’ is not breaking new ground when it comes to metalcore music, but if you want an expertly executed, well-written album, As I Lay Dying deliver the goods.

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Seeking Treatment for Substance Abuse

Spencer Kaufman, Loudwire Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong will reportedly seek treatment for substance abuse following his meltdown onstage at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. At the show, Armstrong went into an expletive-filled tirade after noticing a clock that had counted down to one minute left in their set. At the time, the band was in the middle of their seventh song, ‘Basket Case,’ when Armstrong stopped mid-lyric to begin his rant over the time constraint. After unleashing a verbal assault on officials seated near the clock, and claiming he wasn’t “Justin f—ing Bieber,” the singer proceeded to smash his guitar, flip off those he thought were responsible, and vow to the crowd that Green Day would return before thanking the audience for dealing with the situation. The statement issued by a Green Day representative to E! News read: Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong is seeking treatment for substance abuse. Green Day would like everyone to know that their set was not cut short by Clear Channel and to apologize to those they offended at the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas. The band regretfully must postpone some of their upcoming promotional appearances. The incident comes shortly after the band had to cancel a show in Italy after Armstrong was hospitalized for an undisclosed illness. Mike Dirnt would later reveal that the singer was suffering symptoms of “severe dehydration” and had been vomiting prior to the show cancellation. The band’s new album, ‘¡Uno!,’ is due in stores this Tuesday (Sept. 25). The disc is currently streaming at the group’s Facebook page. Foo Fighters Deliver Classic Rock Favorites for Music Midtown Set

Frederick M. Brown / Justin Sullivan, Getty Images The Foo Fighters freshened things up by digging into the past with several classic rock covers Friday night (Sept. 21) during their headlining set at Atlanta’s Music Midtown festival. The event also gave them the opportunity to reprise their frequent cover of ‘Bad Reputation’ with the song’s originator, Joan Jett , who had played earlier in the day. The fans were treated to a healthy dose of the band’s ‘Wasting Light’ album early on, with ‘White Limo,’ ‘Rope,’ ‘Arlandria,’ ‘These Days,’ and ‘Walk’ among the first nine tracks of the night. But after that and such well placed hits as ‘All My Life,’ ‘The Pretender,’ ‘My Hero,’ and ‘Learn to Fly,’ the band mixed things up with their first cover of the night – Van Halen ‘s ‘Everybody Wants You.’ The blistering guitar work and audience reaction made this one of the highlights of the evening, as the Foo Fighters showed that even on someone’s else’s material, they’re a band on top of their game. Next up in the covers catalog was the group’s take on Pink Floyd ‘s ‘In the Flesh?’ The track has been a favorite cover over the past year or so with Taylor Hawkins leading the vocals rather than Dave Grohl . The last two covers of the night also leaned to the classic rock side, with Dave Grohl leading the band through the Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers classic ‘Breakdown’ first. With its moody beat, the Petty classic allowed the Foo Fighters a bit of a breather from their adrenaline fueled set. However, the mid-tempo break was quickly alleviated when Grohl and company introduced Jett. The singer, who has appeared several times with the Foo Fighters during the support of their latest album and even joined the band on the ‘Late Show with David Letterman,’ reprised the collaboration of ‘Bad Reputation’ for the Atlanta audience. With that performance bringing the audience to their feet, the Foo Fighters finished out the night with their longtime show closer, ‘Everlong.” Watch Foo Fighters Cover Van Halen’s ‘Everybody Wants Some’ Watch Foo Fighters and Joan Jett Perform ‘Bad Reputation’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/foo-fighters-frontman-dave-grohl-downplays-reports-of-band-hiatus/” title=”Next: Foo Fighters Downplay Hiatus Talk” align=”center”]

Linkin Park Become First Rock Band to Surpass One Billion YouTube Views

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Congrats are in order for Linkin Park , whose fans just helped the group become the first rock band to surpass one billion YouTube views. At present, there are only three other acts to have reached the milestone, each of them pop stars. Justin Bieber leads the way with 2.8 billion YouTube views, followed by Rihanna and Lady Gaga . The fact that Linkin Park have reached the goal is not only a credit to their music, but also to the video work they’ve done over the years, most of which came courtesy of the band’s DJ, Joseph Hahn. The musician began to explore the visual side of his career by co-directing the videos for ‘Papercut’ and ‘In the End’ with acclaimed director Nathan “Karma” Cox. From there, he assumed much of the band’s video-making responsibilities, overseeing the shoots for ‘Somewhere I Belong,’ ‘Numb,’ ‘What I’ve Done,’ ‘Bleed It Out,’ ‘New Divide,’ ‘Waiting for the End,’ and ‘Burn It Down’ among others. It may be a while before another rock band reaches the billion mark, as Gigwise reports that the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day are next in line with 327 million and 245 million respectively. You can add to Linkin Park’s YouTube total by checking out their latest Honda Civic Tour video posting. In it, the band welcomes a new guitarist – none other than Incubus ‘ Mike Einziger. As a precaution, you see the members warning Einziger about their pyro as the song he’s guesting on has fire emerging from the stage at a very specific point. Watch the video below.
