Mike Lawrie, Getty Images Scott Weiland is back in the creative spirit, working on new music, though it is not known as of yet where it will turn up. The singer is also reportedly mapping out some tour dates for 2013, with an announcement expected soon. Longtime Weiland cohort Doug Grean revealed in a Facebook posting that he was “working on new songs with Scott Weiland today,” which might suggest a new Weiland solo album is in the works. Grean previously worked with Weiland on his ‘Happy in Galoshes’ disc. In addition, Weiland’s Facebook page has a banner teasing that more dates for 2013 would be coming soon. Recently, Slash revealed that Weiland’s overtures toward reuniting with Velvet Revolver were falling on deaf ears and that he never saw a situation where he would work with Weiland again. In addition, the guitarist stated that Weiland’s sudden interest in reuniting with VR may have been spurred by him being fired from Stone Temple Pilots . As a solo artist, Weiland has been responsible for 1998′s ’12 Bar Blues’ and 2008′s ‘Happy in Galoshes,’ as well as the holiday-themed album, ‘The Most Wonderful Time of the Year,’ which arrived in 2011. Ian Gavan, Getty Images Lostprophets frontman Ian Watkins will remain behind bars after the Cardiff Crown Court denied his appeal for bail Thursday (Jan. 10). The Mirror reports that the singer, who was arrested late last year for alleged sex offenses relating to minors, appeared via video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend and Judge Eleri Reese denied his plea. With the ruling, Watkins will now remain in custody until at least his next plea hearing, which is scheduled for later this month. The vocalist has been charged with two incidents of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two young children and another four offenses of possessing and distributing indecent images of children. Watkins bandmates issued a statement at the time of his December arrest, explaining, “We find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers.” The band called off their scheduled tour after the singer’s arrest. The group has been supporting their 2012 album, ‘Weapons.’ [button href=”http://loudwire.com/lostprophets-vocalist-ian-watkins-to-remain-in-police-custody-on-child-sex-charges/” title=”Next: Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Held in Police Custody” align=”center”] ?
Ethan Miller / Theo Wargo, Getty Images The Loudwire Top 20 Countdown is back this week with a familiar face at No. 1. Shinedown ‘s hit song ‘Enemies’ is spending its third straight week on top and fourth week overall. With ‘Enemies’ still at No. 1, Avenged Sevenfold remain in a holding pattern at No. 2 with their quickly rising single, ‘Carry On.’ Meanwhile, Soundgarden ‘s slide out of the top five (they fall to No. 6 with ‘Been Away Too’) proved beneficial for three songs that all moved up a notch. All That Remains currently hold down the No. 3 position with ‘Stand Up,’ Volbeat scoot back up to No. 4 with ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ reaches its highest position yet at No. 5. Even though Soundgarden fell three notches, they weren’t the biggest dropper. That distinction goes to former Top 5 single ‘Standing in the Sun’ from Slash . It falls from No. 7 to No. 11 this week. The biggest risers belong to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light,’ Adelitas Way ‘s ‘Alive,’ Young Guns ‘ ‘Bones’ and Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow,’ all of which jumped up two spots this week. 3 Doors Down, Adelitas Way and Young Guns now hold down the No. 8-10 spots on the countdown, while Alice in Chains’ ‘Hollow’ leaps up from 18 to 16. This week’s chart also features the arrival of Hinder ‘s ‘Save Me,’ which lands at No. 18. Mark Metcalfe, Getty Images / Men’s Wearhouse In part three of the Dave Mustaine vs. Men’s Wearhouse saga, the Megadeth guitarist scored a mention on a big-time news program. On Jan. 8, the tale of Mustaine’s public statement about how Men’s Wearhouse messed up a delivery made it all the way to CNN program ‘Anderson Cooper 360′ and the show’s ‘RidicuList’ segment. It was on a cold winter’s day that Dave Mustaine, filled with Christmas spirit, purchased a thoughtful present for Megadeth tour manager Jim Carroccio in the form of a gift certificate to Men’s Wearhouse. Unfortunately, the gift certificate wasn’t delivered on time, resulting in an amusing yet serious rant from the mind of Dave Mustaine posted on Megadeth’s Facebook page. Men’s Wearhouse apologized to Mustaine for the mishap, and CNN jumped in to cover the entire story. CNN host Anderson Cooper gave props to Mustaine for his hard work, legacy as one of thrash metal’s most important artists and even showcased a clip of Mustaine explaining the music theory behind the diminished fifth chord, also known as the “Devil’s Tritone.” Although Mustaine was given said respect, Anderson Cooper offered the witty line, “We are all old. You know that you’re old when one of the founding members of Metallica is upset about a customer service issue with a Men’s Wearhouse in Salt Lake City.” According to Cooper, Men’s Wearhouse did not respond to CNN inquiries about the debacle, leaving the host to playfully state, “Maybe they only like to tweet pioneers of thrash speed metal.” Funnily enough, Mustaine recently blasted CNN for claiming he still had a feud going with Metallica. This is actually the second time Dave Mustaine has been featured on ‘The RidicuList,’ so after you check out the CNN piece on the Mustaine vs. Men’s battle in the video below, click here for Mustaine’s first time on the list. Kevin Winter, Getty Images Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has once again taken to his computer keyboard to share his beliefs with all who will listen. The subjects of Mustaine’s many posts via social media platforms have been both diverse and controversial, and this time, Mustaine has been talking to his fans about “chemtrails.” The theory of chemtrails is a belief that our world is being sprayed with various chemicals via aircraft for unknown reasons. However, one theory is that these chemtrails are being used to affect our climate. We’ve all seen the white trails that airplanes can leave behind while in-flight; these lines have been dubbed called “contrails” by aircraft specialists. It is universally agreed within the scientific community that contrails are most often made of water, triggered by the water vapor in the exhaust of an aircraft engine. Despite scientific consensus, there is still a contingent of people that believe these aircrafts are spraying chemicals such as aluminum oxide and barium salts into our atmosphere. Mustaine addressed his chemtrails belief in a set of tweets on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, respectively: Shame on the pilots spraying the grid lines in the once beautiful skies of San Diego. Shame, shame, shame! — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 5, 2013 It’s aluminum oxides & barium salts. They know what their cargo is. Only a fool or an accomplice would argue the unarguable. #chemtrails — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 6, 2013 Mustaine also recently used his Twitter page to blast an CNN article posted on Jan. 4, detailing the Megadeth frontman’s tiff with Men’s Wearhouse . The CNN writer ended his piece by stating, “Mustaine still holds a grudge against the more successful Metallica .” The shredder tweeted: Get yer facts right @ cnn ! I don’t still have a grudge w/Metallica, but I do w/you now. Guess ya missed the Big 4 tour? twitter.com/DaveMustaine/s… — Dave Mustaine (@DaveMustaine) January 7, 2013 Do you think Mustaine’s opinions on chemtrails have merit or are they based in an unfounded conspiracy theory?
