Killswitch Engage Post Video For ‘In Due Time’

I think just about everyone who got into metal through the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement of the 00′s is excited for the new Killswitch Engage album Disarm the Descent. The album sees the return of original vocalist Jesse Leach, who sang on their breakout record Alive or Just Breathing. The album’s leading single ‘ In Due Time ‘ seemed to bring excitement to its peak, confirming that the band seemed to be reaching a new peak that the band hasn’t seen in a few years. It’s a damn catchy track, and it’s good to hear Jesse back in the ranks. The video for the song was posted online this week, and it’s actually not all that special on the surface. There’s some standard performance footage and some meta-shots that makes the music video about how they filmed the music video you’re currently watching. Yeah. But the important thing is that everyone seems like they’re having a good time jamming on a new song with an old friend, and after some possible doubt and worry about the band’s future following previous vocalist Howard Jones’ exit from the band, it’s a good sign. Maybe I’m reading too far into subtext that might not be there, but at any rate, it’s good to see that things are looking up for Killswitch. Disarm the Descent will be available April 2nd on Roadrunner Records. – JR

Anthrax / Slayer Fill-in Drummer Cites Charlie Benante + Dave Lombardo as Big Influences

Facebook: Jon Dette Drummer Jon Dette’s name has been surfacing a lot more in the news lately as he’s landed a pair of high profile fill-in gigs for Anthrax and Slayer , two acts he’s played with previously. Dette recently spoke with ‘The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show’ at the NAMM Convention (video below) just weeks before his offers to join Anthrax and Slayer for dates became wide public knowledge. Dette, who is mostly known for his work with Testament , will sit behind the kit for both Anthrax and Slayer on each band’s respective tours of Australia and he says there’s nothing but respect for the two men whose chair he’ll be filling in the coming months. He explained, “ Charlie [Benante] is one of my biggest influences ever, next to [Dave] Lombardo .” The drummer first sat in with Anthrax last year , taking over for Shadows Fall ‘s Jason Bittner when Benante was unable to tour. The Anthrax skinbeater personally called Dette to fill in, and the drummer recalls, “It was kind of a surreal moment for me to get a call like that, saying, ‘Hey can you help me out?’ Which of course I said, ‘Absolutely.’ I just went and did a Europe tour with Anthrax and Motorhead and now I’m getting ready to actually head off to India and Australia with them in February and March.” As for Slayer, Dette’s stint with the band came between Paul Bostaph and the return of Dave Lombardo behind the kit. He recalls, “Slayer is one of those bands I’ve been playing forever, and so it was so natural, and I think we really felt that when we were in a room together.” Speaking about his past experience, he added, “[There were] so many business things that I got to learn — just the music business in general, good and bad. But, again, just to have the opportunity to play for one of my all-time favorite bands and see the back of their heads every night … I’d like to think I did it justice at the time I was with the band and it was just an amazing experience.” Watch Jon Dette Discuss His History With Anthrax + Slayer [button href=”http://loudwire.com/decibel-magazine-tour-2013-must-see-metal-concerts/” title=”Next: Check Out 2013’s Must-See Metal Concerts” align=”center”]

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich + Snowboarder Pat Moore Discuss New Vans Shoe

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Metallica ‘s recent Vans shoes video series is now complete with drummer Lars Ulrich meeting with snowboarding great Pat Moore to spend some time on the slopes and discuss the creation of Ulrich’s newly designed Vans shoe. In the clip, Ulrich and Moore seem to be having a great day skiing and boarding. Moore talks metal with Ulrich and revealed that even though snowboarding may seem to be a peaceful sport, he gets himself amped up with some hard rocking. He explains, “I’m full metal, dude, and if I’m snowboarding, I’ll put in my music and if I’m listening to metal, I get so juiced. It’s dangerous.” After some time racing down the hill, the pair meet up for a fireside chat, where Ulrich discusses the creation of his new Metallica Era Laceless shoe. The drummer explains, “The last couple of years I’ve been getting into footwear that’s kind of laceless. And so when these guys asked what I wanted to do, I didn’t hesitate. I have this line with Tama where I make these snare drums that are made out of diamond plate and that’s kind of my signature, so you’ve got the diamond plate here [on the side] and the Metallica logo and the little cartoony silly Lars in there (inner sole) … and doing the bottom black and just had a great, easy, kind of effortless shoe.” The rocker shared his creative involvement, explaining, “I sat with the drawings and sat with the team and six months later these magically appeared, like in my lap. It’s like, ‘Oh cool, I have my own Vans shoe. How f—ing cool is that?’” Ulrich’s Vans video follows recent clips from James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo , in which the musicians met with skater Steve Caballero, pro surfer Nathan Fletcher and Vans team skater Tony Trujillo. Suicidal Tendencies Announce 2013 Tour Dates in Support of New Album

Theo Wargo, Getty Images It’s time to start stocking up on extra padding as Suicidal Tendencies have announced their impending return with a brand-new full-length album and a full-on tour to follow. The band will release their ‘Who’s Afraid?’ album on March 26 and you can bet the group’s ninth release is filled with all the energy and fury of its predecessors. Details on the disc are scarce at this point, but it’s likely that the group will incorporate songs from the album into their set lists when they tour in April. Frontman ‘Cyco Miko’ Muir stated last year of their hopes for their new music, “The way we look at it is that next year will be the 30th anniversary of our first record. When we look at a record, we don’t want to have it sound like 2012. We want it to sound awesome 25 years from now, so when a kid who wasn’t even born when we made it listens to it, he’s like, ‘Damn, that’s a cool record!’” The group has dubbed their upcoming trek the ‘Slam City’ tour. It launches April 11 at the Regency Ballroom in San Francisco and runs through a May 12 finale in San Diego. Suicidal Tendencies revealed that DRI will be joining them for the first part of the run, with Sick of It All taking over as primary support on the back end. Meanwhile, Wake the Dead will serve as the opening act throughout the run and the band is teasing the possibility of another great band who they hope to have on board for the first four shows of the trek. Stay tuned. Anthrax Cover AC/DC’s ‘T.N.T.’ – Exclusive Song Premiere

MegaForce Records Ever since Anthrax first hinted at a potential covers disc last year, there’s been plenty of anticipation of what the metal icons might take on. Now we know the classics tracks that the group have recorded for the upcoming ‘Anthems’ EP, and Loudwire is proud to premiere Anthrax’s ripping performance of AC/DC ‘s ‘T.N.T.’ in advance of the disc’s March 19 street date. Drummer Charlie Benante tells us, “Back in the day, when we would do encores we would play AC/DC’s ‘Whole Lotta Rosie.’ We never recorded it back then, but when we were in the studio making ‘Worship Music,’ we decided we wanted to. But [singer] Joey [Belladonna] really wanted to do ‘T.N.T.’ He felt it was more in his style, and he knew the song backwards and forwards, so we recorded that, and it’s great.” Benante goes on to add, “We recorded the track in Chicago and in Los Angeles [and] the sessions were really easy, felt really good. The thing about ‘T.N.T.’ for me is that there’s not a lot of drumming on it. So the challenge for me was to not go crazy with fills, but to pay tribute to the original recording, and keep it AC/DC.” Anthrax does exactly that, keeping it to the rocking core of the AC/DC classic, but even though Benante says there’s not much for him to do, at the end of the track there’s the all-out free-for-all for the entire group as the band raises the tempo for the song’s explosive finish. Anthrax’s ‘Anthems’ also features the band’s covers of Rush ‘s ‘Anthem,’ Thin Lizzy ‘s ‘Jailbreak,’ Boston ‘s ‘Smokin” and Journey ‘s ‘Keep on Runnin” among others. In addition to ‘Anthems” cover art, Benante and artist Stephen Thompson have subtly redesigned each track’s original album cover art to “Anthrax” it. The ‘Anthems’ EP will first be housed in one of the “re-imagined” digipak covers, and then inserted inside the main CD cover sleeve. The main cover sleeve has been designed in such a way so fans will be able to see which one of the six “re-imagined” covers is inside. Look for Anthrax’s ‘Anthems’ on March 19.
