All That Remains’ Phil Labonte Says Homophobic Slur Is ‘Just a Word’

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Late last year, All That Remains singer Phil Labonte raised a few eyebrows when using the word “f–got” while talking about a song competition between his band and Black Veil Brides. At the time, he was referencing a photo split that featured himself and the glammed out singer of Black Veil Brides , Andy Biersack. The vocalist later clarified his comments and with some distance now between the remarks, he’s commented further on the outrage over his usage of the term. In a recent issue of Revolver (excerpted by ThePrp.com ), Labonte says, “I don’t worry what people think about me. I’ll call everyone in my band a f–got and some people who read that get really butt-hurt. I just don’t know why. What happened to ‘Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will never hurt me’? I don’t advocate hurting someone’s feelings because of their sexual orientation, but at the same time, if it really offends you when someone says ‘f–got,’ you need to man up. It’s just a word.” At the time of the incident and pending backlash, Labonte criticized the metal media for latching onto one aspect and not telling the whole story, like his vocal support of gay rights. He adds in the new interview, “Passing laws against gay marriage is the most ridiculous thing that straight people do. That’s offensive to me, because they’re just people, and it certainly isn’t my right to go ahead and tell people how they can live or cannot live.” For all the hubbub over that incident last year, All That Remains have also done a lot of good. Just last month the band continued their support of the military by visiting a Marine Corps base around the Thanksgiving holiday. The group recently issued the video for ‘ Stand Up ‘ from their newly released ‘ A War You Cannot Win ‘ album. Nickelback’s ‘Photograph’ Turned Into Instagram Song Parody

Isaac Brekken, Getty Images Nickelback ‘s ‘Photograph’ was everywhere you turned a few years back, much like the Instagram photos that you happen to see posted across just about every social networking platform you can find today. So it makes perfect sense that ‘Photograph’ and Instagram are lumped together to create a new song parody. College Humor is behind the new song and video, ‘Look at This Instagram,’ which mocks the inane objects that people attempt to photograph using the filtered option on the camera phones. While the song takes a jab at the Instagram craze, Nickelback doesn’t exactly get off the hook either. Yes the lyrics are altered to fit the message, but the vocals are where the band gets knocked a bit. It’s obvious that the male and female leads of the clip have had their vocals manipulated to achieve the Chad Kroeger -like sound. So click play and watch as College Humor takes down two notable targets in one fell swoop with the ‘Look at This Instagram’ parody video. Music can be a listening pleasure as well as a visual experience, and for the 2012 Rock Video of the Year honors, we’ve got five clips that truly embrace the art form to enhance the stories told in song. It was a pretty aggressive and dark year for our finalists, as we’ve got some brutal beatings, violent and bizarre demises and alternate realities providing a haven for the video stars. You can check out the nominated videos, then be sure to vote for your favorite in the poll below: Chevelle, ‘Hats Off to the Bull’ Forgive Chevelle is they seem a little punchy. The band members took a beating during the filming of ‘Hats Off to the Bull,’ where they’re at the will of an [mostly] invisible foe who is having their way with them. ? Marilyn Manson ‘No Reflection’ Take Marilyn Manson , put him in a darkly lit room at a dinner table with numerous scantily clad women and you’ve got the makings of an attention-grabbing video. As expected with a Manson video, it’s equal parts erotic, horrific and in this case, deathly. ? Slash, ‘Bad Rain’ Slash ‘s slinky single ‘Bad Rain’ has strip club written all over it, but in the animated video for the track we get to see a more sinister version of the temptress and her ultimate motivations for cozying up to the customers and it’s not pretty. ? The Sword, ‘The Veil of Isis’ Leave it to The Sword to provide a fantastical tale of a young woman bogged down by the reality of her poor downtrodden world who is transported a magical land with the help of a street prophet in ‘The Veil of Isis’ clip. ? The Used, ‘I Come Alive’ The Used tell a dark and violent tale with their ‘I Come Alive’ video, which follows a young boy who is first beaten by his peers and then roughed up at home by his abusive father. But rather than take the beatings, he exacts a violent revenge on his tormentors. Voting for the 2012 Loudwire Music Awards closes on Jan. 15 at 11:59 PM EST. Machine Head’s Robb Flynn Offers Second Video Update Following Hernia Surgery

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Having surgery for a hernia is a painful process, and Machine Head ‘s Robb Flynn can attest to that. The rocker, who had emergency surgery earlier this week, has been documenting the process and sharing his recovery with fans via a video diary. The first installment showed Flynn coming out of the surgery successfully and feeling somewhat alright due in part to the drugs that were killing the pain he was experiencing. The second installment (watch below) finds Flynn a little bit worse for wear. In the new diary, we see a barely mobile Flynn struggling to stand up straight, and revealing, “I guess I was on a lot of pain meds when I left the hospital, because they’ve all worn off now. I’m really — it’s brutal.” Midway through the clip, the singer has had a difficult night trying to sleep and reveals that he couldn’t lift his left leg without excruciating pain. Even at his weakest, the rocker still kept his sense of humor, sharing, “I feel like I’ve been dry humping for a week with a girl who ain’t putting out.” Since this happened while the band was on tour, Flynn was left to wait out his recovery at a local hotel rather than flying home, and the musician admits that even though he was scheduled to fly that day, it likely wasn’t going to happen. After a bit of a time jump, the rocker leaves his room to show that the place where he was staying had a water park right outside. By the end of the video, Flynn seems noticeably better and admits that being able to step outside and take in what’s going on around him has lifted his spirits. The singer will continue his recovery and has hopes of Machine Head rejoining the tour with Dethklok that the band had started before the need for surgery occurred. However, it’s too early to establish a timetable for that happening as of yet.
