Guitarist Glen Drover Leaves Geoff Tate’s Queensryche Lineup

MagnaCarta.net / Andrew H. Walker, Getty Images Geoff Tate has yet to play his first gig with his newly created Queensryche lineup and already he’s down one member. Tate revealed earlier this year that former Megadeth and King Diamond guitarist Glen Drover would be part of his version of the band, but Drover has just announced his exit. Back in early September, Tate revealed that Drover would join Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer, former Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo, keyboardist Randy Gane, and Tate’s onetime Queensryche cohort Kelly Gray in a reconstructed lineup so that he could continue playing his band’s music after being ousted by the other Queensryche members earlier this year. Drover said in his exit statement: I am really sorry to say that I have decided to bow out of Geoff Tate’s Queensryche. I was very excited about doing this gig initially, but learned in the past week or so that it’s in my best interest not to do this right now. I feel really bad for those who were excited about the idea, and to Geoff himself, who, I have to say, was very nice to me on my past trip to Seattle. I, of course, am very disappointed for arriving at this point, and making this decision, to say the least. I sincerely wish the Geoff and the band all the luck on what they do in the future. Tate and his former bandmates have been locked in a legal battle over the rights to the Queensryche name and both have received permission from the presiding judge in the case to use the moniker until a final decision is rendered. At present, Tate is promoting his ‘ Kings & Thieves ‘ solo record, but he has hinted at touring with the new lineup next year. Queensryche Trailer Reveals Sound of First New Music With Frontman Todd La Torre

Loud & Proud Queensryche have spent most of the year in the headlines for their legal issues with now former frontman Geoff Tate , but the time has come to put the court issues on the backburner and get back to making music. Fans can now check out the first taste of what a Todd La Torre-led Queensryche will sound like thanks to a new trailer that’s surfaced online. Helping to build the buzz, the trailer begins with the simple wordage, “Remember now. Remember how it started.” What follows is a string of snippets of songs that show off the range of La Torre, who can hit some of the highest highs that Tate used to hit, but also use his low register as well. In addition, it’s clear that being without the frequent creative force hasn’t led Queensryche members Scott Rockenfield, Eddie Jackson and Michael Wilton too far off course. The longtime Queensryche trio, along with veteran guitarist Parker Lundgren who joined a few years back, stay true to the roots that the band created years ago, at least in the snippets heard in the trailer. The band has been working with producer James “Jimbo” Barton on their forthcoming release, and as the trailer states, the new album will be “coming soon.” Watch Queensryche’s New Album Teaser Trailer [button href=”http://loudwire.com/queensryche-vocalist-todd-la-torre-denies-using-geoff-tate-vocal-tracks-at-live-shows/” title=”Next: Queensryche Vocalist Denies Using Geoff Tate Backing Tracks” align=”center”]

Geoff Tate Wins Court Ruling to Continue Using Queensryche Name

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com There will continue to be two Queensryche s, at least for the time being, as a Washington state judge ruled Friday (Oct. 19) in favor of Geoff Tate , allowing the singer to perform with his own version of the group after being ousted from his former band earlier this year. Billboard reports that Superior Court Judge Carol A. Schapira denied a motion for a partial summary judgment that had been filed by guitarist Michael Wilton, drummer Scott Rockenfield and bassist Eddie Jackson last month attempting to keep Tate from using the name. Jackson stated in a recent interview with Billboard that the announcement of a Tate-led Queensryche lineup that was planning to tour and record led to confusion amongst their fans. Earlier this year, Tate’s attempts to keep his former bandmates from touring under the Queensryche name, but with a different vocalist, were denied . However, at the time of the July ruling, Schapira stated that there was not enough information given that would keep her from letting Tate use the moniker as well. The members of Queensryche issued a statement to Billboard which read: Queensryche is disappointed in the denial of the motion to prevent our former vocalist from using our name, but we respect the court’s decision to do so. That said, we apologize for any confusion to our fans that a second entity sharing our name may cause. We look forward to seeing all of you on the road and bringing you new Queensryche music in the near future. Thank you all for your continued support, and for now we will just have to let the rocking do the talking. Tate has also filed suit for wrongful termination, while the band countersued claiming creative obstruction and violent behavior. Should the cases proceed to trial without a settlement, the court date is set for Nov. 18, 2013.
