Jason Newsted Finishing First Record With New Self-Titled Band

NewstedHeavyMetal.com Jason Newsted recently re-announced his presence online with a new website and followed that with the revelation that he was fronting a new band that also shared his name. Now the former Metallica bassist has checked in online to let fans know that things are moving along quickly and that his band is close to finishing a new record. In his latest Facebook posting , Newsted reveals, “I am very happy in my life now! I have a new band that bears my own name. We’re just finishing our first record. I’m feeling strong again playing bass and singing lead vocals and you all will be hearing it in one month’s time!!! New year, new band, new life!!! Bless you all and I can’t wait to share my music with everyone!!! I’m entrusting all of my friends to get the word out!!! Jason’s back!!!” Speaking about his new band in a recent interview , Newsted stated, “I’ve thought about this for a long time, putting my name on a project other than just coming up with a clever name, like Echobrain or Papa Wheelie or something. We have a lot of cool names for projects, but this is the first time with my name and really trying to get out to the people that I played for by the millions in the past with Metallica.” As for the music, he added, “Whatever it ends up being — if it’s five songs, 20 songs, 50 songs … I don’t even know what the heck I’m gonna do. I have so much music from over the years. I have a bunch of new stuff … I’m just trying to figure out exactly what I wanna unleash on everybody first. That’s kind of what it’s coming down to — the timing of things and how I wanna hit people with it.” In his Facebook posting, Newsted also commented on his time with Metallica, adding, “I want y’all to know that I am ultra proud of my time in the band … I am thankful for the wonderful experiences of our 15 years together and I will always be open to jammin’ with the boys.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/best-metallica-songs/” title=”Next: 10 Best Metallica Songs” align=”center”]

Ex-Metallica Bassist Jason Newsted Details Plans for Musical Comeback

NewstedHeavyMetal.com As we reported Friday (Nov. 16), Jason Newsted  has reconnected with fans through a new website , but now the former  Metallica  bassist has laid out details of his musical comeback. In an appearance on the ’Friday Night Rocks’ radio show, Newsted revealed that he’s ready to rock more than just your Web browser. Blabbermouth has posted a transcript from Newsted’s chat with host Eddie Trunk, in which the bassist says he’s going to release material under the name Newsted Heavy Metal Music. “I’ve thought about this for a long time, putting my name on a project other than just coming up with a clever name, like Echobrain or Papa Wheelie or something,” explained Newsted. “We have a lot of cool names for projects, but this is the first time with my name and really trying to get out to the people that I played for by the millions in the past with Metallica.” He went on to say, “Whatever it ends up being — if it’s five songs, 20 songs, 50 songs … I don’t even know what the heck I’m gonna do. I have so much music from over the years. I have a bunch of new stuff … I’m just trying to figure out exactly what I wanna unleash on everybody first. That’s kind of what it’s coming down to — the timing of things and how I wanna hit people with it.” While assuring Trunk that he still thinks vinyl is “the most endearing and the most personal” format, so “I wanna make sure that that part is there,” Newsted sounds ready to take advantage of digital distribution by releasing a slew of shorter projects, a la the bands who are “doing four tracks at a time in EP form every few months, letting people have some fresh metal.” For Newsted, it’s a progression of his early days as a tape-trader, and the drive to share that he credits with getting him the Metallica gig in the first place. But instead of having to rely on tapes, envelopes, and postage, “Now I can do that with one push of a button and it’s a squillion people. I know about the labors and what it takes one at a time, and I’m not afraid to do that, but I know that I have the chance now, from all of my hard work for 30 years, I’m gonna be able to share with a bunch of people at once. Anybody that really gives a snot about the music and cares about what I’m doing, I wanna share with them.” All this renewed activity is the culmination of an odyssey that started when Newsted left Metallica over a decade ago. As he put it, “I did a very serious, reclusive deal. I built a ranch in Montana in the center of a forest of millions of acres of nothing. That kind of thing where I just said, ‘OK, screw it, man! I’m outta here.’ I went that far opposite of my connection with the people. It took me 12 years to come back to earth, and here I am now. And my big, black boots are on the ground and I’m ready to go.” Click here to view the full transcript of Newsted’s conversation with Eddie Trunk. Duff McKagan Regrets Not Receiving Royalties from ‘The Simpsons’ Beverage Duff Beer

Fox Last year, former Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver / Loaded bassist Duff McKagan revealed in his autobiography, ‘It’s So Easy: And Other Lies,’ that the iconic ‘Simpsons’ animated beverage Duff Beer was named after him. McKagan happily agreed for ‘The Simpsons’ to use his name, but now the bassist has admitted that he regrets not cashing in on the opportunity. McKagan writes in the book, “When Guns N’ Roses began to break into the public consciousness, I was known as a big drinker. A production company working on a new animated series called me to ask if they could use the name “Duff” for a brand of beer in the show. I laughed and said of course, no problem. The whole thing sounded like a low-rent art project or something — I mean, who made cartoons for adults? Little did I know that the show would become ‘The Simpsons’ and that within a few years I would start to see Duff Beer glasses and gear everywhere we toured.” Back when the young bassist gave the residents of Springfield permission to drink his namesake brew, McKagan admits that he wasn’t as business-minded as he should have been. “I knew nothing about branding yourself then or the royalties off it,” McKagan tells British newspaper The Independent . “I just thought cool, they wanna use my name and boom, ‘The Simpsons’ was born. Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time…but it’s fine.” Duff McKagan’s Loaded are set to perform a handful of dates in the coming months, including a Sunset Strip show with Social Distortion and some 2013 Soundwave Festival dates throughout Australia. Geoff Tate Wins Court Ruling to Continue Using Queensryche Name

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com There will continue to be two Queensryche s, at least for the time being, as a Washington state judge ruled Friday (Oct. 19) in favor of Geoff Tate , allowing the singer to perform with his own version of the group after being ousted from his former band earlier this year. Billboard reports that Superior Court Judge Carol A. Schapira denied a motion for a partial summary judgment that had been filed by guitarist Michael Wilton, drummer Scott Rockenfield and bassist Eddie Jackson last month attempting to keep Tate from using the name. Jackson stated in a recent interview with Billboard that the announcement of a Tate-led Queensryche lineup that was planning to tour and record led to confusion amongst their fans. Earlier this year, Tate’s attempts to keep his former bandmates from touring under the Queensryche name, but with a different vocalist, were denied . However, at the time of the July ruling, Schapira stated that there was not enough information given that would keep her from letting Tate use the moniker as well. The members of Queensryche issued a statement to Billboard which read: Queensryche is disappointed in the denial of the motion to prevent our former vocalist from using our name, but we respect the court’s decision to do so. That said, we apologize for any confusion to our fans that a second entity sharing our name may cause. We look forward to seeing all of you on the road and bringing you new Queensryche music in the near future. Thank you all for your continued support, and for now we will just have to let the rocking do the talking. Tate has also filed suit for wrongful termination, while the band countersued claiming creative obstruction and violent behavior. Should the cases proceed to trial without a settlement, the court date is set for Nov. 18, 2013. Queensryche Members Attempting to Stop Geoff Tate From Using Band Name

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com At present, there are two versions of  Queensryche  as a result of Geoff Tate ‘s ousting from the band and the inability of the courts to sort out all the legalities as of yet. Tate initially filed an injunction attempting to keep the rest of the band from using the name, but did not succeed. Now his former bandmates are turning the tables trying to keep Tate from doing the same with his reconstructed lineup . Billboard reports that a motion for partial summary judgment was filed Sept. 21 in Washington state’s King County Superior Court. Michael Wilton, Scott Rockenfield, and Eddie Jackson – Tate’s longtime bandmates – are asking the court to declare that the singer “has no right to the Queensryche band name, marks and media assets since he has no grant of authority from the TriRyche Corporation that owns them.” They request that unless Tate is able to succeed in dissolving the band’s organizations legally that he should not be allowed usage of the imagery. The singer does have a suit against the TriRyche Organization that also claims that they illegally fired him earlier this year and by doing so will do irreparable harm to the band’s brand name. Jackson told Billboard in a statement, “The recent announcement of a second Queensryche lineup, upcoming tour plans and new musical direction has caused some confusion for our fans. This confusion has caused Scott, Michael and I to file a motion against our former vocalist to prevent him from using the name Queensryche. Until now, we have never asked the court to intervene on our behalf but it seems like we have no choice now in light of Geoff’s recent actions. We thank the fans who have been supporting us through this whole process and can’t wait to unleash the one true Queensryche to the masses.” Tate recently revealed he had recruited Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo, Ratt drummer Bobby Blotzer, former Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover, ex-Queensryche guitarist Kelly Gray and keyboardist Randy Gane to fill out his lineup. The singer has a new solo record coming later this year and recently announced plans to tour with the new lineup, though it has not been revealed when those dates will take place.
