Mark Tremonti: New Alter Bridge Album To Be Packed With ‘High Energy’ Songs

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Mark Tremonti is currently winding down the latest North American tour leg for his self-titled band, and Alter Bridge  are about to become his primary focus. The guitarist tells Billboard that after meeting briefly earlier this year, the band is ready to resume work on a new disc and has the beginnings of the effort in place. He explained, “[We have] about five songs outlined [for the new album] … All of them are kind of real high-energy, just real fun rock/metal. We want to not be predictable. We want to make it a little surprising and we’re having fun with it.” At present, Alter Bridge are planning to regroup in late April and hope to begin recording their new album in earnest this summer, with a tour tentatively slated for September. As for the Tremonti band and their plans, the guitarist admits that he might line up some shows during breaks in Alter Bridge’s schedule, just as frontman Myles Kennedy is planning to do with Slash . “It’s always good when you’re recording a record to go take a break and come back,” says the guitarist. “That way you can make sure it’s still exciting and fresh to you.” The rocker says he’s also thinking about a second album from Tremonti, but admits that it will take a back seat to his other bands for the immediate future. “We’re going to just keep pushing the limits of what we can do,” says Tremonti. “We’ll try to be as heavy and progressive as we can without losing the vocal melodies and the reasons why most people listen to music. I don’t want to be just self-indulgent, but we want to have a lot of fun with it, too.” And as for his other band,  Creed , Tremonti simply states, “It’s Alter Bridge’s year.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/tremonti-wish-you-well-video/” title=”Next: Watch Tremonti’s ‘Wish You Well’ Video” align=”center”]

2013 Revolver Golden Gods Awards To Honor Metallica, Rob Zombie + Tony Iommi

Theo Wargo / Michael Loccisano / Paul Kane, Getty Images The fifth annual Revolver Golden Gods Award Show looks to be the event’s biggest ceremony to date, as Metallica , Rob Zombie and Tony Iommi will be among the honorees. This year’s Revolver Golden Gods takes place May 2 at Los Angeles’ Club Nokia and also features a headlining performance by Metallica. Metallica have been chosen to receive the Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, joining such past honorees as Rush , Motley Crue , Lemmy Kilmister and Ozzy Osbourne . Drummer Lars Ulrich stated, “Since the Revolver Golden Gods Awards is fast becoming THE most rocking awards ceremony in the hard rock world, we are beyond psyched to be at the receiving end of this shout out and in the distinguished company of Rush, Lemmy, Ozzy and Motley Crue. I was hanging out and presenting at the shenanigans two years ago and the energy in the room and the vibe backstage was beyond f—ing cool, so Metallica is chomping at the bit to partake in this year’s event.” The Golden God award, given to an honoree that embodies the spirit of hard rock and metal, will be presented to Rob Zombie this year. “What can I say?,” said Zombie. “It is a complete honor to receive this award and have my name join the list of such legendary past winners as Alice Cooper and Gene Simmons . Pretty cool deal to be part of the Golden God club.” The timing of the ceremony will also work well for Zombie, who also used the opportunity to announce that his next album, ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor,’ will drop April 23, followed by the release of his ‘Lords of Salem’ film on April 26. The night’s other major honoree, Black Sabbath ‘s Tony Iommi, will be adding the Riff Lord award to his mantelpiece. Iommi says, “What a great honor to receive the Golden Gods Riff Lord Award for 2013, especially with our new Sabbath album coming out. I hope there will be some new favorite riffs in these songs.” Last year’s winner of the Riff Lord honor was Slash . The evening will also feature performances from Metallica, Five Finger Death Punch , Anthrax , Stone Sour , Dillinger Escape Plan and Halestorm , with more acts expected to be added in the coming weeks. Fans can currently vote in 11 other categories (listed below) at goldengodsawards.com . Tickets for the show, which will once again be hosted by Fozzy frontman Chris Jericho , can be purchased here . Machine Head’s Robb Flynn Continues Acoustic Fascination With Solo Shows

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire Machine Head ‘s Robb Flynn has gotten a taste of playing acoustic over the last couple of months and he’s anxious to work in a few more performances. As such, the singer-guitarist has booked four acoustic performances this coming week in California. Flynn recently broke out the acoustic guitar for his collaborative performance of the Black Sabbath classic ‘Die Young’ at the Mitch Lucker Memorial Concert . The vocalist joined members of Suicide Silence in saluting their late vocalist by singing the track. He stated, “I was surprisingly nervous, maybe because it was the first time playing it live, maybe not being able to rely on my usual bravado/attitude/’roar’ was a bit daunting. It was three acoustics and a vocal, naked and all about the passion.” Emboldened by the experience, Flynn agreed to perform acoustically again at the recent Tony La Russa Animal Rescue Foundation benefit . This time he tried out a pair of tracks — the aforementioned ‘Die Young’ and a reworked acoustic version of ‘Darkness Within.” The vocalist stated of the experience, “‘Die Young’ went down good. I sang the end a lot better than at the Mitch [Lucker] benefit, and then came time for the debut of the acoustic version of ‘Darkness [Within],’ just me and an acoustic, no sing-alongs, no band to kick in the heavy — a new version I had never played live. It worked, it totally worked. I nailed most of it, was a little flat in some parts at the very end, but overall it felt good and I was proud of myself for taking up the challenge.” Feeling good about his recent acoustic attempts, the Machine Head leader will now play full acoustic sets for the four newly-announced shows. The set list is expected to include a mixture of cover songs and reworked Machine Head favorites. All the shows are in the southern California vicinity, coinciding with the various Machine Head members’ upcoming appearances at the NAMM convention . Flynn, in particular, will be playing an acoustic performance at Epiphone Booth Friday (Jan. 25) at 4PM PT, and he’ll join Phil Demmel in a signing session at the EMG Booth at 11AM PT Saturday (Jan. 26) Robb Flynn Acoustic Shows: 1/21 — Hollywood, Calif. — On the Rox 1/23 — Riverside, Calif. — Mission Tobacco Lounge 1/24 — San Diego, Calif. — Brick by Brick 1/26 — Fullerton, Calif. — Slidebar Rock-N-Roll Kitchen [button href=”http://loudwire.com/machine-head-robb-flynn-hernia-surgery-new-live-album-2013-plans/” title=”Next: Robb Flynn Discusses Hernia Surgery + 2013 Plans” align=”center”]

How to Destroy Angels To Release Debut Album ‘Welcome Oblivion’ in March

Facebook: How to Destroy Angels After teasing fans in recent years with a pair of EPs,  How to Destroy Angels have revealed their plans for their first full-length album. The group, featuring Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor , revealed in a posting at their website that the new disc, titled ‘Welcome Oblivion,’ is expected on March 5. While that was all that was revealed about the long-anticipated album, the group has dug a little deeper into 2012′s ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, with a trippy new video for the track ‘The Loop Closes.’ Just as the song is filled with all sorts of digital blips and bleeps, the accompanying video offers something visually similar, with quick cutting and often blurred or mangled images of animals, natural disasters, eyeballs, human limbs and even the shadowy faces of the band’s members. The video can be seen below. The clip follows the band’s more story-driven video for ‘ Ice Age ,’ which arrived last fall. That promo found the band members in a remote cabin, with singer Mariqueen Maandig looking out the window as the climate began to shift into something similar to the song’s title. Speaking about How to Destroy Angels last year, Trent Reznor explained, “We’ve just been chipping away at this thing, and it’s been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into that doesn’t fit the other containers. It’s been fun.” Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘The Loop Closes’ Video [button href=”http://loudwire.com/trent-reznor-how-to-destroy-angels-new-single-keep-it-together/” title=”Next: Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘Keep It Together’ Video” align=”center”]

DJ Lethal Returns to Limp Bizkit After Posting Apology via Twitter

Ryan Pierse, Getty Images It seems that all is right in the world of  Limp Bizkit  again, as estranged member  DJ Lethal has returned to the band after apologizing for his actions during a feud that had lasted several months. DJ Lethal had recently gone on a Twitter tirade about Bizkit. In one particular tweet, Lethal posted , “I hate a–holes that judge me for leaving a ‘band’ I was in for 15 years. Your like a f-n moose that got lucky!! F— Fred Durst. I was talented and was an artist [long] before u even knew who Fred was. If [you’re] gonna be a #wigger, than do your homework. #houseofpain b-tch!” Luckily for Bizkit fans, the battle seems to have been brought to a halt, as DJ Lethal once again went to Twitter on Oct. 10. Here is a compilation of a series of Tweets from the turntablist: I want to clear the air about limp bizkit. I have had some personal issues over the last few years that have led to some outbursts. I lot of the things I said about the band and fred was out of pain and anger. None of which I really meant deep down inside. So I think I owe it to fred,Wes,sam and john and the fans to really admit the truth. I had some problems. Be it partying on the road. Talking shit when I was drunk and causing internal conflicts. Today is the day that I can finally be a man and step up and say I’m sorry. The rants are done. And were really embarrassing. I think the guys in the band were actually looking out,I really needed a wake up call. So to finally come clean is really hard but the weight of the world on my shoulders is even harder to carry around. I’m in a great place now and want to thank everyone who had my back through the dark times. So to all the fans and the band. I really was fkd up for a while. I’m sorry. Fred and the band are great people. We’re all human. All love!! Feels great to finally step up to the plate. I hope we can resolve our issues because I miss my friends and band mates. FC Ty for his help. The guys in our band are true gentlemen. Giving me a second chance after the stupid shit I talked and the way I acted really shows class.LBF Now it’s time to step up to the plate and I’m hitting this ball out of the park. I was wondering how it would To be back. AMAZING!grateful” In response, Bizkit guitarist Wes Borland tweeted out a big virtual kiss to Lethal, simply writing , “Muah! @djlethal.” And in Lethal’s latest Tweet, posted Sunday (Oct. 14), he stated that he would be hitting the studio with Bizkit to write songs for their upcoming album.
