Metallica vs. Avenged Sevenfold – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Semifinals

Loudwire Rock Bowl Semifinals Well, isn’t this an interesting matchup? Metallica ‘s ‘Seek and Destroy’ squares off against Avenged Sevenfold ‘s ‘Seize the Day’ to determine which act will advance to the finals of the 2013 Loudwire Bowl. Two very different songs, but each with a title that helps define football. Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ has enjoyed a relatively easy patch to the semifinals, besting Volbeat’s ‘A Warrior’s Call’ in the first round earning 71 percent of the vote and staving off Papa Roach’s ‘Last Resort’ in the quarterfinals with just shy of 64 percent of the final tally. As for ‘Seek and Destroy,’ the hard-hitting song has what it takes to amp up just about anyone and the talk of starting a fight is just the competitive spirit you want out of a football song. As for Avenged Sevenfold, they outlasted Shinedown’s ‘Devour’ in Round 1 by earning just shy of 64 percent of the vote. Then, in the quarterfinals, their fans rallied to boost them past Disturbed’s ‘Indestructible’ with 60 percent of the vote. Though the track may not be as hard as some of their competitors, the song is no less inspiring. Name an NFL player, especially during playoff time, that can’t identify with the sentiment “Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost.” The song rings true with the idea of making every moment count. Will ‘Seek and Destroy’ advance and survive or will ‘Seize the Day’ live up to its title? The battle begins now and you can vote once per hour to help ensure your favorite moves on to the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. Voting continues through this Friday (Feb. 1) at 10AM ET. Metallica vs. Volbeat – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Round 1

2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl You may need to strap on a helmet when you get a load of the songs in the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. We’re taking some of the hardest hitting tracks and pairing them off in order to determine the best song to get you amped for a football game. In this first-round matchup, we’re pitting Metallica ‘s classic ‘Seek and Destroy’ against the Danish rockers Volbeat and their recent hit ‘A Warrior’s Call.’ Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ is a natural choice, with its super-charged riffage, hard-hitting Lars Ulrich drums and a song title that might as well be a motto for most defensive players in the league as they attempt to take out the other team’s offensive weapons. As the song says at its kickoff, “ We’re scanning the scene / In the city tonight / We’re looking for you / To start up a fight .” Volbeat, meanwhile, provide what seems to be an anthem describing most football players’ mentality. ‘A Warrior’s Call’ stands out with its powerful drums and driving guitars gaining momentum right up until the song explodes. The lyrics also bring it home, with the motivational message “ Breaking your record and breaking your bones / Born a warrior with a code / A champion feeding your face with a fist / You will feel all his power! ” leading the way. The stage is set and now it’s your turn to tell us who advances. Check out each of the tracks below and vote for your favorite in the poll. Then click the red button at the bottom of this post to vote in the next Loudwire Rock Bowl match. Voting in the first round concludes this Sunday (Jan. 27) at 11:59PM ET. How to Destroy Angels To Release Debut Album ‘Welcome Oblivion’ in March

Facebook: How to Destroy Angels After teasing fans in recent years with a pair of EPs,  How to Destroy Angels have revealed their plans for their first full-length album. The group, featuring Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor , revealed in a posting at their website that the new disc, titled ‘Welcome Oblivion,’ is expected on March 5. While that was all that was revealed about the long-anticipated album, the group has dug a little deeper into 2012′s ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, with a trippy new video for the track ‘The Loop Closes.’ Just as the song is filled with all sorts of digital blips and bleeps, the accompanying video offers something visually similar, with quick cutting and often blurred or mangled images of animals, natural disasters, eyeballs, human limbs and even the shadowy faces of the band’s members. The video can be seen below. The clip follows the band’s more story-driven video for ‘ Ice Age ,’ which arrived last fall. That promo found the band members in a remote cabin, with singer Mariqueen Maandig looking out the window as the climate began to shift into something similar to the song’s title. Speaking about How to Destroy Angels last year, Trent Reznor explained, “We’ve just been chipping away at this thing, and it’s been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into that doesn’t fit the other containers. It’s been fun.” Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘The Loop Closes’ Video [button href=”http://loudwire.com/trent-reznor-how-to-destroy-angels-new-single-keep-it-together/” title=”Next: Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘Keep It Together’ Video” align=”center”]

How to Destroy Angels Unleash ‘Ice Age’ Video

Facebook: How To Destroy Angels How to Destroy Angels are off and running with their new ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, and they’ve now unleashed a video for the standout track ‘Ice Age.’ The clip really is more of a short film, clocking in at just over seven minutes with the group isolated in a log cabin. John Hillcoat, director of such films as ‘The Road’ and ‘Lawless,’ shot the promo for the band, which finds the members primarily shot in dark profiles as singer Mariqueen Maandig sings longingly into the distance while looking outside of the cabin’s window. Meanwhile, Trent Reznor , Atticus Ross, and Rob Sheridan give the song a rustic feel with a beat up piano, lap steel guitar, and a board filled with distortion effects providing the background. As Maandig continues looking out the window we eventually see outside as the waves crash in from the ocean, but a series of visual effects begin to turn things dark, shadowy and blurry with the cold starting to set in. ‘An Omen’ has provided a re-introduction for the group, who added Sheridan to the lineup since their first EP back in 2010. The band’s first full-length record is expected next year. Trent Reznor Reveals New Nine Inch Nails Material ‘In the Works’

Sean Gardner, Getty Images The news just keeps getting better for fans of Trent Reznor . While he has received many accolades for his soundtrack work over the last couple of years, fans have been longing for the return of Nine Inch Nails . Now comes word from Reznor himself that Nine Inch Nails are definitely back in action and working on new material. Reznor recently revealed that his How to Destroy Angels project would be arriving with new music, which led to questions about if and when the frontman would revive the band where he made his musical name. The Nine Inch Nails mastermind tells  Rolling Stone  in a new interview, “All signs point to yes. Yeah, there will be new music. There are some things in the works.” Not only could fans potentially see a new album or singles, but Reznor, who retired Nine Inch Nails from touring in 2009, revealed that there may be some shows, as well. When asked about the idea of performing, he explained, “Yeah, if it feels right. It’s a possibility. I never said that that wasn’t going to happen, just that it couldn’t go on as it was. Having a few years doing other things, I’ve enjoyed [them] and I’m enjoying doing How to Destroy Angels, and there will be a place for stuff that falls in the Nine Inch Nails column of things. It’s a different kind of work. Stay tuned. We’ll see what happens.” In other news, but Reznor has been working with the Beats by Dre company on “a number of very interesting projects.” He also provided the soundtrack to the new video game, ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops.’ As for How to Destroy Angels, we know that will come first as they’ve already revealed a Nov. 13 release for the ‘ An Omen ‘ EP. The group, which also features Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig and his music composing partner Atticus Ross, are also working on a full-length album that will follow early next year.
