Avenged Sevenfold Members Participate in 2013 ‘Duffing for Dollars’ Charity Golf Event

MSO Who wouldn’t enjoy a nice sunny day out on the golf course in the midst of winter? That’s exactly where Avenged Sevenfold ‘s Zacky Vengeance and M. Shadows could be found late last month, and they were there in the name of a good cause. The rockers joined a number of their musical pals in participating in the 2013 ‘Duffing for Dollars’ charity golf tournament and auction Jan. 28 in Mission Viejo, Calif., with the proceeds from the event going to Unite the United and the MusiCares charities. Music industry vets Kevin Lyman (Vans Warped Tour, Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival) and John Reese (Rockstar Energy Uproar Festival, Identity, SGE) staged the fourth annual event, which took in over $42,000 for the charities. Greg Ganzeria and the PEAKfresh team took home the title as the winning foursome, while the Avenged Sevenfold pairing finished second, tied with the Vans team. Specially crafted trophies were also given out to the participants in such categories as “Worst Team” and “Best Dressed.” In addition to the Avenged members, other participants included Limp Bizkit ‘s Fred Durst , NOFX’s Fat Mike and  No Doubt ‘s Adrian Young (both seen above with M. Shadows), As I Lay Dying ‘s Jordan Mancino, and the members of Forever the Sickest Kids. Pantera vs. Slipknot – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Semifinals

Loudwire Rock Bowl Semifinals You may need some padding after this 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl semifinal matchup is complete. It’s the circle-pit favorite ‘F—ing Hostile’ from Pantera squaring off the brutality of Slipknot ‘s own slamming anthem ‘Wait and Bleed.’ Pantera eeked out the narrowest of victories against Drowning Pool’s ‘Bodies’ in the first round, taking home 53 percent of the vote, but they had an easier time in the quarterfinals against Korn’s ‘Freak on a Leash,’ earning 72 percent of the final tally. With the full-force guitar work of Dimebag Darrell, Vinnie Paul’s speedy yet powerful beats, Rex Brown’s thumping bass line and Phil Anselmo’s pent-up aggression, this song is as energetic as they come and captures the fighting spirit represented on the football field. And speaking of aggression, Corey Taylor certainly delivers while singing about the hate rising up inside of him. Much like an NFL player psyched up for competition, Slipknot ‘s ‘Wait and Bleed’ comes out of the gate ready to erupt. ‘Wait and Bleed’ easily bested P.O.D.’s ‘Boom’ in round one with 71 percent of the vote, while Slipknot also had a decisive victory in the quarterfinals against Rob Zombie’s ‘Superbeast,’ with 72 percent of the final tally. It’s Pantera vs. Slipknot in a battle to advance to the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl semifinals and you can hear both songs below. Metallica vs. Avenged Sevenfold – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Semifinals

Loudwire Rock Bowl Semifinals Well, isn’t this an interesting matchup? Metallica ‘s ‘Seek and Destroy’ squares off against Avenged Sevenfold ‘s ‘Seize the Day’ to determine which act will advance to the finals of the 2013 Loudwire Bowl. Two very different songs, but each with a title that helps define football. Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’ has enjoyed a relatively easy patch to the semifinals, besting Volbeat’s ‘A Warrior’s Call’ in the first round earning 71 percent of the vote and staving off Papa Roach’s ‘Last Resort’ in the quarterfinals with just shy of 64 percent of the final tally. As for ‘Seek and Destroy,’ the hard-hitting song has what it takes to amp up just about anyone and the talk of starting a fight is just the competitive spirit you want out of a football song. As for Avenged Sevenfold, they outlasted Shinedown’s ‘Devour’ in Round 1 by earning just shy of 64 percent of the vote. Then, in the quarterfinals, their fans rallied to boost them past Disturbed’s ‘Indestructible’ with 60 percent of the vote. Though the track may not be as hard as some of their competitors, the song is no less inspiring. Name an NFL player, especially during playoff time, that can’t identify with the sentiment “Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost.” The song rings true with the idea of making every moment count. Will ‘Seek and Destroy’ advance and survive or will ‘Seize the Day’ live up to its title? The battle begins now and you can vote once per hour to help ensure your favorite moves on to the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. Voting continues through this Friday (Feb. 1) at 10AM ET. Disturbed vs. Avenged Sevenfold – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Quarterfinals

2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl Quarterfinals Disturbed against Avenged Sevenfold may be the toughest battle of the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl quarterfinals, as both bands won decisively against their opening round competition. Disturbed’s ‘Indestructible’ proved to be exactly that when facing off against Trapt’s determination anthem, ‘Headstrong.’ Recording just under three quarters (72 percent) of the total vote, Disturbed emerged victorious. And as we move forward, there’s little doubt that ‘Indestructible’ makes for a great football anthem, with David Draiman singing about “carrying the colors” and defending an oath. But do they have what it takes to be the “master of war” over Avenged Sevenfold? ‘Seize the Day’ is a pretty powerful message, so it’s no wonder their fans seized control of the voting fairly early on to distance themselves from Shinedown’s ‘Devour.’ The band received just shy of 64 percent of the final vote to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl. Will Avenged Sevenfold’s fans continue to “seize the day” and help the band advance to the semifinals? This should definitely be a tight matchup, so every vote counts. Top 20 Songs: Week of January 20-26, 2013

Liz Ramanand, Loudwire We’ve got some changes atop the Loudwire Top 20 Countdown this week as Avenged Sevenfold ‘s stay in the top spot was brief. The band’s ‘Carry On’ slips back to No. 2 this week, making way for Volbeat ‘s ‘Heaven Nor Hell’ to take over the No. 1 position. Both All That Remains ‘ ‘Stand Up’ and Chevelle ‘s ‘Same Old Trip’ hold steady in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively, while Deftones inch a notch closer to the top with ‘Tempest’ rounding out the Top 5 on this week’s countdown. Two former Top 5 songs take the biggest tumble this week. Soundgarden ‘s ‘Been Away Too Long’ drops from No. 10 down to No. 15, while Slash ‘s ‘Standing in the Sun’ hangs on the countdown at No. 20 after spending last week at No. 15. Meanwhile, Halestorm had the most meteoric rise, as the band climbed five big notches from No. 19 to No. 14 this week. The countdown also provided one new entry as Three Days Grace spent one week away before returning to the chart with the new track, ‘The High Road,’ which arrived at No. 17. Avenged Sevenfold vs. Shinedown – 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl, Round 1

Photos by Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com It’s an inspirational message versus an in-your-face proclamation in this 2013 Loudwire Rock Bowl matchup. This first round pairing sees Avenged Sevenfold attempting to ‘Seize the Day’ against Shinedown , who appear ready to ‘Devour’ their new foes. Though a little on the softer side than what we usually get from Avenged Sevenfold, ‘Seize the Day’ is no less powerful in message. The inspirational track warns the listener to “ Seize the day or die regretting the time you lost, ” a sentiment that isn’t lost on today’s NFL player. With such a shortened season as compared to other sports, it’s important to make every moment count and Avenged Sevenfold definitely connect with a football theme in the song. Shinedown’s ‘Devour,’ meanwhile, has that great opening build just waiting to explode. As Brent Smith sings about taking it and taking it and taking it over and over again, it’s no wonder that by the time we get to the chorus he’s ready to devour, proclaiming, “It’s your final hour.” If that doesn’t speak to the mentality and pressure of an NFL player, what does? So there you have it — Avenged Sevenfold versus Shinedown. Which band advances? Your vote will decide. Listen to both tracks below, then vote in the poll provided.
