Liz Ramanand, Loudwire We’ve got some changes atop the Loudwire Top 20 Countdown this week as Avenged Sevenfold ‘s stay in the top spot was brief. Two former Top 5 songs take the biggest tumble this week. Soundgarden ‘s ‘Been Away Too Long’ drops from No. 10 down to No. 15, while Slash ‘s ‘Standing in the Sun’ hangs on the countdown at No. 20 after spending last week at No. 15. Meanwhile, Halestorm had the most meteoric rise, as the band climbed five big notches from No. 19 to No. 14 this week. The countdown also provided one new entry as Three Days Grace spent one week away before returning to the chart with the new track, ‘The High Road,’ which arrived at No. 17. Shinedown ‘s hit song ‘Enemies’ is spending its third straight week on top and fourth week overall. With ‘Enemies’ still at No. 1, Avenged Sevenfold remain in a holding pattern at No. 2 with their quickly rising single, ‘Carry On.’ Meanwhile, Soundgarden ‘s slide out of the top five (they fall to No. 6 with ‘Been Away Too’) proved beneficial for three songs that all moved up a notch. Even though Soundgarden fell three notches, they weren’t the biggest dropper. That distinction goes to former Top 5 single ‘Standing in the Sun’ from Slash . It falls from No. 7 to No. 11 this week. The biggest risers belong to 3 Doors Down ‘s ‘One Light,’ Adelitas Way ‘s ‘Alive,’ Young Guns ‘ ‘Bones’ and Alice in Chains ‘ ‘Hollow,’ all of which jumped up two spots this week. 3 Doors Down, Adelitas Way and Young Guns now hold down the No. 8-10 spots on the countdown, while Alice in Chains’ ‘Hollow’ leaps up from 18 to 16. This week’s chart also features the arrival of Hinder ‘s ‘Save Me,’ which lands at No. 18. Avenged Sevenfold to Join Iron Maiden + Metallica at Rock in Rio 2013

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Avenged Sevenfold are starting to map out their 2013 plans that includes the likely release of a new album and a return to the road. One of the major stops on their upcoming itinerary will be at the Rock in Rio festival, which has become a favorite stopping place over the years. Singer M. Shadows told G1 that they’re anxious to join Iron Maiden and Metallica on the festival bill and will happily play alongside Maiden on the “Metal Day,” Sept. 22, 2013. The vocalist says, “I love Iron Maiden. We’ve done some touring with them in Europe. We are part of that case that each one has its specific fan base, but there are many people who like both the bands, who have the passion for metal [and] like this kind of sound. [We] can’t wait to be part of this festival. Luckily, I know the Brazilian fans of Iron Maiden like our music.” Avenged Sevenfold, a veteran of the 2008, 2010 and 2011 Rock in Rio festivals, says they may also use the festival as a springboard to play other shows in South America. Shadows says, “We’re talking to Metallica and Iron Maiden to [find out] what they will do before and after the Rock in Rio. So, there’s a chance to take the fall and make at least two more shows. We are still seeing [at this point].” The singer says the band is happy to have reached the stage that they are at, selling plenty of records despite not bowing to pop-rock to do so. Shadows explains, “It is possible and we’re not the only example. Iron Maiden and Metallica are two of the greatest bands of all time and [stayed away] from pop. Pantera did well on the charts and has one of the best selling albums of all-time. You have to build a fan club, have to do a good job in the alternative scene and then know how to grow it up. Pop music listeners will not buy our records. We just want to play heavy rock.” At present the band is working on a new record and they have the ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ song ‘ Carry On ‘ keeping fans interested while they complete the upcoming disc. He could easily lead his legions of fans into a coup d’etat of the entire world, but luckily, he seems to be content with making wine instead. Each member of Tool is a genuine master of their instrument, while acting as true visionaries through their songwriting, and this has created one of the most notable and naturally-acquired fan bases in history. ? X Japan We witnessed the rabid nature of X Japan fans during a run of Loudwire Cage Matches earlier this year. Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows Squashes Rumor of The Rev Cameo in ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’

Theo Wargo, Getty Images Avenged Sevenfold turn up as performing characters in the new ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ video game, but there have been a few people suggesting that late drummer The Rev also makes a guest appearance as a grainy figure in the balcony. However, singer M. Shadows says that any likeness to their drummer was purely unintentional and was not something they signed off on. He told Kerrang , “I’ve seen people saying this. The possibility of adding The Rev was mentioned, but it would have been too weird. Really, the last thing we would want to do is include him in something that he obviously has no say in. By this stage, we’re all about moving on. We love and miss The Rev, but it just wouldn’t feel right or appropriate to put him in the game.” In addition to the game, Avenged Sevenfold are currently in the process of working on a new record . Shadows says, “I’m incredibly proud of what we’re preparing. I know that in my heart of hearts what we’re working on is something special and we can stand tall behind this new music for the next year and however long.” The rocker adds, “There’s no point in going out there on the road and putting all your energy into something if you don’t believe in it wholeheartedly. What’s inspiring is how into this everyone is and how fired up we all are about making a kick ass new record.” The group added Arin Illejay on drums during the latter half of supporting their ‘Nightmare’ album, and Shadows reveals that Illejay has been involved in the writing process. Avenged Sevenfold’s M. Shadows: ‘We Have About Six Songs’ for New Album

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com There may have been questions at one point as to whether or not Avenged Sevenfold would continue after supporting the ‘Nightmare’ disc as a tribute to late drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, but the band is definitely progressing toward a new album. Singer M. Shadows tells The Pulse of Radio (excerpted by Blabbermouth ) that the band has resumed writing and has been working on new music since August. While keeping details close to the vest, Shadows offered, “I try not to say too much about the album because you know how the Internet world is, so I’ll just say this: We have a direction, we’re sticking to that direction and we feel really very happy writing in these terms that we’ve laid out for ourselves.” He went on to add, “The album is coming along very nicely. We’re excited to get in the studio. We have about six songs that I’m really happy with right now, and we’re continuing to write every single day.” The band showed signs of their continuance recently with the release of the new track ‘ Carry On ,’ which was tied to the ‘Call of Duty: Black Ops II’ video game. As for the new disc, the current estimate is to expect a new Avenged Sevenfold release by June or July of next year.
