Smashing Pumpkins Frontman Billy Corgan Relates to Wrestling Villain Rowdy Roddy Piper

Jason Kempin, Getty Images While Smashing Pumpkins remain Billy Corgan ‘s primary passion, the frontman has definitely made some room in his life over the last couple of years to explore his love of professional wrestling . The rocker says he’s always responded to the wrestling archetypes, and feels a kinship with some of the wrestling villains like Rowdy Roddy Piper. Corgan tells Spinner , “It’s all the shades that exist in [wrestling] that involve good and evil. There is an axiom in wrestling that says, to the effect, ‘Evil must always believe it is right.’ So when Roddy Piper would do something messed up, he was sort of sticking to a morality code in wrestling. And what makes great heels are the guys that often times the fans won’t embrace because he is not a start, yet he probably has the talent of the star, so they have a sense of justification. That’s part of the magic of wrestling for me.” The frontman says that much like Piper, he’s played “the heel” in public because he feels it’s his role. “I’m probably a guy that has a world-class gift, but often I get treated sometimes like someone that just wandered into a grocery store and just happened to be standing there when the light bulb went on,” says Corgan. “I do get kind of pissy by being underappreciated and so at times I kind of go ‘Piper.’ I play the heel to draw attention to myself and most importantly to let people know I think I do belong in a room with everyone else.” Corgan adds that he’s not satisfied with resting on what his musical talent has provided to date. He concludes, “I still have something to say and I think I have a better track record than most people you are listening to today.” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/smashing-pumpkins-billy-corgan-wrestling-themed-ad-furniture-store/” title=”Next: Billy Corgan Stars in Wrestling-Themed Ad” align=”center”]

Puddle of Mudd Frontman Wes Scantlin’s Ex-Wife Claims He Stole Her Car

Frank Micelotta, Getty Images Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin may have a little more legal trouble on the horizon. The musician’s ex-wife claims that Scantlin stole her car this past week. According to TMZ , Jessica Scantlin claims she woke up Monday morning (Feb. 18) to discover that her Honda Pilot had been taken from her home. Jessica stated that she texted Scantlin’s manager and demanded the return of the car. The manager texted back the location of the vehicle several hours later, but also stated, “Wes didn’t take your car.” After the vehicle was returned, police impounded the car to test for prints. Even though the results have yet to be revealed, Jessica stated she was “100 percent sure it’s Wes” because the windows weren’t broken and it’s likely he had a spare key. Jessica retained the vehicle as part of their divorce settlement. It was allegedly returned with bumper damage and missing a side view mirror. In addition, she claimed to have received threatening texts from Scantlin, which her lawyer used to file a request to have the vocalist held in contempt of court. The couple officially divorced last summer, with the frontman signing the divorce papers with two smiley faces. Kid Rock Presents Wounded Warrior With New Michigan Home

Rick Diamond, Getty Images Kid Rock ‘s generosity knows no bounds, especially when it comes to his hometown of Detroit and by extension his home state of Michigan. The rocker’s good will was on display again recently when he teamed with Pulte Homes and Operation Finally Home to have a new home built for a returning “wounded warrior” and his family. MLive.com reports that Sgt. Davin Dumar, an Army vet who lost his left leg and injured his arm after an improvised explosive device went off, first learned that his family was in the running for a new home last fall. According to a CNN report (seen below), Dumar and his wife were one of a handful of couples under consideration for the home, having undergone a series of interviews to be chosen. The couple was on their way to a model home, presumably for one final interview, when they were greeted by Rock and representatives from Pulte Homes and Operation Finally Home who were there to share the news that they had been selected and to show them the designs of their new home. Rock stated, “My heart is pumping just to be part of it. Just to work with Dan [from Operation Finally Home] to make it happen for someone like Sgt. Dumar here, so deserving.” For his part, Dumar shared his shock at the events of the day, adding, “I’m completely surprised. I certainly didn’t think I’d be having a cigar with Kid Rock today.” MLive reports that after construction started late last year, the couple recently moved into their Macomb Township home. Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready Hoping for New Album ‘This Year, For Sure’

Jeff Gross, Getty Images While Pearl Jam have been taking their time with new music, it appears as though the immediacy of generating new music is starting to ramp up for the band. Guitarist Mike McCready tells Rolling Stone that the group hopes to have their next album out “this year, for sure.” Speaking about the disc’s current status, he told the magazine, “We’re working on demos right now and we’re going to be recording soon. What everybody’s been saying is ‘ halfway done .’ I think that’s true — we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie [Vedder] brings in, so we’ll weed through those too.” McCready’s bandmate, Stone Gossard, recently suggested a “ nine-to-twelve month ” wait until a new album would be ready. The guitarist says he’s reluctant to discuss the album’s direction yet, adding, “What I can say won’t make any sense until you hear it.” However, he did offer, “I would say as a cliché answer, it’s kind of a logical extension of what ‘Backspacer’ was. But I think there’s a little more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.” The band met with producer Brendan O’Brien earlier this year and will resume work with their longtime knob-turner in the coming months. In the downtime though, McCready is free to pursue other passions. The guitarist is traveling to New Orleans to play ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ and run a half-marathon in support of former Saints player Steve Gleason, who is battling ALS.
