Trent Reznor Reboots Nine Inch Nails With Members of Jane’s Addiction, King Crimson + More

Mary Ouellette, SheWillShootYou.com Trent Reznor has just unveiled some drop-to-your-knees-and-praise-the-lord-type of exciting news. He has confirmed that Nine Inch Nails  are officially rebooted with a fresh, all-star lineup, blending previous NIN collaborators along with new members plucked from celebrated acts such as Jane’s Addiction , King Crimson and Puscifer . And as if that wasn’t cool enough, Nine Inch Nails are also set to embark on a U.S. tour beginning this summer. The new Nine Inch Nails collective is a prominent one, with seasoned NIN members Alessandro Cortini (keyboards / synth / guitar / bass) and Ilan Rubin (drums) continuing their legacies with Reznor’s brilliant industrial act. In addition to the trio, Nine Inch Nails have welcomed former Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, King Crimson multi-instrumentalist Adrian Belew and Puscifer / Telefon Tel Aviv musician Josh Eustis into the group. In a note from Trent Reznor posted on Pitchfork , the sonic brainiac explained the newly revamped version of Nine Inch Nails: Nine Inch Nails are touring this year. I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked – which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows. The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014. Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon. TR Prior to all the Nine Inch Nails awesomeness, Trent Reznor’s side project with wife Mariqueen Maandig , Rob Sheridan and Atticus Ross –  How to Destroy Angels  – will release their debut full-length album, ‘Welcome Oblivion’ on March 5. That outfit has also scheduled a number of North American dates for 2013. Jane’s Addiction Guitarist Dave Navarro Gets Naked for New PETA Campaign

PETA Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro has long been an activist for animal rights, and now the guitarist is proving it in his latest campaign for PETA. In a spot geared towards exposing the cruelty of animals led by the cosmetic industry, the rocker bares all in a squeamish series of photos. Throughout the photo series, Navarro can be seen simulating the torture animals endure at the hands of humans in the quest for perfecting cosmetics and household cleaners. Images of Navarro, like the one seen above, bleeding from the eye with patches of flesh ripped off and bleeding, accompany the message PETA is promoting, ‘Animal Testing Kills: Choose Cruelty-Free.’ The campaign not only calls out the heinous testing methods but helps promote cruelty free testing throughout the industry. In the behind the scenes clip below posted by PETA, Navarro talks about his first exposure to cruelty free makeup and how he learned about the inhumane practices, leading to his quest to become an advocate for the animals. “They’re not taking a bunny rabbit and putting mascara on it. They’re injecting a chemical directly into its eye to see what kind of adverse reaction happens to it,” Navarro explained in the interview. “In many cases, parts of their body are ripped open. They’re all alive, and they’re all aware. It’s torture for the animal, it’s terrifying and painful and probably one of the cruelest things done in the name of vanity.” This doesn’t mark the first time that Navarro has geared down for PETA though and if we were betting folk, probably not the last. He also participated in PETA’s ‘ Ink, Not Mink ‘ campaign, protesting the fur industry. Watch the clip below to see Navarro behind the scenes at his gory photo shoot and to learn more about cruelty-free animal testing, but be warned, it’s not for the faint at heart, as it contains some graphic images of animals. Perry Farrell: 60-Song Creative Burst Is for ‘Immersive Theater’ Project

Kevin Winter, Getty Images Jane’s Addiction ‘s Perry Farrell recently spent some time recovering from surgery enjoying a creative burst that resulted in some 60 tracks being worked through, but the singer says that the material was not necessarily all for Jane’s Addiction. Farrell tells GrungeReport.net , “There’s over 60 [songs] lyrically written and then there’s probably 38 recorded, but they were not Jane’s Addiction, they were mine, for the next project.” The vocalist went on to add, “The next project’s going to be a really interesting affair, never before done in history. It’s going to be immersive theater, like a musical or play. I’m going to have Jane’s writing one record and then I’ve written another one that’s electronic. It’s theater, and in some cases, the scene takes place out in a place like Phuket or a region like that in a bar or a club, so you’d be listening to dance music.” The vocalist says he’s already written the first, dance-related portion, but the second half is still incomplete. He added, “I have many song melodies, but they haven’t been recorded or worked with Jane’s Addiction yet.” Farrell also spoke about a proposed Porno for Pyros reunion and explained that his current project has cooled him on the idea for the time being. He explains, “I love all the guys in Porno and I’ll always want to do it, but I’ve gotten so hot with this new project, now that it’s in the works and moving forward, that … something really great came up. It’s sort of like you were with a girl or with a guy, and then you guys broke apart, and you started getting in contact with each other, like, ‘Yeah, we should see each other again sometime,’ and then all of a sudden this amazing person comes into your life.” For more of the singer’s thoughts, including working with Trent Reznor , the latest on Lollapalooza and more, check out the full GrungeReport.net interview here . Slash Confirms Participation in Upcoming ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ Video Game

Jo Hale, Getty Pictures Slash has been keeping busy of late while focusing his energies on another offshoot of his music career. The guitar great confirmed his participation in the upcoming ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ video game in a new Twitter posting . Video games like ‘Rock Band’ and ‘Guitar Hero’ were great in both drawing attention to a wide variety of bands and in some cases providing an entry point for some beginners to explore their interest in playing an instrument. However, one common bone of contention amongst those who play music for a living was that these games were not quite what the real experience was like. That’s where ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ comes in. The game boasts “industry standard tablature animated for an authentic experience.” Between one and four players can take part at the same time, playing along to the music as it would typically be read by musicians as they learned themselves. Slash says in his posting, “Hands down, best guitar game.” In addition, musicians like Slash, Zakk Wylde and bass great Bootsy Collins have filmed their own tutorials within the game teaching the players how to play certain tracks. But don’t worry about keeping up with these real life master musicians, as the game supports all skill levels — from the first-time player to professional musicians. The game features 55 songs on the disc from acts like Rush , Pantera , Pearl Jam , Jane’s Addiction and more and much like some of the guitar video game predecessors, there is a career mode where you advance to different challenges the better you perform. The ‘Band Fuse: Rock Legends’ video game is expected for Xbox and PlayStation 3 this coming spring. You can watch a trailer for the game below. Perry Farrell Writes 60 Songs for Potential Inclusion on Next Jane’s Addiction Album

Jason Merritt, Getty Images Being sidelined after surgery isn’t exactly a pleasant experience, but Perry Farrell has made the most of it by enjoying a creative burst that has resulted in as much as 60 potential new songs for the next Jane’s Addiction  album. He tells Rolling Stone , “I haven’t written this much or been this prolific since I started when I was in my 20s. It’s been coming out fantastic. I’m super excited. Everything will really start to jell and come together probably this time next year.” Farrell says that he enjoyed working on the band’s latest album, ‘The Great Escape Artist,’ and admitted that some of the themes of that record may carry over to the new material. He explains, however, that “it’s not going to be [a continuation of] ‘The Great Escape Artist.’ I had thought that it would be a great idea. However, I just came up with this other twist to doing the next record. At this point, I want to start fresh with a fresh angle.” Farrell says that he plans to begin mapping out the band’s follow-up by as early as January.
