How to Destroy Angels Unveil ‘Welcome Oblivion’ Artwork, Track Listing + ‘How Long?’ Video

Columbia / Null Corporation How to Destroy Angels have a wealth of new details concerning their first full-length album today. While we already knew that the album from Trent Reznor ‘s band would be titled ‘ Welcome Oblivion ‘ and would be arriving on March 5, the group has now revealed the artwork (seen at left) and a full track listing for the new disc. Included in the new album are several tracks from the band’s recent EP, ‘ An Omen ,’ including the past singles ‘ Keep It Together ,’ ‘ Ice Age ‘ and ‘The Loop Closes.’ The EP’s ‘On the Wing’ also makes an appearance on the album, as well. How to Destroy Angels intend on releasing the disc in both CD and vinyl formats, with the latter including the bonus cuts ‘The Province of Fear’ and ‘Unintended Consequences.’ In addition, How to Destroy Angels have unveiled ‘How Long?’ as their latest single. The Mariqueen Maandig-led track is more of a moody, contemplative cut from the point of view of someone trying to move beyond a troubled past without unveiling themselves to others. The group also revealed a futuristic video for the track directed by Shynola. In the clip, a young man appears left to fend for himself amidst a treacherous and dark landscape until he happens upon another man just trying to survive as well. The video may be seen below. How to Destroy Angels To Release Debut Album ‘Welcome Oblivion’ in March

Facebook: How to Destroy Angels After teasing fans in recent years with a pair of EPs,  How to Destroy Angels have revealed their plans for their first full-length album. The group, featuring Nine Inch Nails mastermind Trent Reznor , revealed in a posting at their website that the new disc, titled ‘Welcome Oblivion,’ is expected on March 5. While that was all that was revealed about the long-anticipated album, the group has dug a little deeper into 2012′s ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, with a trippy new video for the track ‘The Loop Closes.’ Just as the song is filled with all sorts of digital blips and bleeps, the accompanying video offers something visually similar, with quick cutting and often blurred or mangled images of animals, natural disasters, eyeballs, human limbs and even the shadowy faces of the band’s members. The video can be seen below. The clip follows the band’s more story-driven video for ‘ Ice Age ,’ which arrived last fall. That promo found the band members in a remote cabin, with singer Mariqueen Maandig looking out the window as the climate began to shift into something similar to the song’s title. Speaking about How to Destroy Angels last year, Trent Reznor explained, “We’ve just been chipping away at this thing, and it’s been a nice pressure release valve really to have something to dump this energy into that doesn’t fit the other containers. It’s been fun.” Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘The Loop Closes’ Video [button href=”http://loudwire.com/trent-reznor-how-to-destroy-angels-new-single-keep-it-together/” title=”Next: Watch How to Destroy Angels’ ‘Keep It Together’ Video” align=”center”]

How to Destroy Angels Unleash ‘Ice Age’ Video

Facebook: How To Destroy Angels How to Destroy Angels are off and running with their new ‘ An Omen ‘ EP, and they’ve now unleashed a video for the standout track ‘Ice Age.’ The clip really is more of a short film, clocking in at just over seven minutes with the group isolated in a log cabin. John Hillcoat, director of such films as ‘The Road’ and ‘Lawless,’ shot the promo for the band, which finds the members primarily shot in dark profiles as singer Mariqueen Maandig sings longingly into the distance while looking outside of the cabin’s window. Meanwhile, Trent Reznor , Atticus Ross, and Rob Sheridan give the song a rustic feel with a beat up piano, lap steel guitar, and a board filled with distortion effects providing the background. As Maandig continues looking out the window we eventually see outside as the waves crash in from the ocean, but a series of visual effects begin to turn things dark, shadowy and blurry with the cold starting to set in. ‘An Omen’ has provided a re-introduction for the group, who added Sheridan to the lineup since their first EP back in 2010. The band’s first full-length record is expected next year. How to Destroy Angels Stream ‘An Omen’ EP Ahead of Release

Columbia Records Trent Reznor fans were recently treated to ‘ Keep It Together ,’ the lead song from the ‘ An Omen ‘ EP from his How to Destroy Angels  outfit. Now the full six-song disc has found its way online for fans to check out. Aside from the moody digitalism of ‘Keep It Together,’ the set includes such new standouts as the plucky and somewhat folky ‘Ice Age,’ Reznor’s wife Mariqueen Maandig’s melodically mesmerizing showcase ‘On the Wing,’ and the vintage groove of ‘The Loop’ among others. ‘An Omen’ is serving at the precursor to a full-length disc that will follow. Though a title and release date for the album has not been announced, it is expected within the next year. The new EP drops in stores onTuesday (Nov. 13). Reznor recently revealed that How to Destroy Angels signed to a major label because of what it could offer them going forward, as he views the group reaching a different audience than just those who know him for Nine Inch Nails and needing a way to get new listeners. He  explained , “The main reason I do what I do is I want to do something that matters. I want to be able to create art that reaches the maximum amount of people on my terms … That was a key component … Because it came down to us — us being the band now — sitting around and identifying what our goals were. And the top priority wasn’t to make money. It was to try to reach the most amount of people, and try to reach the most amount of people effectively, that doesn’t feel like it’s coming completely from my backyard. Because I don’t want this project, ultimately, to just be dismissed as a ‘side project’ or … (loud sigh) … a ‘patronizing affair with Trent and his wife.’ Sounds terrible, you know?” In other Trent Reznor news, the singer just revealed he’s begun working on Nine Inch Nails music and he’s also set to appear on the ‘ Call of Duty: Black Ops II ‘ soundtrack that arrives later this month. Trent Reznor Advises Young Acts on Making It in the Music Industry

Sean Gardner, Getty Images It’s a whole new world out there for young artists looking to catch a break and established artists trying to maintain their momentum, but Trent Reznor says the key to approaching the current music business model is somewhat the same for all musicians. He tells Techdirt.com , “My advice today, to established acts and new-coming acts, is the same advice I’d give to myself: pause for a minute, and really think about ‘What is your goal? Where do you see yourself?’” He adds, “As a 22-year-old kid in Cleveland, it seemed to me that just playing out in bars, hoping someone noticed your band, and then offered you a record contract, while that’s possible, I didn’t know anybody, and didn’t know anybody who knew anybody that that had ever happened to. The strategy, then, was let’s work on getting a band, and something that means something, music that matters, music that I feel proud of, and a vibe and name and ‘brand’ of this thing, and then try to reach maybe some small labels that had music in the same vein of what I liked.” But in today’s music scene, there are many more options for getting your music to listeners, and Reznor says it’s more important than ever to define what your ultimate goal is. He explains, “If I were that person [starting out] today, there’s a hell of a lot of things that didn’t exist then, that exist now — like YouTube, like the ability to self-publish, like the ability to reach everyone in the world from your bedroom if they’re interested. I’d focus my efforts on what seems like a logical way to do that [and] that maintains integrity. If my goal is to compete with Rihanna on the pop charts, I’d think that requires going through a major label system with a powerful manager.” For Reznor, he says the decision to revisit the major label strategy for his latest project How to Destroy Angels fit a particular goal, one that differs from what he has to do with Nine Inch Nails . He says he was worried that only Nine Inch Nails fans would follow his new project and that it might not fit what they were looking for, so a label provides him the opportunity to reach more people. He explains, “The main reason I do what I do is I want to do something that matters. Because I don’t want this project, ultimately, to just be dismissed as a ‘side project’ or … (loud sigh) … a ‘patronizing affair with Trent and his wife.’ Sounds terrible, you know?” [button href=”http://loudwire.com/best-nine-inch-nails-songs/” title=”Next: 10 Best Nine Inch Nails Songs” align=”center”]

Trent Reznor Joins Forces With Beats by Dre for ‘A Number of Very Interesting Projects’

Sean Gardner / Christopher Polk, Getty Images Trent Reznor continues to expand his horizons, and he’s now teaming up with hip-hop icon Dr. Dre to contribute to the latter’s Beats by Dre company. The Nine Inch Nails  mastermind revealed in a new posting that he’s joined forces with the headphone maker on several projects that will begin to surface in 2013. During a recent press event, the company announced that Reznor has taken on a consulting role, joining with rap icon Dr. Dre, music mogul Jimmy Iovine and Beats by Dre president Luke Wood in defining the future products to come. According to the Hollywood Reporter , Iovine, Dre and Wood made the announcement while rolling out new products at a press event in New York City. As for his involvement with the company, Reznor played coy for the time being, confirming that while he was taking part in the product development, there was nothing he could share as of yet. In a Facebook post, he wrote: Some of you may have read that I have begun working with Beats by Dre. For the past year I have indeed been involved with Dre, Jimmy Iovine, Luke Wood, and the rest of the team on a number of very interesting projects that will start to emerge next year. I have been wanting to experiment and focus my energy and creativity in some different directions, and Beats has afforded me that very opportunity. The process has been challenging and fascinating and as much as I’d like to tell you about the things we’ve dreamed up … I just can’t. ?Not yet …? (I can tell you it’s probably not what you’re expecting!) The speculation can begin on how Reznor’s partnership will play into his musical output. In the meantime, he is set to release a new EP from his band How to Destroy Angels  later this year, and he also confirmed earlier this year that he’s started work on new Nine Inch Nails music , as well.
